Millionaire filmmaker and hypocrite Michael Moore... Michigan taxpayers will help fund his anti-capitalist film
Call me a cynic, but shouldn’t precious taxpayer dollars be used RESPONSIBLY? Since when was funding (translation: bailing out) a liberal, America-bashing millionaire’s film against capitalism during the worst recession in three decades responsible? Or sane?
Oh, wait… it’s the Obama era of “hopenchange.” Forgot. My bad.
From The Powers That Be: Michigan Taxpayers Subsidized Capitalist Michael Moore’s Anti-Capitalist Movie:
As a Michigan taxpayer, I’m thrilled to know that I subsidized Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” movie. I mean, what better way to fight corporate greed than by having my money taken from me and given to Michael Moore’s corporation so he can get rich exposing the evils of capitalism?
Moore’s anti-greed film takes on “the disastrous impact of corporate dominance on the lives of everyday Americans.” Among those disasters, taxpayer dollars being used to prop up evil, irresponsible, uncaring corporations. Might as well throw “Michael Moore Inc.” on that pile of evil corporations. But this irony isn’t any funnier than the morbidly obese slobbish Moore lecturing the country about health care.
And I won’t even bother to dwell on the comic economic ignorance of a state that claims to be trying to lure back business offering huge tax breaks to a man to make a movie that bashes business.

The liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore has been a critic of state tax credits for Hollywood films, but did one of his own films benefit from one of those credits in his home state of Michigan?
It seems so, according to a report by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and educational institute focusing on issues in Michigan.
The center checked with the Michigan Film Office and learned that a “production person” had applied for one of the tax credits for “Capitalism: A Love Story,” Moore’s 2009 film about corporate greed, parts of which were filmed in Michigan.

Moore applied for and will receive the tax goodies while sitting on Michigan’s Film Office Advisory Council:
The 2009 documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story,” produced by Michigan filmmaker Michael Moore, has been approved for a subsidy from the Michigan Film Office, according to a video released today by Kathy Hoekstra, communications specialist for the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Moore is a member of the Film Office Advisory Council, which advises the state-run Michigan Film Office.
“While we don’t blame Mr. Moore and his production team for taking what is offered, it’s striking that a movie focused on the inequities of granting taxpayer dollars to private enterprise would apply for and receive taxpayer-funded incentives,” said Michael LaFaive, fiscal policy director at the Mackinac Center. “Government should not be bailing out or subsidizing Wall Street banks or main street filmmakers. As Moore knows, this marriage between government and business — in the name of creating and saving jobs — can facilitate every sort of mischief.”
