What will it take for our government to identify and prevent Muslim extremist threats BEFORE they escalate to murdering innocent people? Should there be a manual on how to spot a Muslim terrorist before he or she goes on a murderous rampage, like Maj. Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood, or sets off a bomb in a government building? Or worse?

A controversial government report was written and distributed by the Department of Homeland Security last April, addressing its perception of grave dangers to our country. Its warped perception.

What many Americans don’t know is that the words “Muslim” or “Islam” or “jihadist” or “jihad” do not appear anywhere in the DHS document as potential or proven terrorists or terrorist groups to be watchful of.

The focus was narrowly and deliberately confined to “rightwing terrorists.”

DHS report: “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”, published April 7, 2009 (PDF format).

This Homeland Security document is worthless and discriminatory. The title needs to be changed to reflect true threats: remove the term “rightwing” or to add “leftwing and Muslim extremists”. Pretending that terrorist threats exist only or predominantly from conservative groups is factually wrong. The number of US terrorist attacks committed by rightwingers vs. the significantly more numerous US terrorist attacks by Muslim extremists proves that. Omission of “leftwing” suggests that leftwing ideologies are never at odds with the American federal government, which was not true during the eight years of the Bush administration.

The well-researched post P.C. in the U.S.A.: A deadly, bipartisan infection by Michelle Malkin addresses a growing number of terrorists who had been identified and/or held in custody by law enforcement, then were released. Sadly, these animals ALL ended up killing innocent people. The DHS omission of so many proven Muslim terrorist attacks on American soil is grievous, naive, and dangerous.

This is guaranteed to be a circus.

Team Obama has officially given all terrorist killers US citizenship rights regardless of where they were captured.

Terrorist groups/potential threats identified in DHS document: Military vets (p. 8), Christians (p. 4), anti-abortionists (p. 2), those against illegal immigration (p. 2), and anyone who disagrees with the federal government (pp. 3, 4). Middle Eastern/other minority dangers or known radical terrorist groups, like Taliban or al Quaeda, are omitted as threats to America. I know with absolute certainty they’re not in there… I’ve carefully combed the document several times.

The DHS targeting of military veterans, branding them all potential terrorists, is disgusting, irresponsible, and unsubstantiated. The evidence to support such a claim is based on one terrorist’s attack 14 years ago, from one circumstantial element of his background. No legitimate studies, data, or investigations are cited to support such a claim. But the claim, however erroneous, is still in a government document on how law enforcement can safetyguard or nation.

Irish Catholic, ex-military, American-born terrorist Timothy McVeigh, one of the vile murderers responsible for and executed for the tragic 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, is the only person spotlighted by name in the DHS document (see page 7). It would appear that McVeigh was cited because he was white, American-born, former military, and raised in a Catholic home. No other religion besides Christianity is mentioned in the document, no other example or psychological corroboration for this so-called “rampaging vets syndrome” is offered. However, there exists a possibility that McVeigh’s bombing on the Murrah building may have been backed by Iraqi Muslims, and that neither his childhood religion nor his ex-military background had anything to do with the bombing:

Whatever you do, don’t call Jayna Davis the darling of the right wing. A former Oklahoma City television reporter, Davis for the last seven years has been amassing a 2,000-page dossier which, she says, shows that a Middle Eastern terrorist cell made up of former Iraqi soldiers helped Timothy McVeigh plot the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

The theory that Middle Eastern terror played a role in the Oklahoma City bombing is not a new one. In the immediate aftermath of the Murrah Building explosion, terrorism expert Steven Emerson went on television and suggested Islamic terrorists may have been responsible. Ostracized when proven wrong, Emerson admits his mistake in his recent book, “American Jihad,” and stresses, “I have refused to support the conspiracy theorists who insist that McVeigh himself was actually involved with Muslim groups.”

That’s exactly what Davis insists: That McVeigh worked alongside Middle Eastern terrorists in plotting the Murrah Building attack and that law enforcement has refused to investigate the connection. The theory is anchored in the government’s own prosecution and the elusive “John Doe 2″ figure who has baffled Oklahoma City experts for years.

From page 2: — (U//LES) Threats from white supremacist and violent antigovernment groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts. Nevertheless, the consequences of a prolonged economic downturn—including real estate foreclosures, unemployment, and an inability to obtain credit—could create a fertile recruiting environment for rightwing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past.

