ObamaCare “Fine Print” Nightmare Continues: Now 60 Doctor-owned Hospitals Canceled Because of Democrats’ New Oppressive Health Law, Thousands of Jobs Killed
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on April 13, 2010
More jaw-dropping ObamaCare surprises are being revealed. And this is why, boys and girls, that before you sign your name to a document or cast your precious congressional vote to pass a 2,700-page government-run health care monstrosity, you READ IT FIRST.
But Democrats in Congress didn’t want anyone to read it… which is becoming painfully clear why with each passing day. They authored it, they knew what was in it.
The “socialist health care fine print nightmare” continues: Not only does ObamaCare destroy the plans of building 60 more doctor-owned hospitals, but it has killed the jobs of thousands of American construction workers, electricians, carpet layers, plumbers, janitors, cafeteria workers, landscapers, florists, medical technicians, receptionists, and many other untold jobs, both pre- and post-operational. ObamaCare has abruptly halted the sale of millions of dollars of medical equipment.
From a health provision point of view and from an employment/job creation point of view, ObamaCare is a deadly assassin.
From The Daily Caller, 60 doctor-owned hospitals canceled due to new health law:
The new health care overhaul law – that promised increased access and efficiency in health care – will prevent doctor-owned hospitals from adding more rooms and more beds.
These hospitals are advertised as less bureaucratic and more focused on doctor-patient decision making. However, larger corporate hospitals say doctor-owned facilities discriminate in favor of high-income patients and refer business to themselves.
The new rules single out physician-owned hospitals, making new physician-owned projects ineligible to receive payments for Medicare and Medicaid patients.
Existing doctor-owned hospitals will be grandfathered in to get government funds for patients but must seek permission from the Department of Health and Human Services to expand.
From Up, 60 New Hospitals Cancel Construction Because of Health Care Bill:
Some of the best hospitals in America are privately owned by doctors. At the present time, there are 260 doctor owned hospital in the United States in 38 states provide over 50,000 jobs with over $2,000,000,000 in payroll and pay over $500 million in federal taxes each year.
These hospitals provide some of the best care for specific ailments and diseases. These hospitals include many in Oklahoma which offer cancer care and back surgeries. But there will be no more expansion of these hospitals and at this time, 60 new private hospitals that were to begin construction, have now announced they will no longer proceed with their plans to build.
A health care bill that promised to provide coverage but not access, is doing just that. Now, everyone will have coverage but what good is it if the hospitals have to shut down? Worse yet, what good is coverage if those hospitals aren’t even built in the first place?
This is America. We used to have the right to make money. We used to have the right to be free. That’s what this country was built upon. We read about how terrible “big insurance” is but we don’t hear about “big hospitals.” They’re the ones who support Democrat politicians. Big Hospitals are the ones that have lobbied the Democrats to get privately owned hospitals outlawed. They haven’t succeeded there, but they have made expansion of private hospitals come to a stand still.
This is not a new debate. For years, the American Hospital Association which represents large corporate hospitals, has been actively fighting against doctor owned hospitals. To put this fight into simple terms, it would be like Wal-Mart fighting against little mom and pop specialty stores simply because the mom and pop stores eat into the profits of Wal-Mart. This is un-American.
Bravo on health care coverage to all. Unfortunately, that is meaningless without access to health care.
From The Jamestown Sun, What is Obamacare really about?:
It hasn’t attracted much notice, but recently some prominent advocates of Obamacare have spoken more frankly than ever before about why they supported a national healthcare makeover. It wasn’t just about making insurance more affordable. It wasn’t just about bending the cost curve. It wasn’t just about cutting the federal deficit. It was also about redistributing wealth.
Health reform is “an income shift,” Democratic Sen. Max Baucus said on March 25. “It is a shift, a leveling, to help lower-income, middle-income Americans.”
In his halting, jumbled style, Baucus explained that in recent years, “the maldistribution of income in America has gone up way too much, the wealthy are getting way, way too wealthy, and the middle-income class is left behind.” The new healthcare legislation, Baucus promised, “will have the effect of addressing that maldistribution of income in America.”
At about the same time, Howard Dean, the former Democratic National Committee chairman and presidential candidate, said the health bill was needed to correct economic inequities. “The question is, in a democracy, what is the right balance between those at the top … and those at the bottom?” Dean said during an appearance on CNBC. “When it gets out of whack, as it did in the 1920s, and it has now, you need to do some redistribution. This is a form of redistribution.”
Summing things up in the New York Times, the liberal economics columnist David Leonhardt called Obamacare “the federal government’s biggest attack on economic inequality since inequality began rising more than three decades ago.”
Now they tell us. For many opponents of the new legislation, the statements confirmed a nagging suspicion that for Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress, the health fight was about more than just insurance — that redistribution played a significant, if largely unspoken, part in the drive for national health care.
“I don’t think most people, when they think of the healthcare bill, instantly think it’s a vehicle to redistribute wealth,” said pollster Scott Rasmussen. “But we do know that people overwhelmingly believe it will lead to an increase in middle-class taxes, and we do know that people are concerned that it will hurt their own quality of care, so I think their gut instincts point in that direction.”

And it’s just going to get worse, as more stuff comes to light. Best it comes to light before November, for conservatives.
I’ve already been seeing problems in my job (long term nursing) with finding doctors who will care for Medicare patients. We can’t find any and we can’t keep the few we do find, when they realize how much money this will cost them and the prospects of law suits. I don’t know the stats but I’m willing to bet that long term care has high (if not the highest) rates of litigation. People want to line their pockets when their family members die… harsh as that is to say, it’s true.
There is always a bright side to everything. The rocket scientists aka Congress who did not read the bill screwed themselves.
“The law apparently bars members of Congress from the federal employees health program, on the assumption that lawmakers should join many of their constituents in getting coverage through new state-based markets known as insurance exchanges.”
Genius.
Mcnorman, I read that too – Patterico’s Pontifications has an excellent discussion this morning on Congress screwing itself out of its platinum health care plan. Oops.
Bring popcorn, more to come.
I’ll believe that when I see it.
