Google home page automatically changing background image today
Fun stuff today on Google’s home page… artwork of Jeff Koons, Tom Otterness, Dale Chihuly, and others are occupying the normally stark, background-free search engine main page. Background images, either from the pre-selected artists or from a personal image collection, are now offered to Google users to change the home page look.

If you haven’t heard of Jeff Koons yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. Hailing from Dover, the New York City resident took the art scene by storm with his giant reproductions of normal objects, such as a balloon animal or a heart.
The brightly colored images have brought him national acclaim, and he was recently honored during the Pennsylvania Governor’s Awards for the Arts in York.
Check out www.google.com and get a glimpse of some of his creations. Don’t miss Paris’ 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race Saturday and Sunday, in which Koons created a multicolored design for a BMW M3 GT2.
Started in 1923, Le Mans is one of the most famous international endurance races. It’s as much a sporting event as a cultural event: Steve McQueen made a movie about it, Paul Newman competed and Luc Besson used the track as a film set.

What’s this? Did Microsoft buy Google and transform it into Bing overnight? Nope. That’s just the new Google.com background image feature that we told you about last week. Google has rolled the feature out worldwide, and is celebrating by cycling through a number of colorful images.
Google has selected images from Dale Chihuly, Jeff Koons, Tom Otterness, Polly Apfelbaum, Kengo Kuma, Kwon, Ki-soo, and Tord Boontje to really push the idea of background images.

Thanks to Google, it could now be a tranquil lily pond complete with floating ceramic sculptures by Dale Chihuly or Jeff Koons’ celebrated giant half inflated metallic modelling balloons. Google recently launched a facility to allow users to customize their backgrounds however, presumably take-up was slow as today the world’s biggest search engine is taking things a little further, and for 24 hours is featuring a background image by default on its homepage, even for users who haven’t activated the new feature.
So far so geek, but what’s really interesting is that on average, there are more than 121 million searches per hour on Google, so each image in the rotating deck has the potential to be seen by more people than visit the Louvre in 21-a-a-bit years.

Remember that catchy user-generated Microsoft jingle, “Bing Goes the Internet?” Well, there may be more than a little truth to that sentiment. Google has been feeling some heat in the search space thanks to Bing and has begun adjusting certain aspects of its service accordingly. The latest such change is the addition of art to its stark-white homepage.
Now don’t get us wrong, Google is still content to maintain its trademark rabbit-in-a-snowstorm as the default background. But should users be in the mood for something a little more, shall we say, Bingy, the company is allowing people to upload their own photo as the Google homepage.

From this week, Google has included Google background image to its services which allows users to change the browser’s main page’s background with Google images with a collection of snapshots by artists like Jeff Koons, Kengo Kuma, Yann Arthus-Bertrand or the prestigious National Geographic publication or personal images.
To change the look of the home page, just click on the link located at the bottom left of the page that says ‘Change background image.’ In the box that appears, then, you can choose from a series of images, or use a personal album from Picasa.