From page 2 : — (U//LES) Rightwing extremists have capitalized on the election of the first African American president, and are focusing their efforts to recruit new members, mobilize existing supporters, and broaden their scope and appeal through propaganda, but they have not yet turned to attack planning.

From page 2 footnote: * (U) Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

Based on the DHS’s flawed, paint-it-with-a-sloppy-leftwing-broad-brush definition provided in the document, not only are Hasan and others like him rightwing extremists, so could be soccer moms from Texas attending tea party protests, military veterans coming home from Afghanistan or Iraq, marchers on Washington or bloggers who are demanding that our government stop socializing the country and return to the Constitution, a priest in California who is pro-life.

Additionally, drawing conclusions from the many press conferences made by Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and other Democrat leaders, “terrorists” can be anyone who does not agree with the Obama administration. Pelosi has denounced those who opposed socialized health care as “un-American,” but our president has avoided using the word “terrorism” to describe Hasan’s massacre at Fort Hood.

This is a short-sighted, dangerous political game of words. Too much is at stake, but Team Obama has demonstrated that it would rather toy around with liberal euphemisms than to take REAL security measures. If radicals like Van Jones can work in the White House, we have no guarantee that another radical like Hasan won’t be murdering our troops.

Whatever our government needs to do to better prevent homegrown terrorist attacks on our military bases, it needs to do so QUICKLY. Fearing of “offending” radical Muslims is no way to protect the American public nor protect our stateside military bases. Our national security is being compromised. Americans are alarmed that this administration is more concerned about appeasing radical Muslim leaders and followers rather than putting all their efforts into making America safer.

With the onslaught of warnings that have been revealed about Maj. Hasan, this medical presentation he conducted should have prompted action.

From Washington Post, Fort Hood suspect warned of threats within the ranks:

As a senior-year psychiatric resident at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Maj. Nidal M. Hasan was supposed to make a presentation on a medical topic of his choosing as a culminating exercise of the residency program.

Instead, in late June 2007, he stood before his supervisors and about 25 other mental health staff members and lectured on Islam, suicide bombers and threats the military could encounter from Muslims conflicted about fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, both Muslim countries, according to a copy of the presentation obtained by The Washington Post.

“It’s getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims,” he said in the presentation.

“It was really strange,” said one staff member who attended the presentation and requested anonymity because of the investigation of Hasan. “The senior doctors looked really upset” at the end. These medical presentations occurred each Wednesday afternoon, and other students had lectured on new medications and treatment of specific mental illnesses.

The title of Hasan’s power-point presentation was “The Koranic World View As It Relates to Muslims in the U.S. Military.” It consisted of 50 slides. In one slide, Hasan described the presentation’s objectives as identifying “what the Koran inculcates in the minds of Muslims and the potential implications this may have for the U.S. military.”

He also sought to “Describe the nature of the religious conflicts that Muslims may have” who serve in the U.S. military and to convince the Army that it should identify these individuals.

Other slides delved into the history of Islam, its tenets, statistics about the number of Muslims in the military, and explanations of “offensive jihad,” or holy war…

…Under a slide titled “Comments,” he wrote: “If Muslim groups can convince Muslims that they are fighting for God against injustices of the ‘infidels’; ie: enemies of Islam, then Muslims can become a potent adversary ie: suicide bombing, etc.” [sic]

The last bullet point on that page reads simply: “We love death more then (sic) you love life!”

Under the “Conclusions” page, Hasan wrote that “Fighting to establish an Islamic State to please God, even by force, is condoned by the Islam,” and that “Muslim Soldiers should not serve in any capacity that renders them at risk to hurting/killing believers unjustly — will vary!”

The final page, labeled “Recommendation,” contained only one suggestion:

“Department of Defense should allow Muslims (sic) Soldiers the option of being released as ‘Conscientious objectors’ to increase troop morale and decrease adverse events.”

Not only did Hasan deviate from the specific mission and goal of the medical lectures, he “strayed” into anti-government and Muslim-extremist territories. And that’s where action should have taken place, but did not.

If Hasan had been a Christian, denouncing non-Christians and proclaiming God’s displeasure at the breaking of the Ten Commandments during his medical presentation, you know sure as shootin’ that swift disciplinary actions would have been taken to determine if he was a threat. As it should be for ANY threat.

The whitewashing of Hasan’s extremist behavior continues in the media.

Even while bringing up Hasan’s chilling Power Point presentation, the [New York] Times failed to report an item from Hasan’s “scholarly explanation” that ABC News and the Washington Post did. As described by the Washington Post’s Dana Priest:
