Kalamazoo Central Students, What’s Your Citizenship Status? Background Checks Being Run on Entire Senior Class Before Obama Shows Up to Speak at Commencement Ceremony

Pres. Obama objects to police in the state of Arizona being empowered to inquire about the citizenship status of people who are stopped for traffic violations or other valid reasons. The police will inquire on immigration status only if there is reasonable suspicion that they may be in the country illegally. But POTUS has no qualms whatsoever running background checks and looking into the citizenship of all the high school seniors at Kalamazoo Central High in Michigan.
With NO reasonable suspicion, no crumb of suspicion of any kind to investigate the backgrounds of hundreds of pimply, giddy teenagers. Even more astonishing is that the school was chosen by Obama from more than 1,000 applicant schools for the opportunity to have him speak at their high school commencement.
The final selection of K-Central was based on the school’s “commitment to academic excellence and their success in graduating students prepared for college or a career.” So these are good kids for the most part, and a good public school. Not radical, not troubled — worthy to be chosen by the president. The background check into the kids’ immigration/citizenship status seems like dramatic overkill and, dare I say it, contrived.
“Do as vee say, not as vee do. Vee vant you to show us your papers.”
What will our Commander in Chief do if the Secret Service determines that one or more of the graduating students are illegal aliens?
Probably rhymes with “snuthing.”

KALAMAZOO — The White House appears to be laying the groundwork for President Barack Obama to shake the hand of each senior at Kalamazoo Central High School’s commencement ceremony next month.
Seniors are being asked to provide their birthdates, Social Security numbers and citizen status to the Secret Service so background checks could be performed. Such a check is required for anyone who gets within an arm’s length of the president, students were told at their senior breakfast Friday.
“For anyone who gets within an arm’s length of the president.” Now, that’s not really true, is it?

Doubt the Salahis had any kind of background or citizenship check conducted last fall that resembles what the Kalamazoo Central students are being subjected to for Obama’s big grad speech. And the Salahis were on the fringes of a second party crash this week, during the state dinner with Mexico’s president. Hmm…

K-Central found out May 4 that the school won a national competition, for which the school submitted a video, that will bring Obama to its commencement as graduation speaker. The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. June 7 at Western Michigan University’s basketball arena.
K-Central seniors also were told Friday that graduation tickets will come from the White House, and the tickets will have bar codes to heighten accountability and prevent them from being sold. “Any irregularities can be traced back to the student who was given the ticket,” Boehme said.
Kalamazoo Public Schools spokesman Alex Lee said Sunday that creating a ticket system is a top priority for district officials and the White House right now. “But I’m not sure what that will look like,” Lee said.
No word on the consequences of “ticket irregularities.”

The city of Kalamazoo deserved the honor of having President Obama speak at Kalamazoo Central’s commencement. Deemed as a ‘cool’ city by Michigan’s Governor, it’s a progressive forward thinking community. The Kalamazoo Promise that insured school aged kids in the public school system a college education certainly helped put them over the top for the challenge. I am proud to say I am a resident in Kalamazoo. Even though I don’t have children in the school system, I have friends who are alumni and they have expressed their pride as well.
I agree with you, as I wrote. The school was chosen over many others for this honor – exemplary performance from these young people. They should be proud of their accomplishments.
But the point made was that IDs, citizenship verification, and background checks were required of these stellar teens, yet in other arenas in our country (illegal immigration is just one) requiring IDs or checks into one’s background by police when conducting their normal inquiries during a law infraction are considered violation of rights by leftist groups. Additionally, the couple who crashed into the White House dinner were not asked for IDs. I don’t believe similar citizenship checks are required of attendees at other functions that Obama speaks at, although I could be wrong.
I was pointing out a bizarre double standard that was being exercised against these students. I have nothing but admiration for the students.
The buzz that was generated from the news that Kalamazoo Central High School was one of the top 10 schools selected for the competition was an incredible boost for the community. In addition, a much needed shot in the arm for the economically challenged state of Michigan. No matter your part affiliation, this is a big deal for the students…in particular, the class of 2010 at KCHS. A well deserved privilege for those involved
