At my age, I’m doing better than most older adults to even know who Lady Gaga is… and to know that she’s NOT dead. Sigh.

More Internet rumors swirling madly about over a celebrity’s supposed death — usually from a gruesome car accident, beheading optional. The list grows: Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Eminem, Will Smith, Zac Efron, to name but a few.

Who starts this wackiness in the first place? Is there a pimply, bespectacled blogger in Chicago, sitting in front of his computer, holed up in his dank, dark bedroom, rubbing his clammy hands with malevolent anticipation about sending gullible teens into a tailspin over another false cyber report of a beloved celebrity’s demise? Craziness…

Has anyone seen Elvis lately?

Sadly, just before Christmas, when the news first broke about actress Brittany Murphy’s premature death, I thought that, too, was one of these silly Internet rumors. Regrettably, it wasn’t.

But back to rumor squashing… Lady Gaga (whose birth name is Stefani Germanotta) is alive and well, kiddoes. No death. No car crash. No pending funeral. All rumors.

From Gather.com, Lady Gaga Dead! (PHOTO) Irish Radio Ad Causes Panic:

Lady Gaga Dead! Okay, we’ve heard this one before. Every week another celebrity death rumor makes its way across the web. A week ago it was Johnny Depp and before that Eminem. Some people with creative Photoshop skills, even go through the trouble of creating a fake news page showing the tragic accident as they did in the case of Johnny Depp.

So, just so it’s clear, Lady Gaga is NOT dead. The rumor was supposedly started an Irish Radio station, 102-104 FM, that displayed an ad saying Lady Gaga was dead. The ad illustrates a bloody body of a woman under a canvas, while blood seeps out of the clothes. The ad says, “When you play great music back-to-back somebody is going to get hurt.” There is blood on the wall behind the woman’s body and a woman’s leg is protruding out from the canvas. Beside the ad is a sign reading “Britney Spears Lady Gaga,” a play on Spear’s last name.

For those over 35, Lady Gaga (birth name, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) is hot-hot-hot on the music scene. Her bizarre performances and fashion statements are cutting edge, reminiscent of glam rock and Queen… she could end up becoming another Madonna, if only because she’s talented, unpredictable, offbeat, and is making her eye-popping fashion mark with unique ensembles. Like Madonna used to be and do in the 1980s. And despite rumors that Lady Gaga is actually a man, a transvestite, I have yet to find anything reputable that corroborates that suspicion as anything more than a rumor. I’m gonna stick my neck out here… she’s a female.

UPDATE, January 31, 2010: Here is Lady Gaga’s Grammy “futurist” outfit that is causing a huge stir at the awards ceremony tonight… critics despise the dress, whereas her fans are thrilled over it, calling it brilliant.

Some bio background on Lady Gaga, from Andrea Fiona Pagliai Londono’s Blog: Go Gaga for Gaga:

Her inspirations trace back to Madonna, Grace Jones, and David Bowie. But, now Lady Gaga is the trend. Revealing, tight-fitting leotards, be-dazzled bras, and space-rock inspired jewelry are all part of her identifying wardrobe. Her platinum blonde, stick-straight waist-length hair, adorned with a heavy dose of blunt bangs and glitter face-paint make-up, all contribute to signature components of her look.
