Nebraska’s Unpopular Sen. Nelson Taking an Arrogant Page Out of Obama’s Playbook… When Criticized, Go on TV

The hot water Nebraska’s Ben Nelson is in with his constituents has hit the 212-degree-Fahrenheit mark. Not only has Sen. Nelson arrogantly ignored what the majority of Nebraskans want and don’t want with government-run health care, but he’ll be going on television to tell them why they’re wrong and ignorant and why he isn’t.
Why HE knows what is best for those silly Nebraskans. After getting a taxpayer-funded bribe from Dingy Harry Reid, of course.
A page of blatant arrogance ripped right out of community organizer Barack Obama’s playbook. TV time = assumed vindication of all sins and selling out your voters.
TV is the panacea of the Democrat Party.
From Journal Star, Beleaguered Nelson to air TV ad tonight:
As a fresh poll measured the political cost of Sen. Ben Nelson’s health reform vote, he prepared Tuesday to take his case directly to Nebraskans during Wednesday night’s Holiday Bowl game.
Nelson will air a new TV ad in which he attempts to debunk opposition claims that the Senate legislation represents a government takeover, and he makes the case for health care reform.
“With all the distortions about health care reform, I want you to hear directly from me,” the Democratic senator says in the ad.
Nelson, dressed in an open-necked shirt and sweater, speaks directly into the camera during the 30-second ad.
The message will be launched during the Nebraska-Arizona football game and continue to air statewide for an undisclosed number of days.
The political damage Nelson may have incurred in providing the critical 60th vote that cleared the way for Senate passage of the health care reform bill showed up Tuesday in a poll released by Rasmussen Reports.
The telephone survey of 500 Nebraskans, conducted Monday, suggested Republican Gov. Dave Heineman would defeat Nelson in a potential 2012 Senate race by a 61-30 margin.
The poll showed Nelson with a 55 percent unfavorable rating and 64 percent disapproval for Democratic health care reform legislation.

In his TV message to Nebraskans, Nelson says: “I listened to you and took a common-sense approach to improve the bill.
“Now it lowers costs for families and small business, protects Medicare, finally guarantees coverage for pre-existing conditions and reduces the deficit.
“And it’s not run by the government.
“I’m convinced this is right for Nebraska,” Nelson says.
In a nutshell, Nelson listened to Nebraskans (he says), analyzed the thousands of pages in the Senate health bill (he says), claims it saves money and reduces the national deficit (which it doesn’t), then after getting a juicy bribe from Democrat Senate leader Harry Reid and his weasels (likely using taxpayer stimulus/porkulus funds), chose to do what he damn well pleased and blew off the loud-and-clear message from those who voted him into office.
Nelson’s hoping with his new TV ad, that by 2012, Nebraska will have forgotten his corrupt, arrogant sell-out on ObamaCare. Fat chance.

Despite getting hundreds of millions of dollars for his home state in a grubby deal with Harry Reid for his vote on ObamaCare, 55% of Nebraskans disapprove of Nelson’s performance, with only 40% approving. Interestingly, that number remains exactly the same among men and women. It’s almost as bad with independents (54%), and every age demographic has a majority disapproving of Nelson.
Here’s an interesting internal: among those uninsured, 62% disapprove of Nelson after his vote on ObamaCare. In fact, fewer uninsured approve of Nelson (37%) than insured (39%).

Democratic leaders spent days trying to hammer out a deal with Nelson, and worked late Friday night with Nelson on abortion coverage language that had proved the major stumbling block. But Nelson also secured other favors for his home state.
