Quick assessment:
Team Obama and liberal Democrat cronies tried to prevent Chicago citizens from owning guns… the US Supreme Court (it wasn’t unanimous — all liberals on the bench were in favor of the gun ban) overruled in June the city’s gun ban law based on the Second Amendment (McDonald v. City of Chicago). So Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has enacted the most ridiculously strict gun control laws in the entire nation.
Team Obama and the EPA, via a petition submitted by the Center for Biological Diversity, suggested that there be a ban on common ammo (American citizens could own guns, but not legally own bullets), claiming the lead in the bullets would kill plants and animals… no scientific studies whatsoever exist to prove this statist claim and there was immediate outcry — the EPA denied the petition, so the “test balloon” against lead-bullet ammunition was let go. There has also been discussion about a huge tax or fee levied on Americans who do their own reloading of bullets — no word on where that idea is in the percolation process.
So the Democrats will try again. Now we have this scheduled Senate meeting on September 14 to discuss regulation of gun sales.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) of Americans say gun sales are up in the United States because of a fear of increased government restriction on gun ownership. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 23% say gun sales have risen because of a fear of increased crime. Twenty-one percent (21%) are not sure.

Sixty-three percent (63%) of men say the threat of more gun control is behind increased sales, compared to 51% of women. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of whites agree, while African-Americans are more closely divided on the question.
Similarly, 65% of Republicans and 66% of those not affiliated with either major political party say gun sales are up due to a fear of increased government restriction.
It never ends with these Constitution-hating clowns in DC. This scheduled hearing has the distinctively foul odor of smelling like yet another effort by the federal government to dismantle, infringe upon, and nullify the Second Amendment — I could be wrong, but based on the track record and anti-gun stance of this administration, that doesn’t seem likely.
