Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon is teaming up with Rev. Al Sharpton to protest today against enforcing the illegal immigration law.

That’s just peachy, Phil.

Mayor Gordon has been a supporter of illegal aliens and against illegal immigration laws, working with the activist group La Raza, for quite some time. He tried last week to sue the state because of SB1070, but was told he could not as an elected official, only as a private citizen. Unable to gain support from the city council, he is now working side by side with Mr. Race-baiter himself, Rev. Sharpton.

Wonder what legitimate mayoral duties Gordon is neglecting for Phoenix citizens to protest the state’s desire to enforce illegal immigration laws?

Despite Gordon’s and other politicians’, entertainers’, and sports figures’ efforts to vilify Arizona for its new state law to crack down on illegal immigration, the majority of Arizonans — and of Americans — still favor the law allowing law enforcement to ask those suspected of other infractions (expired auto tags, burned out headlight) or crimes, or who are involved in questionable behavior, about their immigration status — 60 percent.

Only 25 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of those who are protesting in support of illegal immigration.

Following weekend protests against the new Arizona law cracking down on illegal immigration, support for the Arizona policy remains unchanged.

However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 25% have a favorable view of those who marched and protested for immigrant rights in major cities. Fifty percent (50%) hold an unfavorable opinion and another 26% are not sure.

PHOENIX — The Rev. Al Sharpton, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and Hispanic leaders will lead a Wednesday evening march to the Arizona State Capitol in a protest against the state’s new law targeting illegal immigration.

Organizers plan a gathering at a church near downtown Phoenix and then a three-mile candlelight procession to the Capitol. Participants will then join a vigil at the Capitol in protest of the new law.

The law’s provisions include a requirement that state and local law enforcement officers question people about their immigration status if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the country illegally. It also makes it a state crime to be in the United States illegally.

From Avvo, Phoenix Mayor Told He Can’t Challenge Arizona Immigration Law:

The mayor of Phoenix’s attempt to challenge Arizona’s controversial immigration law didn’t make it very far.

Mayor Phil Gordon tried to file a lawsuit to stop the new law, which requires police to question the immigration status of people they suspect are in the country illegally, but he can’t start a suit without the support of the city council, according to the Associated Press.

Gordon had attempted to gain the backing of the city council and when he could not, he claimed he could file the lawsuit anyway. However, city attorney Gary Verburg said that the city council has the sole authority to undertake such an action.

“I just don’t think we should be dragging the city of Phoenix and the taxpayers into this when they say they don’t want us to file a lawsuit,” city council member Sal DiCiccio told the news source.
