War on Christmas: Best Buy Flunks for Its “Happy Eid al-Adha,” Bans “Merry Christmas” in After-Thanksgiving Christmas Ads
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on November 29, 2009

It happens every year… it’s retailers’ reliable “War on Christmas.”
Too many retailers are more than happy to enjoy the Christmas bonanza… big bucks flowing with all that Yuletide cha-ching Christmas gift shopping and Christmas gift-giving and Christmas cards and Christmas dinners with all the trimmings. But many won’t permit use of the word “Christmas” in their ads or let their cashiers say “Merry Christmas,” claiming it will offend non-Christians.
Good grief, most Christians aren’t offended by seeing or being greeted by “Happy Hanukkah” or any other religious greeting… who, besides a few screeching radical atheists, are claiming to be “offended” if they see or hear the words “Merry Christmas”?
Offending or marginalizing Christians during their most holy, joyous, and celebrated holiday of the year is acceptable. Of course it is.
From Frugal Café last year, Naughty or Nice? Frugal Christmas Shoppers Need to Know Which Stores Are Still Banning the Mention of Christmas:
Hey, you Christians with deep pockets, we want your money, we want your patronage, but we don’t want to show respect for your most holy and beloved holidays for fear that a few angry atheists will be offended. But please, please, please, spend your money with us during this joyous-and-profitable-but-not-to-be-named holiday season so we can avoid filing for bankruptcy.
Best Buy is the dubious winner of this week’s “Christmas Marginalizer” award. “Merry Christmas” is off limits, but not the Muslim holiday greeting “Happy Eid al-Adha,” a revered day for goat-throat slitting. Hypocritical Christmas deniers… how many goats did you sell for Eid al-Adha this week? Big-screen TVs and digital cameras advertised instead of goats?
Here’s a page from Best Buy’s ads for Christmas shoppers for the Thanksgiving “Black Friday” shopping weekend. And notice that “Happy Thanksgiving” was omitted as well.

If this marginalizing of Christmas offends you, let the store manager and/or store headquarters know. And don't shop there for Christmas gifts... or any other time of the year, if you're so inclined.
If you’re outraged or upset, let the store manager know (email, fax, phone call) how you feel about this. Take it a step further and BOYCOTT the store. Let Best Buy know you will be boycotting. Do this with other retailers as well. If enough Christians cease shopping during the Christmas season at stores that won’t acknowledge Christmas (or sell “holiday trees” or other such non-Christmas nonsense), retailers will either wise up or go belly-up. Doesn’t matter to me. I just refuse to give my money to any retailer who is intolerant of my religion, except when it comes to Christmas shopping.
With this Obama economic recession and record unemployment, business-savvy retailers would be/should be embracing Christmas, as it is the one and only holiday that pulls companies out of the red and into Profit Land.
Stop this bogus liberal diversity crap that excludes tolerance of Christianity. Religious freedom is a Constitutional right in America, but over the past few decades, the one holiday that is allowed to be bashed or marginalized is Christmas. Live and let live… enjoy what ever holiday you choose to enjoy, whatever religion you choose to honor and follow. But I expect similar courtesy and respect as a Christian. The United States is a Christian nation (75 – 80 percent); our Constitution was based on Christian-Judeo principles. Christmas shopping is a result of Christmas. So, saying “Merry Christmas” or mentioning Christmas in Christmas ads or having a Christmas display should not be the hot-potato political issue it has become.
Wishing Christmas shoppers “Happy Eid al-Adha” throws the whole “we don’t want to single out one religion” political-correctness nonsense down the dumper. I have no problem with including the Muslim greeting. I AM offended by the deliberate omission of Christmas from a blatantly obvious Christmas ad.
From a current Rasmussen poll, most Americans prefer ‘Merry Christmas’ to ‘Happy Holidays’:
Amidst all the holiday shopping craziness, most Americans at this time of year want to see holiday signs that wish them a “Merry Christmas.”
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 72% of adults prefer “Merry Christmas,” while 22% like “Happy Holidays” instead.
Older Americans favor “Merry Christmas” more than younger adults.
From Riehl World View, Best Buy Re-Discovers Christmas, Along With Eid-al-Adha:
While the media and blogs are picking up on a Best Buy flier mentioning Muslim holiday, Eid-al-Adha, the claim that they are also bringing back Christmas may be getting lost in the news. I believe Best Buy dropped the word “Christmas” from its marketing some time ago.
Call me old fashion, which is to say I might wish things were as they used to be. But arguing with the new policy assumes a different stance than saying, No Christmas, but muslim holidays are fine? More precisely, Best Buy seems to have bought into the whole inclusive deal. Make of that what you will.
From Denver FOX, KDVR.com: Best Buy criticized for Muslim holiday greeting:
Jose Aguilar, a truck driver from Ft. Lupton, Colorado was outraged when he saw the ad in his Sunday circular.
“It seems like we’re throwing God out the door, and we’re celebrating every other family’s culture, everyone else’s beliefs except our own,” he said.
Aguilar says he’ll never shop at Best Buy again, even if the chain includes “Merry Christmas” in future ads.
“No more, no more,” he says.
From Bare Naked Islam, BOYCOTT ‘BEST BUY’ – They wish MUSLIMS “Happy EID” but won’t wish Christians “Merry Christmas”:
Best Buy – the company that will not allow the words “Merry Christmas” in its advertising – has no problem wishing MUSLIMS a “Happy Eid al-Adha” – an important MUSLIM holiday.
Just what is Best Buy trying to tell us when they pay tribute to the same people who keep giving us terrorist attacks? Well, as the most notorious Muslim in Britain, ‘Christmas is evil’, Anjem Choudary, likes to say, “Whomever wishes someone a Merry Christmas exposes himself to the wrath and anger of Allah.” (I wonder if Best Buy has added Muslim prayer rooms and footbaths to their stores yet?)
From Patriotic Resistance, Boycott Best Buy and tell them why:
Christmas. Who needs it? Not Best Buy, that’s for sure. After all, Best Buy is loathe to use that hateful word in its advertising. It’s so “religious” and tinged with racism, America, and tradition. It makes Best Buy shudder to think of using that foul word, Christmas. But, advertising for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha? Heck, why not? What could be more welcoming and tolerant?
And so, Best Buy has issued a Thanksgiving sales flyer wishing all good multi-cultural, Muslim loving Americans a happy Eid al-Adha this year.
Don’t you feel your heart warming already? Isn’t your PC bone tingling with happiness? And aren’t you secretly gleeful that those rotten, evil, reactionary, hatemongering Christians are getting theirs… even if Christians do make up about 75 percent of the United States?
American Family Association Online has compiled a list of retailers that have banned “Christmas” from their retail ads, in-store promotions, or TV commercials — check it out.
