Frightening Islamic Terrorist Attack Attempt: Cargo Flight from Yemen to Chicago Stopped with Potential “Dry Run” Bomb, Suspicious Packages Sent to Synagogue (video)
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on October 29, 2010
Another thwarted Islamic terrorist attack coming to America, or perhaps the thwarting of a practice “dry run” Islamic terrorist attack.
Either way, the suspicious packages that were intercepted — from a cargo flight originating from Yemen and headed for a Chicago synagogue, but stopped in London — were being sent from a Muslim country overrun by al Qaeda terrorists, members of the “religion of peace and tolerance.”
This is the second news-reported Islamic attack on America this week that has mercifully been stopped.
Earlier this week, Farooque Ahmed, a Muslim Pakistani-American terrorist in Virginia, was arrested for his involvement coordinating with undercover agents for the plotting of bombing Washington DC Metro trains. Ahmed thought he was working with al Qaeda.

From MyFoxDetroit, UPS Flight From Yemen to Chicago Stopped With Bomb: Report:
Synagogues in Chicago were put on alert Friday after suspicious packages shipped from Yemen to Chicago religious institutions spurred an international response, although they tested negative for explosive material.
A U.S. official said authorities were investigating whether the string of suspicious packages was a dry run for a plot to send bombs through the mail.
Meanwhile, FBI spokesman Ross Rice says two of the suspicious packages found on cargo planes bound for the U.S. were addressed to “religious institutions” in Chicago. One was a synagogue, said a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation.
U.K. officials discovered that a toner cartridge on a UPS cargo plane bound Chicago for had been manipulated and found wires attached to it and white powder. The plane was stopped in London. Tests on the device came back negative for explosives, according to a law enforcement official who also spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the investigation.
Rice says there are no identifiable or specific threats to the Chicago area, but since two of the suspicious packages were addressed to religious institutions in Chicago, he says all churches, synagogues and mosques in the area should be vigilant.
The nature of the packages was not immediately known.
Rice said religious institutions should be watchful for unsolicited or unexpected packages from overseas locations.
From Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Obama told of ‘potential terrorist threat’:
The White House says President Barack Obama was notified about a potential terrorist threat after suspicious packages were discovered aboard two airplanes bound for the U.S.
No explosives have been found. A U.S. official says authorities are investigating whether the packages may be a dry run for a plot to send bombs through the mail.
A suspicious package containing a toner cartridge with wires and powder was found during routine screening of cargo in the United Kingdom, prompting authorities to scour three planes and a truck in the United States on Friday.
Searches were conducted in Philadelphia, Newark, N.J., and New York City. All the packages believed to be suspicious came from Yemen and were being sent via UPS.
Yemen is the home of the al-Qaida branch that claimed responsibility for an attempted bombing of a U.S.-bound airliner on Christmas.
From NY Times, Explosives Found in Cargo, Obama Says:
Two Air Force F-15 warplanes escorted a civilian passenger plane from the United Arab Emirates into John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, as President Obama prepared to speak to reporters about a widening investigation into suspicious packages shipped to the United States by air from Yemen.
The rare military escort for a civilian flight heightened the drama of the still unfolding terrorism investigation, as officials isolated cargo planes at two other American airports and searched a delivery truck in Brooklyn for packages said to have been sent from Yemen to addresses in the United States.
None of those packages proved to be dangerous, but officials in Dubai found one that contained explosive material, and another — the first one to be discovered, in Britain — contained a device that appeared similar to an improvised bomb but contained no explosives.
Cable news networks trained cameras on the skies over New York as the passenger jet, Emirates Flight 201, arrived and landed safely. An American military spokesman said that two Canadian CF-18 combat aircraft were diverted from a training mission to trail the flight across Canadian air space, and when it passed into American air space, two Air Force F-15 warplanes took over escort duties.
A federal law enforcement official said that the plane had a package on board that had originated in Yemen and had some characteristics suggesting that it might be related to the suspicious packages found in Britain and Dubai. The official was not clear about what that connection might be, but suggested that it would be something like a matching address.
While there was no indication that any passenger on board the plane posed a security risk, the official said, the Canadian military made the original decision to provide fighter jet escorts as a precaution, and the United States decided to follow suit.
From Gateway Pundit, Packages From Yemen Prompt Terror Investigation:
Dubai Authorities intercepted an explosive package bound for Chicago today.
The AP reported:Authorities in Dubai intercepted an explosive device bound for a Chicago-area Jewish institution aboard a cargo jet, officials disclosed Friday, triggering a worldwide alert and fears that al-Qaida was attempting to carry out fresh terror attacks.
A second package — like the first, shipped from Yemen — was discovered aboard a plane in England. It, too, was addressed to a Jewish organization in the Chicago area, although there was no immediate confirmation about its contents.
Several other cargo planes at airports along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States also were searched, and officials said no explosives were found. An Emirates Airlines passenger jet carrying cargo from Yemen was escorted from the Canadian border to New York City by two military fighter jets, U.S. officials said. They said it was a precautionary action.
President Barack Obama arranged to make a statement about the developments at the White House. Aides said he had been informed about a “potential terrorist threat.
Bomb found on Yemen to Chicago cargo flight in London
From CNN, U.S. says al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula behind cargo terror plot:
(CNN) — U.S. officials say that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, a fairly new arm of the umbrella terrorist organization, is behind an apparent plot to send explosive devices to U.S. destinations via cargo planes,.
“Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has been open in its venom toward the United States,” John Brennan, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official and an assistant to President Barack Obama, said Friday. “Not only are they intending to do certain things … they will in fact take steps to carry out those intentions.”
Brennan specifically pointed to the botched attempt last Christmas to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger jet en route from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Detroit, Michigan, on Christmas Day. U.S. and Yemeni officials have linked the attempt by man who tried to ignite explosives in his underwear to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
Formed in 2009, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is a regional terrorist group known for targeting government and Western interests in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Yemeni forces, with support from their U.S. allies, have stepped up military and political pressure on the group in recent weeks, despite continued threats from its leader.
A key figure in the group is Yemeni-American militant cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, whom U.S. authorities have linked to Fort Hood shooting suspect Maj. Nidal Hasan as well as the man accused in the Christmas Day bomb attempt.
A senior U.S. defense official called al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula a “sophisticated” organization.
Combating the terror group has been a major focus for U.S. counterterrorism authorities, with Friday’s incident underscoring the need for U.S. cooperation with Yemen, Obama said Friday.

UPDATE: EXPLOSIVE FOUND IN PLANE HEADED FOR US
Again I ask, how many are going to have to die before we can say jihad, let alone fight it or “discuss religious motivation" and reinvigorate the Bush Doctrine (you are either with us or against us)? The left doesn’t care how many Americans die — that's why they are the party of the jihad. Anyone who votes Democrat on Tuesday is declaring himself an enemy of America.
Yes, it’s country first, not party. And yes, Obama is very much a part of the problem.
This was no hoax, this was a dry run. Morphing air jihad — plant bombs in cargo on passenger planes.

From Michelle Malkin, Terror in the skies: UPS planes targeted; Updated:
Looks like there has been a coordinated attack on UPS planes worldwide today. Reports are breaking on a Yemen-Chicago plane stopped in London with a bomb on board. Planes also pulled over in Newark and Philadelphia.
Wild guess: It wasn’t planned by a Catholic or Mormon network. (Sarcasm off.)
