The political clowns in Washington have again overpaid unemployment benefits, nearly doubling last year's overpayments
For cryin’ out loud… Tell me again why these political clowns in Washington, DC think they can intelligently, efficiently run government-mandated healthcare for the entire nation…
The government is blaming increased fraud for the near-doubling of unemployment overpayments. Like THAT won’t ever happen with ObamaCare.
How’s that “hopenchange” workin’ for ya?
ABC News reports… Labor Dept. Estimates $7.1 Billion in Overpayments to Unemployed – Overpayment Figure Increases From $4.2 Billion the Previous Year:
While many Americans are feeling the pain of expired unemployment benefits, some have gotten a good chunk more than they were legally eligible for.
Preliminary estimates released by the U.S. Department of Labor find that, in 2009, states made more than $7.1 billion in overpayments in unemployment insurance, up from $4.2 billion the year before. The total amount of unemployment benefits paid in 2009 was $76.8 billion, compared to $41.6 billion in 2008.
Fraud accounted for $1.55 billion in estimated overpayments last year, while errors by state agencies were blamed for $2.27 billion, according to the Labor Department. The department’s final report will be released next month.
Some of the overpayments likely can be traced back to the overwhelming workloads facing state employment agencies during the recession, said George Wentworth, a policy analyst for the National Employment Law Project.
“You’ve got a system that’s been under siege like the unemployment insurance system has been for the last two years,” Wentworth said. “You’ve got a lot of new staff coming into the system, there’s been a lot of federal extensions [to unemployment insurance benefits] that have had to be programmed in and so on. There’s just been a lot of change that states have had to handle. … I just think the volume and the new staff have made the systems more susceptible to error.”
I wrote this a year ago about Team Obama’s grotesque screw-ups and mispayments of recovery/stimulus money… dead people were delighted for the unexpected government handouts…

Again, the utter incompetence of our government sending recovery/stimulus money to the right people has been reported by the Associated Press. More than 10,000 dead people have received money from the government. And thousands who need the money, are indeed eligible, are not getting any help.
And we want these clowns in charge of our HEALTH CARE? And running American businesses? And selling American cars? Why on earth would we think they could do those better with no experience or education whatsoever? They’ve had decades to go to the most illustrious Ivy League universities, recruit and groom the “brightest and best,” and have had umpteen years to fine tune how to correctly budget our nation’s economy and correctly send the correct amount of money to taxpayers and Social Security recipients. Living ones, not dead ones.
But they keep botching it up. And overspending. And turning Social Security and Medicare into a pathetic, amateurish mess. And increasing our nation’s debt. Would it take four or more additional decades of sloppy management of health care before Obama’s team started to get that right, too?
Good grief, maybe soliciting recruits from a clown college for Obama’s administration on sending out stimulus money would be the wiser choice. Heck, real clowns couldn’t do any worse than these bureaucratic clowns have done. And Democrats can’t blame this latest financial blunder on former Pres. Bush (although, I’m sure they’ll try).
With experience, mistakes typically lessen. With the Obama administration, they increase.

I’ve been aware of the government checking on a number of my posts for quite a while now – it’s creepy. Orwell merely got the year wrong… but I won’t be bullied, nor will other concerned patriots.

I agree – I did not expect TSA to back down so quickly. Makes me a bit suspicious, if you know what I mean.
Regarding your question about “being looked in on” by government: I sometimes check in on my SiteMeter, which provides me with a “real time” visitor’s log snapshot of who’s currently on the site and what post(s) they’re reading. It’s unsettling to see how many times, when I just pop in for a few moments to scan it over, how many government visits are currently in session.
In all fairness, I haven’t a clue as to who is at the computer/keyboard, so it could just be a clerk or admin assistant who works in DC. Or it could be Big Brother or Big Sis or even Big Witch, Nancy Pelosi… I really don’t know. But it is indeed creepy.
I’ve taken a number of screenshots and written about them in a few previous posts. Some are from doj.gov, senate.gov, house.gov, or various other federal agencies or state departments from across the country.
P.S. I’ve not been “spanked” yet… time will tell. There are much bigger fish out there, so I may be just an inconvenience. Michelle Malkin, Jim Hoft, Matt Drudge, Andrew Breitbart, Allahpundit, AOFHQ, Pam Geller, Jim Treacher, everyone at RedState and Breitbart’s “Big” sites… these are the influential conservative bloggers who have the mondo-sized readership. Malkin’s readership in an hour or two is mine for the entire month. (Sad, but true – but I’m OK with that).
Why am I not surprised that Obama can’t even get paying unemployment benefits right? Overpaid by BILLIONS – what an idiot.
This is what happens when an ignorant populace votes for a community organizer with no experience and a mysterious past. It ain’t the same kind of wonderful prize in Cracker Jack these days like it was back 40 years ago.
I have never been so determined to vote and vote often in November (I’m just kidding about the second part – I don’t know anyone in ACORN or the Democrat Party that can help me with voter fraud).
If they shut down websites, we will find a workaround. We are an ingenious breed and we will hold our own.

With the removal of the “controversial opinions” ban, this tiny Internet takeover “trial balloon” let the government know America is paying attention. And you’re right, SH, this IS serious business. Internet censorship is alive and well in the oppressed nations of Venezuela, China, Cuba… all of Obama’s favorite despots. Radio, television, and newspapers are also watched by their governments. America’s First Amendment rights are in the crosshairs.
We must all stay vigilant and jump fast to action when we hear of these things. The “WH/media spin” will always be some unicorns-and-glitter kind of double-speak garbage (the rhetoric is honed to deliberately camouflage what they’re doing and it will be repeated in the left-wing media with big smiles and bobbing heads). Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals on steroids, boys and girls. They want Michelle Malkin and Matt Drudge and RedState silenced, they want Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity off the air. They want FOX News to fail… which it isn’t, much to their chagrin. CNN has lost 65% of its viewers in the past year – of the majors, only FOX has had a substantial increase in viewership.
