Just last week, a coworker and I were speculating as to why Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were breaking up after a quarter-of-a-century of marriage.
That the former “Governator” had an affair with a household staffer and fathered a love child never once was considered.

It was more than just growing apart: former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed late Monday that his marriage was on the rocks because his wife Maria Shriver left him, and had done it after finding out that he fathered a child with a household employee.
In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, the movie star – who left office earlier this year – admitted his infidelity was what derailed their 25-year marriage.
“After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” he said, referring to fathering the child. “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”
“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time,” he added. “While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed in a statement to the Los Angeles Times that he had fathered a love child with a longtime household staff member before he was elected governor in 2002. His wife, Maria Shriver, left the pair’s Brentwood home earlier this year after he admitted to fathering the child with the staff member, who had worked for the family for 20 years but remained anonymous.

Talk about a bombshell! Just last week Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger announced their split after a 25-year marriage. Turns out that wasn’t the only shocking announcement from their camp. Arnold has officially publicly admitted to fathering a love child with a former staffer!
Here’s the scoop: Over ten years ago Arnold had a child with a member of their household staff. Yes, you read that right. Someone on their staff! As in, in their house. After discovering this truth, Maria moved out of their Brentwood mansion earlier this year. According to The Los Angeles Times (via PopEater), the staffer worked for them for twenty years and retired in January. Her name hasn’t been released.
In a statement Arnold indicated, ”After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago.” He added, “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. FORMER California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday explosively announced he had fathered a child a decade ago with a woman who was a household employee for 20 years.
The film star and former Mr Universe last week announced his separation from Maria Shriver after 25 years of marriage.
“After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” Schwarzenegger told The Los Angeles Times.
“I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family.
“There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologised to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”
The woman at the centre of the scandal “left on good terms” of her own volition earlier this year, and reportedly received a substantial severance payment.
