Heartbreak: Christina Taylor Greene, age 9, youngest victim in Tucson, AZ shooting - Westboro Baptist Church members have announced they will disrupt the girl's funeral

I’ve written about the Westboro Baptist Church before, and always feel like I need a hot, soapy shower once I’m done.

The hate-filled cultist group from Kansas, who call themselves the Westboro Baptist Church, have found that disrupting and picketing military funerals or the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards last month aren’t the only places they can spread their hate. Even better for getting their depraved jollies off, to gleefully torture grieving parents, and to be thrust back into the media spotlight is to picket a murdered child’s funeral. These media-whore sickos at Westboro have claimed that it was God who killed 9-year-old Christina Greene on Saturday because she was Catholic.

APPALLING.

Disgusting, cowardly pieces of human excrement. Some left-wing extremists and bloggers (you know who you liars are) have tried to falsely assert that this vile group is actually Christian and is part of the tea party movement — NO, IT ISN’T. IT IS NEITHER. It’s headed by an ultra-liberal, hate-spewing loony-toon who has run for office in the Democrat primaries in Kansas a number of times.

Church/cult leader Fred Phelps is a disbarred attorney, a demented Democrat extremist who has run for governor of Kansas three times, mayor of Topeka twice, and for the U.S. Senator once. While he never won any of the Democrat primaries, there actually were a few thousand liberal people in Kansas who voted for this anti-gay, anti-military fruitcake. He’s also a buddy from way back of Al Gore’s.

Arizona lawmakers have taken swift action this week, anticipating hate groups like Westboro Baptist Church protesting at the funerals of the Tucson victims, and just passed emergency legislature. Thankfully, it will go into effect before Christina’s and other shooting victims’ funerals.

From USA Today, Ariz. lawmakers OK ban on protests at funerals:

Heading off picketing of funerals for Tucson shooting victims, Arizona’s Legislature has unanimously passed emergency legislation outlawing protests at or near funeral sites, KPHO-TV reports.

Gov. Jan Brewer is expected to sign the bill, which would take effect immediately.

The move is aimed at stopping the fringe, anti-gay, Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., which said it would picket Thursday’s funeral for 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green. The small, fundamentalist congregation has picketed military funerals, calling the deaths God’s punishment for the nation’s tolerance of homosexuality.

Christina was one of the six people killed in the shooting Saturday that injured U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 13 others.

The bill, patterned after an Ohio law, establishes a 300-foot protection zone around a funeral from one hour before until one hour after, The Arizona Republic explains.

From NPR, ‘Angels’ Will Counter Westboro Baptist Protests At Arizona Victims’ Funerals:

Outraged at the news that members of the tiny Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., will try to get attention for their anti-abortion views by protesting outside the funerals of 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green and the five others killed in Saturday’s Arizona shooting rampage, people in Tucson and local lawmakers there are organizing to counter any such actions.

CNN reports that there are plans for an “angel action.” Volunteers will wear “8- by 10-foot ‘angel wings’ … to shield mourners from pickets.” The funerals begin Thursday.

Local news station ABC-15 adds that “Arizona Lawmakers are hoping some quick action Tuesday will [also] protect mourners from protesters.” Arizona State Representative Kyrsten Sinema has drafted legislation that would require any protesters to stay at least 300 feet away.

There are several Facebook pages up and running, including “Fight the Westboro Baptist Church in Tucson with Love,” where you can join others who object to Westboro Baptist’s plans.

Westboro Baptist, led by Fred Phelps, has been showing up in recent years at soldiers’ funerals and other high-profile services to push its views — and blame the deaths on America’s supposedly sin-driven society. It has even said “thank God for the shooter” in the Arizona tragedy.

From The Guardian, Tucson residents fight to keep extremists from child’s funeral:

Tucson residents and politicians are seeking to prevent members of a church notorious for its anti-gay and anti-Catholic views from disrupting Thursday’s funeral of a nine year-old victim of the shooting.

The Westboro Baptist church in Kansas praised Jared Lee Loughner for killing six people, including young Christina Taylor Green, right, and wounding 14 others. The church founder, Fred Phelps, posted a video in which he said: “Thank God for the violent shooter, one of your soldier heroes in Tucson. However many are dead, Westboro Baptist church will picket their funerals. We will remind the living you can still repent and obey.”

The church has gained notoriety for picketing funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and people who have died of Aids, all of which it says are a punishment for society’s tolerance of homosexuality.

The church also said of the Tucson shootings: “God hates Catholics.” Green’s family is Catholic.

But Arizona politicians are fast tracking legislation to keep church members 300 feet from the funerals while Tucson residents are planning ways to limit the protest.

The legislation was proposed by a state senator, Kyrsten Sinema, after she read about the Westboro chuch’s plans.

“It is the most disgusting thing I ever read in my entire life. I literally threw up after I read it … I’m like, ‘I’m gonna fix this’,” she told Fox News.

Tucson residents also plan to try and keep members of the Westboro church at bay.

Christin Gilmer has gathered more than 40 volunteers to wear 10 foot high angel wings and stand between the church members and the funeral.

A group of bikers says it will surround the church members.

The US supreme court last year upheld the right of members of Westboro church to protest at funerals. The case was brought by the father of a soldier killed in Iraq whose burial was disrupted.

