Bullets Ban: Team Obama’s EPA Now Trying to Ban All Traditional Ammo to Save the Planet, or Something Like That (video) – Update: EPA Backs Down, Back-Pedals on Ban

While the Second Amendment, and a recent US Supreme Court ruling, guarantees American citizens the right to bear arms, a whole heck of a lot of good that does when Team Obama is now trying to ban ammo.
While a majority of Americans knew Obama would intrude on their constitutional rights, few likely imagined that it would manifest itself in the EPA (under the direction of POTUS) considering outlawing traditional ammunition all in the name of “saving the planet.”
Or, something vague like that. Even though there is NO scientific evidence of any significant danger to the environment or humans as a result of lead in bullets.
It’s all a ruse, boys and girls. A liberal, lie-infested ruse.
Try using that Second Amendment-protected hand gun without any freakin’ bullets, you Constitution-hugging, unwashed peasants.
Should this ill-conceived ban on bullets be enacted, only the criminals will have bullets. We saw what a horrific failure Chicago’s gun ban had on law-abiding citizens. Violent crimes escalated, because scumbag thugs don’t abide by rules and when they know law-abiding citizens can’t protect themselves, they become cockier, more violent predators.
A feared Obama-mandated increase on ammo taxes was the word in the wind last year… now, it’s shifted to the EPA wanting to vilify and ban all traditional bullets.
Including those used by hunters and target shooters.
Crikey, I’m sick to death of this statist administration. Take action now, patriots.
H/t to VotingFemale, Obama, ala EPA head Lisa Jackson, takes action to make ammo illegal… this from the NSSF, EPA Considering Ban on Traditional Ammunition — Take Action Now:
With the fall hunting season fast approaching, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Lisa Jackson, who was responsible for banning bear hunting in New Jersey, is now considering a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) – a leading anti-hunting organization – to ban all traditional ammunition under the Toxic Substance Control Act of 1976, a law in which Congress expressly exempted ammunition. If the EPA approves the petition, the result will be a total ban on all ammunition containing lead-core components, including hunting and target-shooting rounds. The EPA must decide to accept or reject this petition by November 1, 2010, the day before the midterm elections.
Today, the EPA has opened to public comment the CBD petition. The comment period ends on October 31, 2010.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) — the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry — urges you to submit comment to the EPA opposing any ban on traditional ammunition. Remember, your right to choose the ammunition you hunt and shoot with is at stake.
The EPA has published the petition and relevant supplemental information as Docket ID: EPA-HQ-OPPT-2010-0681. If you would like to read the original petition and see the contents of this docket folder, please click here. In order to go directly to the ‘submit a comment’ page for this docket number, please click here.
NSSF urges you to stress the following in your opposition:
* There is no scientific evidence that the use of traditional ammunition is having an adverse impact on wildlife populations.
* Wildlife management is the proper jurisdiction of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the 50 state wildlife agencies.
* A 2008 study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on blood lead levels of North Dakota hunters confirmed that consuming game harvested with traditional ammunition does not pose a human health risk.
* A ban on traditional ammunition would have a negative impact on wildlife conservation. The federal excise tax that manufacturers pay on the sale of the ammunition (11 percent) is a primary source of wildlife conservation funding. The bald eagle’s recovery, considered to be a great conservation success story, was made possible and funded by hunters using traditional ammunition – the very ammunition organizations like the CBD are now demonizing.
* Recent statistics from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service show that from 1981 to 2006 the number of breeding pairs of bald eagles in the United States increased 724 percent. And much like the bald eagle, raptor populations throughout the United States are soaring.

November is coming.
Allahpundit at Hot Air gives his two cents on the proposed ammo ban…
Hey, if air is an environmental hazard worthy of federal regulation, surely bullets are too, no?
I could sit here for a week and not come up with an issue more likely to make already vulnerable House Dems wet themselves than this one, assuming that the EPA acts on it. Which, I’m guessing, they won’t.

