Massachusetts: Scott Brown Should Be Certified Today… Democrats Could Delay His Swearing-In Ceremony, So Keep Your Eyes Open

As some of you may recall, long before all the votes were counted in the NY-23 congressional race last fall, Democrat turncoat Bill Owens was sworn in so that Nancy Pelosi could have him vote for her albatross of a health care bill. Conservative Doug Hoffman lost by only a thin percentage.
NY-23 Timetable: Election held on November 3, Owens sworn in (with Nancy Pelosi grinning from ear to ear), on November 7. Then he voted for the bill that he promised he would not vote for. ALL THIS WAS DONE IN FEWER THAN FOUR DAYS after the New York polls closed. Democrats ram through their own precious agenda and candidates in breathless, breakneck speed.
And it turns out that Owens was either a gigantic liar or a Pelosi lap puppy… she wanted him there to vote on her PelosiCare bill and Owens went against what he’d promised his future New York constituents. The worm also broke a few other campaign promises within the first hour of being sworn in.

Congressman-elect Bill Owens was sworn in at noon today.
Owens indicated in a press release that he was now in favor of the bill in direct contrast to his earlier position during his campaign.
According to Politico.com, Mr. Owens assured voters that he felt the public option had no place in the health care reform bill. Contrary to that position, Mr. Owens now indicates that he intends to vote in favor of the bill even though it now contains a public option.
How about that, New York? You let another Democrat politician lie to you, but voted for him anyway… true cajones on this slime-weasel reprobate.
What did Queen Pelosi promise him to buy him off for his vote on the socialized health care bill? Or was Owens lying to New Yorkers all along?

I bring this Owens/Hoffman debacle up because now Democrats may be dragging their feet on swearing-in senate-elect Scott Brown to Congress.
Yes, Brown has requested that the timetable be moved up, but if Rep.-elect Bill Owens could be installed before absentee votes were counted and in less than four days after the polls closed, swearing in Brown should not present any realistic problem for Congress. Especially since the number of votes separating Scott Brown and Martha Coakley are huge compared to the teeny-tiny number of votes that separated Hoffman and Owens last November.
There could be a problem if Vice President Joe Biden has been dispatched to Russia again. In which case, couldn’t Pelosi or Clinton fill in for Crazy Joe?
Apparently, state officials could have certified the win earlier, but instead sat on the Mass. election results for days.

Republican Scott Brown called on the governor of Massachusetts to certify the results of his upset Senate win by Thursday morning, allowing him to be sworn in earlier than his target date next week because, he says, there are votes he doesn’t want to miss.

The senator-elect now says there are Senate votes in which he may want to participate, but he didn’t specify which ones. Once sworn in, Brown would give the GOP 41 votes in the Senate, one more than the party needs to sustain a filibuster of Democratic initiatives.
In a letter Wednesday to Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick, Brown counsel Daniel Winslow said he wanted the results of the Jan. 19 election certified by 11 a.m. Thursday so they could be forwarded to Senate officials for immediate action.
Hours earlier, Secretary of State William F. Galvin delivered official copies of the election results to the Governor’s Council. And Patrick’s staff announced the governor would sign Brown’s election certificate in the council’s presence — as is required by law — during a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Those actions would satisfy the timetable Winslow later outlined in his letter.

As pre-election polls showed him with a chance of winning, Brown complained when Galvin — a Democrat — said it would take him several weeks to certify the results because of a state law requiring a 10-day waiting period to receive absentee ballots. There also is an additional five-day waiting period for cities and towns to send him their official results.
On Jan. 20, Galvin sought to defuse the situation by sending the Senate clerk a letter saying it appeared Brown had won the election. Similar documents had previously allowed newly elected members of the House to be sworn in.
Yet officials in the Senate, similarly controlled by Democrats, said they needed an official certification from the governor before scheduling a ceremony with Vice President Joe Biden, who serves as president of the Senate.
President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid lessened any need for an immediate ceremony when they pledged to withhold any votes on the president’s proposed health care overhaul until Brown was seated.
Will they delay Brown’s swearing-in ceremony? Don’t know, but Massachusetts voters, keep your eyes open and be prepared to loudly protest if they do.

On a cheerier note, while Pres. Obama dissed Scott Brown and his old truck during the senate race, the president didn’t insult him during his State of the Union address.
The insults from POTUS during the SOTU were reserved for the Supreme Court, the GOP, and George W. Bush.
Guess Brown got off “Scott-Free.”
