People from across the globe gathered at the Oral Roberts University Mabee Center Monday to say goodbye to a major figure of 20th century Christianity. Oral Roberts died last Tuesday at his home in Newport Beach, Calif., at age 91.

“Oral was the greatest futurist I have ever known,” the Rev. James Buskirk, former dean of the ORU seminary, said before the service. “And in the spirit of Jesus, he never struck back when he was criticized. When Oral believed in you, he never gave up on you.”
Mart Green, chairman of the ORU board, said Roberts’ legacy was his concept of the whole person.
“All of life is spent working to become whole,” he said. “Today, Oral is whole.”
He said that before Roberts died, he confided in Green that he had a “deep, settled peace.”
San Antonio mega-church pastor John Hagee said before the service that “Christianity has lost one of its special, great generals, and we’re going to miss him greatly.”
