ABC News: Anophthalmia — Baby Born Without Eyes (video)

ABC News reports this week on Baby Brielle Garrison, who will need several surgeries after being born with a rare condition called anophthalmia. She was born without any ocular tissue whatsoever. No eyes.

Startling.

I’ve never heard of this condition, and I’m guessing, most of you haven’t, either.

This unusual human interest story echoes, for me, this age-old proverb (attributed, in slightly modified formats, to the Chinese, the Persians, the Native Americans, and Denis Waitley):

I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.

Baby Brielle’s condition solemnly puts many things in my own life into perspective.
