Justice for Noor: Murderous Muslim Father’s Honor Killing of Daughter in AZ, Sentenced to Prison (video)

20-year-old Noor Al-Maleki, before her Islamic father murdered her in a 2009 Muslim honor killing in Arizona - he has been sentenced to 34 1/2 years in prison
I would have preferred that Faleh Hassan Al-Maleki, this despicable Islamic man who murdered his 20-year-old daughter Noor in cold blood in Arizona because he felt she had become too “Westernized,” had received a life sentence. But since he’s already 50 years old, a 34-and-a-half-year prison sentence will likely shake out to being a life sentence for him. When he mowed down his daughter in October 2009 with his Jeep, he also tried to murder Amal Khalaf, the mother of his daughter’s boyfriend.
The math for Al-Maleki’s 34-and-a-half-year prison sentence: 16 years for second-degree murder, 15 years for the assault of Khalaf, and 3 1/2 years for leaving the scene of an accident.
Justice for this beautiful, independent young woman who died far too young — at the hands of her own father.
Associated Press: Iraqi Immigrant Who Killed Daughter Gets 34 Yrs.
From Arizona Republic, Iraq immigrant gets 34-year prison sentence:
A Glendale man who fatally ran down his daughter and seriously injured a former family friend wept with regret on Friday, then was sentenced to more than three decades in prison.
Faleh Hassan Al-Maleki, found guilty in the killing of his 20-year-old daughter Noor, will serve 34 1/2 years. “This does not have to do with honor,” Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Roland Steinle said. “This has to do with a man, his narcissism, his mean-spiritedness, his inability to forgive. He was driven to kill his daughter because it suited his purpose.”
The case drew international attention after authorities said Al-Maleki, an Iraqi immigrant, deliberately ran down his daughter in October 2009 because he believed she did not adhere to traditional cultural values and brought shame to her family.
Al-Maleki, 50, broke down crying and apologized in court Friday afternoon to his family and to Amal Khalaf, whose hip and thigh were broken when he drove his Jeep into her and his daughter as they walked in a Peoria parking lot. Noor was dating Khalaf’s son.
He fled to Mexico and London before being arrested later and returned to Arizona. His apology on Friday was the first time he publicly spoke about his daughter’s death.
“I wish I was dead and not her,” he said in Arabic. “I’m sorry. I’m very sorry.”
Steinle responded by sentencing Al-Maleki to 16 years in prison for second-degree murder, 15 years for the assault of Khalaf, and 3 1/2 years for leaving the scene of an accident.
Khalaf, who was the first to speak at Friday’s sentencing hearing, said in Arabic that she still doesn’t understand why Al-Maleki chose to hurt her, especially when the families had been so close.
“I just want to ask him what I did to him to put me in this situation,” said Khalaf, looking in front of her as a court interpreter translated her words.
From Seeing Red AZ, Murderous Muslim father gets 34½ years in daughter’s honor killing:
Words unable to be spoken are “Muslim fundamentalist, extremist, honor killing”
In a stunning example of its bent to political correctness, the Arizona Republic sensitively refers to Faleh Hassan Al-Maleki, 50, as a “Glendale man” rather than an extremist Muslim who intentionally ran down and killed his 20-year-old daughter, Noor. Her crime? Becoming too “westernized.“
The case drew international attention after authorities charged the Iraqi immigrant of deliberately running down his daughter and seriously injuring her boyfriend’s mother, Amal Khalaf, in October 2009. Al-Maleki, who fled to Mexico and London after the killing, believed Noor brought shame to her family by not adhering to traditional Muslim values. He stalked, threatened and tormented Noor, before finally murdering her for not being Muslim enough.
And for this, he was mysteriously not charged with a capital offense which could have mandated the death penalty.
Public Defender Jeffrey Kirchler actually attempted to paint Al-Maleki as a victim, but Deputy County Attorney Laura Reckart would have none of it as she made her compelling case.
From Examiner, Honor killing: U.S. Iraqi imprisoned for murdering daughter:
An Iraqi immigrant living in Phoenix, Arizona, was sentenced Friday to more than 30 years in prison for murdering his 20-year-old daughter because he believed she’d become too Westernized.
A Maricopa County jury found Faleh Hassan Almaleki guilty of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Noor Almaleki as a result of the “honor killing.”
An honor killing (also called a customary killing) is the killing of a member of a family or social group by other members, due to the belief of the perpetrators (and potentially the wider community) that the victim has brought dishonor upon the family or community. Honor killings are directed mostly against women and girls.
The perceived dishonor is normally the result of one of the following behaviors, or the suspicion of such behaviors: (a) dressing in a manner unacceptable to the family or community, (b) wanting to terminate or prevent an arranged marriage or desiring to marry by own choice, (c) engaging in heterosexual sexual acts outside marriage, or even due to a non-sexual relationship perceived as inappropriate, and (d) engaging in homosexual acts.
Women and girls are killed at a much higher rate than men.
According to reports, the victim refused to comply with her father’s demands that she follow Iraqi and Islamic traditions. According to court records, her father wanted her to follow Iraqi traditions, but Noor Almaleki rejected his wishes in an effort to be a typical American girl.
At the age of 17, Noor Almaleki refused to enter into an arranged marriage in Iraq, which enraged her father, a court paper said.
From The Daily Mail:
An Iraqi immigrant has been sentenced to 34 years in an Arizona prison for running over his daughter because she became too Westernized.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge told Almaleki, 50, that forgiveness is the core of all religion and was struck by his lack of remorse for the killing.
Police say Almaleki slammed his Jeep into his daughter and Amal Khalaf, who lived and was at Friday’s sentencing.
Noor was in a coma for two weeks before she died from her injuries.
During the trial, prosecutors said he wanted Noor Almaleki to act like a traditional Iraq woman, but she refused an arranged marriage, went to college and had a boyfriend.
Defence lawyers had called Noor’s death and the severe injuries to Amal Khalaf an accident.
They said he only wanted to spit on the older woman, who Almaleki thought helped his daughter stay away from her family.
Khalaf had taken Noor in several times after she left home between 2007 and 2009, and that was a cause of increasing friction between the families.
A detective testified that Almaleki acknowledged under questioning by police that he intentionally ran her over. But the transcript of the taped interview showed he repeatedly called the incident an accident.
Khalaf also testified during the four-week trial, saying he ignored her screams to stop before he struck her and then ran down Noor.
The defence never called any witnesses. They argued for a lesser charge, saying Almaleki made a split-second decision that he should be held accountable for but that he did not intend to kill anyone.
