Another tragedy has been reported today about a former child actor and teen idol… Corey Haim — of “the two Coreys” ’80s and ’90s fame, coupled with fellow teen heartthrob Corey Feldman — has died in Burbank, California at age 38 of a possible prescription drug overdose.

Rest in peace, Corey.

From MTV News: Corey Haim Found Dead:

Actor Corey Haim, 38, was found dead early Wednesday (March 10), the Los Angeles County Coroner and the LAPD confirmed to MTV News. While neither would comment or speculate on the cause of death, a police source reportedly told KTLA that the actor, who rose to fame in the 1980s alongside longtime pal Corey Feldman, died of an apparent accidental drug overdose. The coroner’s office told MTV News that an autopsy is planned.

Haim was pronounced dead at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank, police told MTV News.

Haim was born in Ontario in 1971 and as a teenager found fame in Hollywood. His first role was in 1984′s “Firstborn” with Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. He was one of the best-known young actors of the decade, alongside other notable actors like C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez. He starred in films like “Silver Bullet,” “Lucas,” and most famously 1987′s “The Lost Boys,” with Feldman as well as Kiefer Sutherland.

In the 1990s Haim played more obscure roles yet continued to work steadily in films like “National Lampoon’s Last Resort” and “Prayer of the Rollerboys.” Haim struggled with substance abuse through much of his career.

Haim also reportedly was in and out of rehab 15 times, but cleaned up in 2004 after moving to Toronto.

From Slope Dope, SFGate, Corey Haim: Snowboard Star:

Sad to hear about the death of Corey Haim today, a child star who appears to have lost his long-running battle with drug addiction. May he rest in peace.

The Ski Channel pointed out that Haim starred in the cornball skier vs. snowboarder flick, Snowboard Academy, back in the ’90s. Here’s their post, along with a snippet:

We all loved Corey Haim here at The Ski Channel for many reasons, but the one that sticks in our mind the most is the fact that he starred in one of the best all time skier vs. snowboarder films, “Snowboard Academy”. Jim Varney, another actor taken before his time, starred opposite Corey.

As explained by IMDB, “Snowboard Academy” is a “wacky free-for-all comedy about the riotous rivalry between snobby skiers and knuckle-dragging snowboarders”. The tagline of the film is: “The path to higher education is all downhill!”

From TMZ, Corey Haim Approached by ‘Celebrity Rehab’:

Corey Haim was approached in the last 10 days by the casting company for “Celebrity Rehab” … TMZ has learned.

Sources connected with Dr. Drew’s show tell us casting producers called Corey. They say he was “extremely defensive and insulted, saying, ‘It’s the last show I’d ever do.’”

Our sources say the 3-minute conversation ended with Corey saying, “I do not need help.”

We’re also told the casting producers spoke with Corey’s mom last October at an autograph convention, pitching the show.

From MTV Movie Blog, Corey Haim’s ‘The Lost Boys’ Was The Original Teen Vampire Flick:

Before “Twilight,” before “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” there was “The Lost Boys.”

The seminal 1987 teen vampire flick starred Corey Haim as a confused teenager battling a band of leather-clad alterna-vampires in his new hometown of Santa Carla, California. The role helped establish Haim as a legitimate movie heartthrob in the wake of his first semi-hit, 1986’s weepy “Lucas,” and it kicked off a career-long association and friendship with fellow troubled teen actor and co-star, Corey Feldman.

The 38-year-old Haim, who was found dead of a suspected drug overdose on Wednesday in Los Angeles, played Sam Emerson in the film, a nerdy, excitable teen forced to move to the mysterious coastal California town after his mother’s divorce. Shortly after their arrival, older brother Michael (Jason Patric), falls for the sensuous Star (Jamie Gertz) and is seduced into joining the pre-Hot Topic-looking vamp gang led by David (Kiefer Sutherland), while Haim’s character hooks up with comic book geek Edgar (Feldman), a self-proclaimed vampire hunter.

What followed was an epic battle between the outcast vampire-stalking teenage boys and the sexy teen undead, with Haim torn between helping his brother and following Feldman’s advice to kill him and vamp boss David…

From SFGate, Corey Feldman: ‘Corey Haim died destitute’:

Former child star Corey Haim was “destitute” when he died, according to his close friend Corey Feldman.

“The Lost Boys” star was discovered unresponsive at his mother’s California home on Wednesday and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital in Burbank.

Feldman, who starred in a string of movies with Haim, remained close to his pal up until his sudden death, and admits he was living in a budget apartment with his mother in his final days, because he was so “broke” he couldn’t even afford a car.

Feldman tells Larry King, “Corey was living in the Oakwood Apartments with his mom, very broke, very destitute. It’s a month-to-month living. He doesn’t have anything. He didn’t even have a car.”

Haim filed for bankruptcy protection in 1997 after allegedly running up massive medical bills and owing more than $200,000 in state and federal taxes.
