Sad: Samantha Bell: My Dad Joe Stack Is a Hero for His Anti-Government Plane Crash (video) – Update: Vernon Hunter, Vietnam Vet, Identified as Fatal Victim in IRS Building

Zimbio reports: Samantha Bell Says Dad Joe Stack Is a Hero:
Joe Stack made headlines last week after he crashed a small plane into an office complex in Austin, Texas, leaving a website with his manifesto/suicide letter for the world to see. Now his daughter Samantha Bell has spoken out about the event, claiming her father is a “hero” for bringing attention to the government’s faults.
Joe Stack (via NYDN.com) According to the New York Daily News, Bell said, “I think too many people lay around and wait for things to happen. But if nobody comes out and speaks up on behalf of injustice, then nothing will ever be accomplished. I have many cases of people I know that are suffering in the hands of the government and people literally dying because they are not getting the help they need.”
She went on, “His last actions, the suicide, the catastrophe that caused injuries and death, that was wrong. He may have been somewhat frustrated, but he was a very quiet man. The father I knew was a loving, caring, devoted man who cherished every moment with me and my three children, his grandchildren… This man who did this was not my father. He must’ve kept this bottled up all these years.”
I won’t comment further on what IS and what IS NOT heroism, since this woman is obviously in a great deal of pain over her father’s death last week, following his deliberate ramming of a stolen Piper Cherokee into a government building, the Echelon Building, in Texas. This came after he wrote a rambling anti-government, anti-Bush manifesto posted to the Internet and had set his own home on fire. I won’t add to Samantha Bell’s pain.
It’s been reported that Stack killed IRS manager Vernon Hunter, age 67, and wounded 13 people in the plane crash. Hunter was an Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam. TWO tours. That’s a hero…
Our prayers go to his family, who are also going through tremendous pain.

We now know the IRS worker who was killed in the attack on an office building in Austin. He was Vernon Hunter, a 67-year old Revenue Office Manager. He was responsible for collections. Correspondent Kris Gutierrez talked with his wife, Valerie, who also works for the IRS and was in the same building when the attack happened. They have six grown children who live outside of Austin and who are flying in to be with their mother.
Valerie Hunter says before yesterday, she had never heard the name Joseph Stack. He’s the man investigators say set fire to his own home before getting in a plane and flying it into the office building. Witnesses confirm it was a deliberate attack. They say the plane looked like it was “dive-bombing” the building that is next to a busy Austin freeway. Stack left behind a lengthy, obscenity-filled internet post expressing his frustration with the IRS. Within hours of the attack, several Facebook pages were created in support of Stack’s barbaric attack. Looking at the building and the surrounding area, it’s amazing more people were not killed or injured. Another person was also severely hurt in the attack, a worker for the Texas Comptroller’s office.

“How can you call someone a hero who after he burns down his house, gets into his plane … and drives it into the building to kill people?” Ken Hunter told Good Morning America. “My dad Vernon did two tours of duty in Vietnam. My dad’s a hero.”
Ken Hunter told CBS affiliate KEYE on Saturday that he is outraged by the idea of Stack being called a “hero” for what he did and the alleged reason he did it.

Last week as we all know a man who was tired of paying taxes, torched his home (attempting to kill his wife and child) and then flew his plane into an IRS building injuring several and killing on man.
I’ve completely stopped watching coverage of this cowardly act because in the media they only seemed to care about one thing. Who was the man who flew his plane into the building? I know all I really need to know about him. He was a coward who only thought of himself and his poor terrible life and he decided to end his life by flying his plane into a federal building. I’ve always seen suicides as cowardice. I do not understand people that think suicide is easier on them or how they think it’s going to be easier on their family. But this coward took it to another level deciding that he was going to take out as many people as possible.
Fortunately only one person was killed in this act of cowardice (and that’s one too many) but one would be hard pressed to find any news coverage of that man.
Turns out the man was a Vietnam vet by the name of Vernon Hunter. People have come out of the woodwork trying to prop the suicidal coward up as some kind of anti-tax hero and patriot but as Mr. Hunter’s son put it, Vernon was THE hero and patriot, he “…served two terms in Vietnam. This guy never served at all. My dad wasn’t responsible for his tax problems.” Think about it. Vernon Hunter served two tours in Vietnam fighting for our rights so that this coward could have the opportunity to live in the freest country in the world. How does he repay Vernon Hunter? He kills him because he was unhappy with his taxes?
