Senate’s Health Care Bill Larger Than House Bill: Whopping 2,074 Pages… Also, Santas Want Swine Flu Vaccines (video)

Another monstrosity of a government-run health bill… this one is the long-awaited one from the Senate.
From Politico: Senate bill weighs in at 2,074 pages:
In the Battle of the Health Bills, the Senate wins out, bulk-wise – weighing in at 2,074 pages.
The House health reform bill was a mere 1,990 pages when introduced.
That means the Senate bill — like the one in the House — runs more pages than War and Peace, and has nearly five times as many words as the Torah.
The table of contents alone is 14 pages.
“Read the bill!” was a rallying cry of some health reform opponents over the summer. And if Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) gets his way, senators will get a chance to hear every word of it. He’s threatening to the read the legislation from start to finish, which by some estimates could take as long as 48 hours.

Yes, these are simply guidelines; they are not yet part of any legislative proposal. The panel said it did not consider costs in the analysis.
On their face, they don’t stop any woman who wants a mammogram from getting one at any age.
But the panel’s guidelines can help health insurance companies position themselves down the road for this high anxiety-inducing outcome – the denial of coverage for routine mammograms for women between the ages of 40 and 49.
That, in turn, creates a two-tier health care system: Those who can afford to pay for screening on their own, and those who can’t. Those who can’t afford it are left to ponder the somber words of Dr. Daniel Kopans, a radiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.
Kopans told The Globe that the panel’s recommendations “will condemn women ages 40 to 49 to unnecessary deaths from breast cancer.’’ Maybe Sarah Palin’s “death panel’’ warning isn’t hyperbole after all.

The political stakes enormous, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid launched long-awaited health care legislation Wednesday estimated to extend coverage to 94 percent of eligible Americans at a cost of $849 billion.
Initial maneuvering on the Senate floor was expected later in the week on the measure, bitterly opposed by Republicans eager to deny President Obama a victory on his top domestic priority.
Officials have said the measure would require most Americans to carry health insurance and large companies to provide coverage to their workers, as well as ban insurance company practices such as denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions.

Among the bigger items are a tax on medical devices ($19 billion), a tax on insurance providers ($60 billion.) Supporters of the legislation can pretend these taxes will be paid by the apparently-now-evil medical device companies and the already-known-as-evil insurance companies. Of course these taxes will simply be passed onto consumers, making medical devices and insurance a bit more expensive than it otherwise would have been.
Two other large tax hikes fall directly on citizens. The first would limit the amount of medical expenses people can deduct from their taxes, raising just over $15 billion. Far bigger is an increase in the Medicare payroll tax by over $50 billion.
Let’s not forget that taxes are already slatted to go up after next year by several hundred billion dollars. These plans may not be the best way to “jump start” the economy.

If this health care bill passes the senate, the projected deficit in 2019 will be 24 Trillion $.
We can’t afford the 12 Trillion deficit we have now.
No one can predict how badly this bill will affect the nation’s economy.
Obviously the taxes will increase to support it.
Obviously the premiums will go up to anybody that has health insurance.
The administration costs for the government program will eliminate any “savings” the government program promotes.
Oh wait, jobs! HA!
But Wait, there’s more !
Next is the Cap and Trade Bill that they will run through the house and the senate in an attempt to run it down our throats, along with “free choice”.
Obama virtually owes his election to Acorn and SEIU.
I hope the American people are getting an education.
