3,000 Schools Participating in Today’s Pro-Life Day, A Day of Silence: Students Against Abortion May Face Ridicule, Teachers May Force Them to Turn Pro-Life Shirts Inside Out (video)

It’s highly doubtful that statist Democrats in Congress, SCOTUS leftist radical Elena Kagan, or disgraced hypocrite Rep. Bart Stupak who pushed for ObamaCare will be participating in today’s Pro-Life Day.

Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity 2010

Reported by The Christian Post, Students Celebrate Pro-Life Day, Mindful of Rights:

Students at over 3,000 schools in 29 countries are participating in a 24-hour period of silence Tuesday to remember the 50 million unborn children that have been aborted since 1973.

As Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity commences, the Alliance Defense Fund says it is committed to defending U.S. students who may be harassed during the quiet demonstration.

Pro-Life Day founder Bryan Kemper says the day is traditionally about kids expressing their solidarity with the pro-life movement.

“This is their way to participate in the pro-life movement,” he said.

Students typically wear arm bands or a strip of red duct tape over their mouths. Pro-life T-shirts and fliers are also passed out and booths are set up at schools during the annual day.

“We encourage kids to be creative,” said Kemper.

However, retaliation has also become a part of the tradition. Students bearing taped mouths have sometimes had to endure ridicule, torment and insults from fellow students. Kemper says some students can expect to be censored by teachers and school administrators.

“Yes, a lot of public schools will try to take away students rights,” he said, noting that he has heard of students being remanded detention or even sent home.

“Many students have been told to turn their pro-life shirts inside out,” he added.

ADF Senior Counsel David Cortman says he has heard of similar infringements.

“In several cases, students were prohibited from passing out pro-life fliers, from wearing arm bands, from wearing the pro-life shirts,” he said.

The Christian legal firm has an intake system to take students’ calls and has published a letter online reminding students of their rights.

“It’s important that students know that the [U.S.] Supreme Court ruled 40 years ago that their freedom of speech accompanies them to school,” said Cortman.

The possibility of legal trouble has not dampened the spirit of the day. Kemper’s event page has over 40,000 members. Several have commented on the page’s wall with their plans for the day.

One person writes, “This is my first year wearing the tape on my mouth. I just hope that I won’t get into too much trouble with my middle school teachers.”

Another wrote, “I am wearing the red tape on my mouth while attending my two university lectures at an 80 percent pro-choice populated school. Wish me luck!”

Kempt says the silent holiday is making an impact on those considering an abortion.

Posted yesterday at Conservative Christian News, Silence Will Rock Thousands of Campuses Tomorrow While Students Protest Abortion as Part of the 7th Annual Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity:

The Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity, a project of Stand True, Christ-Centered Pro-life is observed by hundreds of thousands of students who will lose their voice in solidarity with their brothers and sisters who will never have a voice. Last year Stand True heard back from participants over 80 girls who canceled their abortions on the day of the event due to the efforts of the students.

“By refusing to speak the students create a huge buzz and abortion will be the most talked about subject on campus,” said Bryan Kemper, President of Stand True Ministries. “This generation is fed up with the senseless violence of abortion as is determined to bring an end the abortion holocaust.”

Students will not only remain silent; they will also wear red armbands and/or red duct tape on their mouths, and distribute educational flyers to anyone who asks why they are silent. Many home-schooled students will also participate in the event by visiting local malls and other public areas to distribute flyers. Students are instructed to be respectful to teachers and other officials and to speak with them when required.

“Students for Life is proud to co-sponsor the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity. It is critical that we, the pro-life generation, take a stand for Life in our society, and I can think of no better way than standing in silent solidarity with the millions of pre-born Americans who do not have a voice. We stand in silent solidarity with them so that through our silence, they may have a voice.”

From last month, posted at LifeNews, Pelosi Says Pro-Abortion Democrats Will “Absolutely” Keep House After Elections:

To hear pro-abortion House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tell it, she believes her pro-abortion colleagues will absolutely keep the House of Representatives following a 2010 general election that appears as if it will produce a landslide for pro-life candidates.

Republicans and political pundits say there is an outside chance the GOP will win back control of Congress from President Barack Obama’s political allies.

The following transcript and video are from a Hot Air posting back in August 2008 — long before Barack H. Obama was elected and inaugurated, long before the Democrats’ oppressive, trillion-dollar, abortion-funding ObamaCare was forced down America’s collective throat… Pelosi lies about Catholicism and abortion:

I’m always astounded as to the extent of deception in which pro-choice Catholics indulge themselves, both inwardly and outwardly, to justify their positions. Perhaps there is no balder example of this than Nancy Pelosi attempting to spin the Catholic doctrine on human life today on Meet the Press. Pelosi argues that the Catholic position on human life only developed in the last 50 years and that it doesn’t impact abortion in any case:

REP. PELOSI: I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. And Senator–St. Augustine said at three months. We don’t know. The point is, is that it shouldn’t have an impact on the woman’s right to choose. Roe v. Wade talks about very clear definitions of when the child–first trimester, certain considerations; second trimester; not so third trimester. There’s very clear distinctions. This isn’t about abortion on demand, it’s about a careful, careful consideration of all factors and–to–that a woman has to make with her doctor and her god. And so I don’t think anybody can tell you when life begins, human life begins. As I say, the Catholic Church for centuries has been discussing this, and there are those who’ve decided…

MR. BROKAW: The Catholic Church at the moment feels very strongly that it…

REP. PELOSI: I understand that.

MR. BROKAW: …begins at the point of conception.

REP. PELOSI: I understand. And this is like maybe 50 years or something like that. So again, over the history of the church, this is an issue of controversy. But it is, it is also true that God has given us, each of us, a free will and a responsibility to answer for our actions. And we want abortions to be safe, rare, and reduce the number of abortions. That’s why we have this fight in Congress over contraception. My Republican colleagues do not support contraception. If you want to reduce the number of abortions, and we all do, we must–it would behoove you to support family planning and, and contraception, you would think. But that is not the case. So we have to take–you know, we have to handle this as respectfully–this is sacred ground. We have to handle it very respectfully and not politicize it, as it has been–and I’m not saying Rick Warren did, because I don’t think he did, but others will try to.

The notion that the Catholic Church declared abortion a sin at the same time as the Pill is patently absurd, and shows that Pelosi has either lied about studying the issue in terms of Church history or lied about what she found.

[...]

The Catholic catechism is extremely clear on the nature of its position on human life, and has been remarkably consistent on this point for almost 2,000 years, and it finds that position in the Old Testament. Human life begins at conception, not at birth, and not at some point consistent with Roe for convenience. In Psalm 51, David refers to his sinfulness beginning at the moment of conception, and sinfulness requires physical life and a soul to exist.

Pelosi isn’t the only Catholic with a habit of self-deception or flat-out dishonesty on this topic; Joe Biden also falls into this category. Douglas Kmiec shifted his support from Mitt Romney to Barack Obama, and as John McCormack points out at the Weekly Standard, he did so by claiming abortion to be one of many issues that Catholics must consider as part of their faith when voting. I addressed that thinking in an earlier post, but I’ll recap it by noting that the Church urges people to address “sinful” inequalities but does not demand any particular strategy for that purpose. It does, however, make abortion — even formal facilitation of abortion — an instantly excommunicating act.

“God has given us, each of us, a free will and a responsibility to answer for our actions.” I wonder if Pelosi really understands what she’s saying. She’s right in that some day we will all have to answer to God for our actions, and so will she. I’m just not so sure that it’s going to be like she thinks.