From Babble, Westboro Baptist Church To Protest Funeral Of Christina Greene:

The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, has made its name protesting the funerals of people who died of AIDS, gay people, soldiers and even Coretta Scott King. The church recently announced its intention to picket the funeral of the 9-year-old girl, Greene, who lost her life in this tragic event.

But this time, people are putting their feet down. They’re planning an ”angel action” – with 8 by 10 foot “angel wings” worn by participants and used to shield mourners from pickets.

This is absolutely horrible. Something legal needs to be done to the Westboro Baptist Church.

From The Lonely Conservative, Sick Westboro Baptist Church Taking Protest to Arizona:

This is sick. Why isn’t the media blaming Jared Loughner’s criminal acts on Fred Phelps and his violent, hateful rhetoric? Phelps praises Loughner’s violent acts in this video, where he announces he will be taking his sick protest to the funerals of the victims of the Arizona shooting spree. He also refers to Loughner as an Afghanistan war veteran, even though initial reports of Loughner being a veteran turned out to be false.

I’ve not watched this disgusting video with Fred Phelps yet — I simply can’t bring myself to watch it today. You’ve been duly warned.

Fred Phelps Thanks God for the Shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

From The Powers That Be, Westboro Baptist Church Freaks as Predictably Sick as Ever; Media Sure to Continue to Falsely Label Them ‘Right Wing’:

Also, as the left is in their “blame the right” mood this week which will no doubt spill over into the criticism of the WBC whack-jobs protesting funerals, remember that the Phelps family are in fact Democrats from way back.

According to Newsbusters, Phelps Jr. has run as a Democrat for governor of Kansas three times, mayor of Topeka twice, and for the U.S. Senator once. He was an Al Gore delegate when Gore ran for president in ‘88 and was invited to the Clinton/Gore inaugurations in ‘93 and ‘97.

You won’t hear about that in the coming week as the media no doubt parrots the WBC as “extreme right wing” (paging Diane Sawyer) because it goes against the pre-written script for reporting about — and sick attempts to politically capitalize from — a horrible crime.

More community involvement to shield families from Westboro hate-mongers at funerals… God bless these bikers:

From MissouriNet, Patriot Guard bikers proud to block Westboro protesters at military funerals:

Missouri residents have staged several counter blocks in response to Fred Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church members that protest military funerals with their “God Hates Fags” mission statement.

The Missouri legislature tried to enact a law that makes protesting military funerals illegal. But the Supreme Court says the Westboro Baptist Church is exercising its right to freedom of speech under the First Amendment.

So, Missourians have staged counter protests to drown out church members who say military casualties are God’s payback for the United States’ acceptance of homosexuality.

L.T. Dobkins of Steelville is a biker with the Patriot Guard, which tries to protect veterans’ families from protesters.

“We do everything in a peaceful means,” Dobkins says. “We stand and cover them up with American flags. If there’s 20 of them and we’ve got 300 bikers out there … we can shield the family from them. They don’t have to see them and they never hear them.”

Court documents say the Topeka, Kansas-based church members have protested at more than 200 military funerals throughout the U-S.

Recently, the church protested the funeral for Elizabeth Edwards, former wife of vice-presidential candidate John Edwards.

Dobkins says he knows well what it’s like to be disrespected.

“I’m from the Viet Nam era, I remember what happened,” he says. “I wasn’t proud to be a veteran for a long time, I am now.”

“…To be able to protect family from that kind of nonsense it helps,” he says. “It helps me too.”

His wife, Rita, says even when there is no family, the Patriot Guard is there.

“A lot of the veterans, they don’t have a family,” she says. “So, we’re the Patriot Guard, we’re their family, and we’re there for them.”

  1. Christinewjc says:

While reading Dr. David Jeremiah’s (who is a GENUINE Baptist pastor/preacher) Turning Points magazine and devotional, I ran across a warning to “Beware of Masquerades” article that I think fits right in with the WRONGNESS of the Phelps cult.

    Beware of Masquerades

And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14

Masquerade balls gained prominence in Europe as early as the fourteenth centruy and have been popular ever since, spreading to America and South America via celebrations such as Mardi Gras and Carnivale. But ancient Greek actors also wore masks to create a facial impression consistent with their character.

Masquerades are fine when it comes to fun but can be dangerous in the spiritual world. Paul warned the Corinthian church against Satan masquerading himself as an “angel of light” — pretending to be one of God’s good angels. In the same way, he could empower “false apostles” to transform themselves into “apostles of Christ.” Indeed, Paul suggest that hs “thorn in th flesh” was a “messenger of Satan,.” “Messenger” in Greek is angelos, or “angel” (2 Corinthians 12:7). Was his thorn a false apostle who was empowered by Satan, acting as an “angel of light”? It takes discernment to see beneath the mask of an imposter.

There are good angels and evil angels in the world. It pays the Christian to be on guard against the evil (1 Peter 5:8) while giving thanks for the ministry of the good (Hebrews 1:14).
    *******

THAT’S IT!!! The Westboro cult is masquerading as apostles of God – all the while being false, evil, messengers of Satan! They are guilty of being spiritual imposters! True Christians have the ability to see beneath their imposter masks!
