The violence, murders, and kidnappings in Mexico, believed to be linked to drug cartels, are not abating… a Mexican Holiday Inn in Monterrey was stormed by dozens of armed gunmen yesterday, and six people at the hotel were kidnapped.

From FOX News, Dozens of Gunmen Storm Mexican Holiday Inn, Kidnapping at Least 6 People:

Dozens of gunmen have kidnapped at least six people after storming a Holiday Inn hotel in Mexico.

Police said the heavily-armed gang ran from room to room before abducting a receptionist and four guests in the northern city of Monterrey, the country’s third-largest city.

The U.S. consulate in Monterrey has denied media reports that an American woman was among the kidnapped.

Nuevo Leon state attorney general Alejandro Garza y Garza said the violence was probably caused by rivalry between drug gangs in the state following a feud between the Gulf cartel and its former ally the Zetas cartel.

Local newspapers said the gunmen hijacked several trucks and used them to block neighboring roads to stop police chasing them.

More than 22,700 people have so far died in drug violence since Mexican president Felipe Calderon launched a military crackdown on organized crime after taking office four years ago.

Last month, Arizona rancher Robert Krentz was murdered on his land — police are looking for a man who is “a person of interest.” Michelle Malkin reports the following, via the Arizona Daily Star, Update on Arizona rancher Robert Krentz murder case:

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a person of interest in several burglaries this year in the Portal area in southeastern Arizona.

It is looking for Alejandro Chavez-Vasquez, who has given authorities various birth dates and lives in Agua Prieta, Mexico. Officials say he has a criminal history with convictions that include sex crimes, auto theft and being in and returning the the U.S. after being deported, according to a news release.

The news release doesn’t identify Chavez-Vasquez as a person of interest in the killing of longtime rancher Robert Krentz on March 27, but a news release of this type is unusual for the department, and the Portal area is just north of where Krentz was found dead on his ranch.

Chavez-Vasquez is currently only a person of interest in the burglaries.

But Cochise County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Carol Capas said she didn’t dismiss the possibility that Chavez-Vasquez could provide useful information in the Krentz investigation. “It would depend on what he would be able to tell us about other burglaries or other open cases we have,” Capas said.

To curtail the violence and the rampant illegal immigration in the state, Arizona is on the cusp of passing one of the toughest bills in the nation concerning illegal immigration. Pres. Obama openly criticized the bill today:

CBS News, Obama Criticizes “Misguided” Arizona Immigration Bill:

President Obama suggested today that the immigration bill expected to be signed into law in Arizona is a “misguided” piece of legislation that “threatened to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe. ”

Mr. Obama made the comments during a naturalization ceremony in the White House Rose Garden for two dozen active duty service members. He said the Arizona bill, which would mandate that police ask questions about a person’s immigration status if they suspected the person might be in the United States illegally, was the result of a lack of action on immigration reform on a federal level.

[...]

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer may sign the immigration legislation into law today. In Mexico, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution urging Brewer to veto the bill because lawmakers there say it will result in unfair harassment and racial profiling of Hispanics.

Arizona has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants and the state has become perhaps the leading battleground in the debate over how to deal with illegal immigration. Lawmakers point to the recent murder of an Arizona rancher as illustrative of the need for tougher immigration laws.

The legislation makes it a state crime to be in the United States illegally. Police can ask anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally to show a driver’s license or state identification. If they do not, they can be jailed, fined or deported.

Sen. John McCain, who has been a supporter of open borders and illegal alien amnesty, has suddenly taken a different stance following Krentz’s murder.

From NY Daily News, John McCain: Illegal immigrants are intentionally causing car accidents:

For most lawmakers, DWI stands for “driving while intoxicated.” For Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), DWI stands for “driving while illegal.”

In an appearance on “The O’Reilly Factor” on Tuesday Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that illegal immigrants were intentionally causing car accidents along state freeways.

The subject came up when he defended the tough new Arizona immigration bill against the possibility of racial profiling.

McCain told Bill O’Reilly that while he’d be “very sorry” if a Hispanic person suffered the indignity of racial profiling, the law would punish illegal wrongdoers.

“It’s the people whose homes and property are being violated,” he said. “It’s the drive-by that — the drivers of cars with illegals in it that are intentionally causing accidents on the freeway.”

McCain mentioned Robert Krantz, an Arizona cattle rancher who was recently gunned down with his dog. Police believe his killer was an illegal immigrant.

“The state of Arizona is acting and doing what they feel they need to do in light of the fact that the federal government is not fulfilling its fundamental responsibility to secure our borders,” McCain told O’Reilly.

JD Hayworth, a GOP leading contender against McCain in the fall senate race, says McCain’s stance is a gimmick…Phoenix News, J.D. Hayworth Calls John McCain’s Immigration Plan “Election Year Gimmick”:

Earlier today, Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl released a 10-point plan to combat crime along the U.S./Mexico border, which — among other things — includes hiring 3,000 more Customs and Border Protection agents for Arizona, building new fences along the state’s southern border, and increasing aerial surveillance.

McCain’s opponent in the GOP primary for Senate, former Congressman J.D. Hayworth, feels that McCain is just another Johnny-come-lately in the fight to secure the border and calls McCain’s plan an “election year gimmick.”

MSNBC’s First Read also reports:

The AP writes, “Republican Sen. John McCain, who once championed a path to citizenship for the nation’s roughly 12 million undocumented immigrants, is now pushing for a crackdown on illegals amid the toughest re-election fight of his career. McCain’s hardline stance on immigration comes in the face of a credible GOP primary challenger, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, and the possibility that the party’s 2008 presidential nominee could lose his Senate seat because many conservatives don’t consider him one of their own. Engaged in a fierce contest with the tea party-backed Hayworth, McCain has moved to the right on numerous issues, including gay rights and climate change, and disavowed his long-standing maverick label.”

The violent business of kidnapping is not new in Mexico, but it is growing and has been expanding in the US border states. The following news report videos on Mexico’s kidnappings are the most recent I could locate on YouTube, which are at least one year old.

  1. AFVET says:

McCain and Kyl release a ten point plan ?
Just more and more political crap.
Your gov. has the right idea.
We don’t need no stinking ten point system.
Obamas rhetoric is becoming obvious to the informed electorate.
Only the unfortunate, non-informed individuals will be ‘surprised’ to see his regime go down.
