Light Posting Today… My Dad Russ
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on April 30, 2010
Regular readers will recall I’ve written a few times about my dear dad, Russ. He’s been a major force in my life, helping to instill in me my love of God, of country and our founding fathers, of Ronald Reagan, of free market principles, of working hard, of logic, of family. I was a young rebel for some years, registering as a Democrat and some other things I’d prefer to forget, but I finally wised up.
Late afternoon yesterday, Dad had a heart attack, and to make a very long, scary story short — following a rush to the emergency room, nitro drip and other medical miracles, and a procedure today to install two stents — he is doing a heck of a lot better now than he was yesterday. We were at the hospital until after midnight. He’s still in the ICU, but may be moved to another part of the hospital tonight. The fear that gripped me yesterday through this morning hasn’t quite left. Things did NOT look good, so being able to write about this remarkable improvement in his condition is making me nearly giddy.
God answered my prayers… I’m not ready yet for Dad to leave, nor is he. He’s still a pistol… reminded me of Reagan cracking jokes with the doctors after his assassination attempt. Dad did the same thing with me last night. The jokes were pretty corny, but I embraced them. And while he wouldn’t let me give the whole sappy speech I had prepared in head while fighting tears behind the wheel on the freeway on my way to the hospital, he let me say enough so that he knows how much I love him. How I appreciate the important role he has had in making me the wife, mother, sister, friend, worker, patriot I am. He said, “I’m really proud of what you do and how you turned out.” Wow. He actually said that. That means more to me than rubies or pearls.
Light posting for the next couple of days — will be, as much as possible, with my dear Dad.
Whose birthday just happens to be on February 6, the same as Ronald Reagan’s.

God bless your Dad, Vicki. A speedy recovery to him.
