Yuletide Memories… Four Decades of Classic & Vintage Christmas TV Commercials (video)
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on December 20, 2009
A walk down Yuletide Memory Lane… here’s a collection of Christmas TV commercials spanning four decades. The first two are among my ultimate favorites, the rest are just for fun.
Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
Classic 1970’s Coca-Cola Hilltop Christmas Ad – I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing
Folgers Coffee Christmas Commercial – “Peter Comes Home for Christmas” (1985, original full-length ad)
Miller High Life – “Christmas Card” (Commercial, 1979)
Toys “R” Us Commercial – Christmas 1984 (with Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ Cartridges for ViewMaster)
Old Spice – “I Love the Smell of Daddy” (Christmas commercial, 1982)
1960s – Classic Norelco Shaver Christmas Ad – Norelco Santa
1980’s Nabisco Oreo Cookies Christmas Commercial
Verizon Christmas Commercial: Island of Misfit Toys (2009)
Huggies “The Nutcracker” – TV commercial (1990)
Jack in the Box Christmas Carolers (1978)
Hershey’s Kisses Christmas Commercial – Christmas Bells
Coors Christmas Commercial (1983)
Burger King Christmas Commercial – Toy Story Puppets (1995)
M&Ms Commercial – Christmas Faint (2006)
Coca-Cola – Classic “Holidays Are Coming,” Christmas Trucks (long version)
Clairol Christmas commercial with Santa (1979)
1980’s McDonalds “Star Wish” Christmas Commercial
1980’s 7-Up Christmas Commercial: The Feeling of Christmas
Pillsbury Christmas Ad (1992)
Gap Holiday Ad – “Mountains”
Nestlé Christmas Commercial with Farfle (1992)
Wendy’s Christmas Commercial with Dave Thomas (1990, Big Bacon Classic)

This final TV ad is for one of the most bizarre toys ever… this strange, rather gross toy is from the 1970s, and while the video isn’t of a Christmas commercial, it’s so horrible I felt compelled to include it (and no, this is NOT a spoof ad):

I enjoyed your post.
Dave Thomas IS the man you see in the commercials he made.
I met him once, and will always have a tremendous respect for his business acumen and personality.
I also loved the old Wendy’s commercials with Dave Thomas. He was such an inspiration… he was adopted as a child, and had an extremely strong work ethic. He worked his fanny off to realize his dream. They don’t make many like Dave anymore.
I’m glad you liked the post… I had to separate myself from politics today to get into the Christmas spirit. One day without Barack Obama is like a day with sunshine and butterflies.
Sunshine and butterflies.
Next year it will be cannons against the wall.
Gear up !!!

I just have to add my voice of praise for old Dave now gone. When I scrolled down and saw the Wendy’s advert, I actually got a lump in my throat. I think America actually loved him. I think of him everytime I am in there. They have the best burgers in the industry and I think that point was made in that famous guidebook the name of which is escaping me now.
Dave was most certainly an icon, as well as an inspiration to so many.
And you’re right, SamHenry… I think America DID love him. I was so sad when he passed away.
Zagut Guide rates Wendy’s burgers as the best in the fast food industry.
Hey you do know this post was highlighted over at legalinsurrection.com today?
Whoa, I sure didn’t. VERY cool!
:O
Thanks for the heads up on that, SamHenry! You’re a good pal for letting me know – I read Legal Insurrection early this morning, but missed it.
