Global warming debunking continues as the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, aka IPCC, admits to MORE data manipulation and the ignoring of data that didn’t support their theory of global warming. Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II is the voice of reason here, joining Texas and Alabama by filing for an extension on climate change rulings.

No, Mr. President, despite what you claim, the scientific evidence is not there and is not “settled.”

In light of the mounting AGW scandals and scientific improprieties and protocol breeches circling IPCC’s bogus global warming data and Dr. Phil Jones of Anglia University admitting over the weekend that there is no evidence to show that global warming exists or existed even 15 years ago, the attorney general of Virginia has stepped forward. He now joins Texas and Alabama in fighting the government’s EPA in its zealous effort to regulate carbon dioxide.

From The Washington Post: Virginia challenges U.S. greenhouse gas curbs:

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II (R) on Tuesday filed paperwork attacking the legal underpinnings of an Obama administration effort to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, joining a crowd of political conservatives and business groups with similar objections.

Cuccinelli sent a petition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, asking the agency to reconsider its finding in December that greenhouse gases pose a danger to public health by contributing to climate change. That finding is a legal trigger, which would allow the EPA to regulate those gases under the Clean Air Act, the same way it regulates the pollutants that cause smog.

Cuccinelli also filed a separate petition asking a federal court to review the EPA’s finding.

From Examiner, Virginia’s attorney general asks EPA for more time to challenge climate findings:

Today, Virginia’s attorney general Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II, asked the EPA to delay final consideration of its finding last year that carbon dioxide (CO2) is a pollutant that endangers public health and welfare. Virginia now joins Texas and Alabama in fighting the EPA in its efforts to regulate CO2.

Carbon dioxide is a colorless gas created by human beings with every breath as a natural part of the carbon cycle. It is required for green plants to grow. It’s also a natural by-product of burning fuels made from organic (carbon-based) sources, such as coal, oil and natural gas.

In making its finding, the EPA relied heavily on the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) AR report of 2007. In this report, the IPCC declared that the earth is warming and that humans are responsible for most of that warming. The report also declared that CO2 emissions from human activities must be quickly cut, in order to prevent global catastrophes, including droughts, floods, hurricanes and famines.

Reducing CO2 emissions would require that the global economy, which is currently powered by fossil fuels, must be dramatically restructured within a very short time. To do this, governments would have to heavily subsidize “clean” energy sources, such as biofuels, solar, wind, and possibly nuclear power, in order to make them profitable, while taxing coal, oil and natural gas, which are still the cheapest sources of electricity and heat.

The result, says Christopher Horner, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, would be “the biggest regulatory intervention in history: the restricting of carbon emissions from all human activity.” The CEI has filed two petitions in federal court to reconsider the endangerment finding, and has filed a lawsuit with the EPA.

In 2007, the Supreme Court declared that CO2 and other greenhouse gases are pollutants. This finding was heavily based on recommendations in the IPCC’s 2007 report.

Speaking of “scientist” Phil Jones, a story on FOXNews.com about the BBC interview reveals that Jones now admits “there has been no global warming over the past 15 years.”

Jones also allowed for the possibility that the world as a whole was warmer in medieval times than it is today — a concession that may also undermine theories that global warming is caused by man.

In addition, Jones admitted that an overall lack of organization, and his poor record keeping and office-tidying skills, had contributed to his reluctance to share data with critics, which he regretted.

The Heritage Foundation also studied the BBC interview of Phil Jones and was particularly interested in the following question and answer:

BBC: “When scientists say “the debate on climate change is over”, what exactly do they mean – and what don’t they mean?”

Jones: “It would be supposition on my behalf to know whether all scientists who say the debate is over are saying that for the same reason. I don’t believe the vast majority of climate scientists think this. This is not my view. There is still much that needs to be undertaken to reduce uncertainties, not just for the future, but for the instrumental (and especially the palaeoclimatic) past as well.”

The Heritage Foundation was correct is focusing on this response because it points to our current state of affairs where politics is forcing an issue of science when the full scientific understanding doesn’t even exist.

If the vast majority of climatologists do not believe the debate on climate change is over, why do our politicians pushing for cap and trade and a transition to a “clean energy economy” repeatedly assert that the science is settled? Because the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said so and told us that a warming planet was “unequivocal.”

And because this is NOT about the climate. It’s about money and power and another way for people to be taxed and an elite group of “leaders” to get rich.