Here’s the site where you can read the official petition, leave a comment, etc. The date the comment period ends? Two days before the midterms. Worst-case scenario here: The EPA announces the ban, thereby instantly causing a stampede of Blue Dogs from rural districts down Pennsylvania Avenue so that they can pass a bill overriding it.
From Bunkerville, Environmental Protection Agency going to ban ammunition? Best gun control yet:
There has been a marked shortage of ammo that us gun owners have been dealing with for a some time. The reason why has not been determined, but I have some ideas. There is a shortage of Ammo, as well as reloading shell supplies for those that load their own. Clearly, if the Government cannot control and confiscate our weapons, the next step is controlling ammo.
A gun without a shell is useless.
Video encore… a few videos I posted last year on the ammo shortage that started in 2009.

UPDATE, August 31, 2010… EPA back-pedals:
reported by Hot Air: EPA on lead-ammunition ban: Never mind:
Not that this was going anywhere anyway, but someone at the EPA must have gotten a few phone calls about their open comment period on this truly screwy idea from either the White House, Congressional leadership, or perhaps both. Just two days ago, the EPA announced that they would take comments until the end of October as to whether they agreed that lead-based ammunition and fishing sinkers amounted to such a dire threat to the environment that the EPA should ban both. Looks like they heard enough comments, at least on ammunition…
It is an important victory, mainly from the EPA’s own admission that ammunition is outside their jurisdictional reach. Otherwise, this just brings an issue to the end it inevitably faced sooner or later. Had the EPA pursued this in this electoral cycle, they would have risked inspiring a bipartisan effort to defund the agency, which a Republican House may do anyway to stop enforcement of their ridiculous carbon-dioxide endangerment finding.
If the EPA actually thought this would make a great trial balloon, they found yet another use for lead.

If lead bullets were outlawed, imagine how many gun owners might be arrested using lead bullets purchased previously. Compare: In 1994, the U.S. Justice Department under Attorney General Janet Reno proposed introducing legislation that would allow U.S. Government “summary forfeiture\ of unregistered firearms. DOJ intended to eliminate government’s high costs of forfeiture proceedings required to confiscate guns (by baring gun owners from being able to prove) their confiscated weapons were legally registered or did not come under the “technical definition” of a gun that must be registered. A Government ban on lead bullets would bring gun owners to the same place. Also in 1994 the Justice Dept proposed gun legislation that included the words “premises containing illegal weapons” written like drug asset forfeiture laws. In less than 24-hours gun owners expressed concern those words “premises containing illegal weapons” would open the door for DOJ to criminally and civilly forfeit gun owners’ homes since most gun owners kept guns at home. Had that legislation passed, it is foreseeable Americans would be afraid to own guns or keep them in their house.
In 1994, a Congressman suggested forcing gun stores to sell only “biodegradable ammunition” with a 1-year shelf-life stating—in case of insurrection, ammunition accumulated by people would become useless within 1-year. Then someone pointed out, forcing biodegradable ammunition on the public would open the door for foreign black-market ammunition to be sold in the U.S. Obviously if Obama’s ban on lead bullets is approved, foreign black markets will develop in the U.S. for lead bullets; that will lead to police swat raids on homes for illegal bullets just like drug raids now out of control. It is foreseeable anyone caught with possession of lead bullets could lose their right to own a gun. Bullets made of any other metal could prove too expensive for most gun owners to purchase. It is obvious Obama by the backdoor—intends to disarm America taking Americans’ ammunition away.
Excellent points made, Ross. Another alternative would be plastic bullets. Unless, of course, in its zeal to rule everything, EPA decided to ban all plastics. Eco-nuts would rejoice.
The main problem with plastic bullets is that they would not show up on x-ray scans at airports, allowing an explosion (pun intended) of terrorists to board planes, unless everyone was physically searched, including your 87-year-old grandma… another dilemma for Team Obama.
