Sweet Deal for Congress! Will Work Only 8 Days in January, 9 Days in February 2010
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on December 3, 2009
Pardon me if I laugh out loud. And then, growl menacingly.
Poor “overworked,” “under-appreciated” members of Congress. I can think of 10.2 percent of Americans who are unemployed who would slap you silly for this travesty of barely working for two months. 17 days???
Actually, that unemployment percentage of 10.2 rises to over 17 percent when you include those who no longer receive unemployment benefits, but still can’t find jobs. I have no idea how many Americans are now underemployed. But your paychecks, paid for full-time “service to the people” work, will just keep rollin’ in… disgusting.
So, Mr. Hoyer and the rest of the House, take your tiny violins playing pity songs somewhere else… Americans aren’t commiserating with you. Should you tighten your belts as millions of us “unwashed masses” have had to do under the command of our spendthrift, jet-setting Dear Leader, maybe then you’ll regain our respect and trust.
Maybe.
From The Hill:
House to work 17 days in first two months of 2010, says Hoyer
The House will work a total of 17 days during January and February of next year, according to the 2010 legislative calendar released Wednesday by the Majority Leader’s office.
Finishing what many veteran Capitol Hill aides described as the busiest legislative year they can remember, the House now appears to be setting itself up for a significant downshift in 2010.
“The 111th Congress has confronted enormous national challenges and been incredibly productive during its first session,” Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said in releasing the 2010 House work schedule. “The House has passed major legislation on a range of critical issues, from strengthening our economy to improving healthcare, increasing access to college, and strengthening our national security.”
House leaders have already indicated that plans for a jobs bill, which they’ve pegged as their highest priority now that the fate of healthcare reform lies in the hands of the Senate, may have to wait until January.
But between Democratic and Republican retreats, House leaders have penciled in only eight working days for the entire month of January. That will be followed by a February composed of only nine full working days.
H/T to Patterico’s Pontifications:
Here’s the complete schedule that includes lots of holidays, 3-day and 4-day workweeks, and October thru December off except for the first week of October.
Can’t wait to see the Senate’s work schedule for the first two months in 2010. It will likely be similar.
How many taxpayer-funded vacations during January and February 2010 will the Obamas take on Air Force One? I’m guessing Hawaii will be one of the stops… they’ve overdone Europe. Australia is nice this time of year.
Elections are in November 2010… informed Americans are itching to vote these elitist, socialist clowns out.

If you add it up, they work, on average between 2/3rds and 3/4qtrs of the time they spend in Washington.
That’s maybe 9 months a year.
Your tax dollars enable them, to visit Washington parties.
Your tax dollars enable them to fly anywhere they want to for any reason.
Your tax dollars allow them to stand in front of you and tell you that you are stupid and you have no idea of what you are talking about.
Barney Frank told a constituent in a town hall meeting that talking to you is like taking to a coffee table.
Arrogance Anybody ?
