Coakley Stands by Her Lying “Rape Victims” Mailer, Boston College Law Dean Speaks Out Against Her Indecent Tactics

Senate-wannabe Martha Coakley is stubbornly, foolishly standing by her despicable mailer sent to Democrat Massachusetts voters that lies about Republican candidate Scott Brown and medical treatment for rape victims… Martha, you had a chance to correct a grievous (and criminal) wrong, but you’ve chosen (again) to take the low road.
Now Coakley’s being taken to the proverbial woodshed by Dean John Garvey of Boston College Law School. Detention for you, Martha.

By now, the hideous rape mailer sent out by the Massachusetts Democratic Party in support of Martha Coakley has been called out by commentators on the right and left as one of the more heinous tactics in the tawdry annals of American politics.
Coakley has refused to disavow the mailing, and has kept up her false assertion that Brown wanted to prevent rape victims from getting treatment.
Now John Garvey, the Dean of Boston College Law School, has weighed in on Coakley’s tactics:
Political ads by nature are not sensitive to nuance. Coakley’s ad charges Brown with a lack of “understanding or seriousness” because he “favors letting hospitals deny emergency contraception to rape victims.” But suggesting that we protect the right of conscience does not show a lack of understanding or seriousness. It does not even show a lack of support for abortion – any more than it shows a lack of support for the armed forces to say that we should exempt Quakers. What both show is a decent respect for religious liberty, as admirable and American as [James Madison] the author of the First Amendment.
Win or lose, Martha Coakley’s legacy will be that she willingly abused the issue of rape for her own political gain.
Which means that Coakley loses no matter what.

But in the final hours of the campaign, Coakley is an increasingly desperate Democrat who has stooped to slander. A lurid flier aimed at female voters claims that “1,736 women were raped in Massachusetts in 2008. Scott Brown wants hospitals to turn them all away.” Brown is, as it happens, pro-choice (though he’s in favor of more restrictions than Coakley is). This vile lie was based on Brown’s support for a conscience exemption (which also was supported by Ted Kennedy) for emergency room personnel who do not wish to prescribe the abortifacient “morning-after pill.” That’s a world away from closing hospital doors on rape victims.

Martha Coakley’s legacy could include the fact that she thought she had the senate seat in the bag.
I hope the anti-socialists in Massachusetts embrace the Constitutional Principles this Country was built upon.
This election is like the superbowl for conservatives across the country.
Obama made a mistake in going up there to stump for Marcia, sorry, Martha.
Obama faced some of the biggest criticism of his tenure as CIC in one of the most liberal states in America.
