Outrageous: Barack Obama has given to Hamas the holy regions of Old Jerusalem

This is unbelievable. This is deplorable. Does Barack Obama have no recollection of Israel’s history?

Netanyahu, Obama at odds over Mid-East peace

From The Jerusalem Post, Analysis: What rankled Netanyahu in the Obama speech:

In 2004, US President George Bush, in exchange for then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip, wrote a letter saying in any future agreement between Israel and the Palestinians it would be “unrealistic” to expect a full Israeli withdrawal to the 1949 Armistice lines (the 1967 lines), and that a just and fair solution to the Palestinian refugee issue would be their absorption in a future Palestinian state, rather than Israel.

What prompted Prime Minister Netanyahu to issue a surprisingly harsh response to President Barack Obama’s speech Thursday night was the sense that Obama had essentially thrown that letter out the window.

There were three elements in the Obama speech — a speech which was not without some “sweeteners” for Israel — that particularly irritated and surprised Netanyahu.

The first had to do with the President using, for the first time, the 1967 lines as a baseline for an agreement, saying in his speech that “We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states.”

Using the 1967 lines as a baseline, and saying that land will have to be swapped from inside Israel, has never before been US policy.

In 2009, in a carefully worded statement, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said the following: “We believe that through good faith negotiations the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements.”

What Obama did in his speech was make the Palestinian goals of a “viable state based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps,” the American goal as well.

[...]

The second issue that perturbed Netanyahu was the refugee issue.

While Bush in his letter said clearly that the Palestinian refugees should return to a Palestinian state, Obama made no mention of that position and instead actually said that the refugee issue would have to be negotiated down the line. In the Israeli view, Obama simply ignored the American policy articulated by Bush on the refugees.

A round-up of reactions to Pres. Obama’s shocking speech and the Israeli territory — the “pre-1967″ borders of Israel — that has now been handed over to Hamas.

From American Thinker, Obama’s borders Caused 60 Years of War:

Obama has just given an eager world his fantasy answer for the last sixty years of Arab-Israel conflict. The Great One’s long-awaited solution is for Israel to pull back to the cease-fire lines of the 1948 War of Independence, or what Obama, in a moment of historical amnesia, calls “the 1967 borders.” People have fought and died over those borders since 1949, not 1967. Make that sixty years of regular warfare.

Take a quick glance at the Green Line on the map, and see if you can honestly answer this question:

Would I want my family and children to live on the scary side of that lengthy, convoluted and meandering border, with Hamas and Hezbollah trying to breach the fence every night with knife-wielding maniacs and Grad rocket launchers?

If you answered that question honestly, you cannot be a liberal. You know too much.

However, if you think the answer is “Yes, I’ll do anything for peace, including putting my kids’ lives on the line,” then you are sucker bait for the most delusional political party in American history. And that includes the Bull Moose Party.

[...]

Has anything actually been solved since Obama’s election? Are race relations better? Is the economy barrelling out of the Great Recession? Are freedom and prosperity growing around the world?

This is Inspector Clouseau in a glassware factory, knocking down crystal chandeliers and champagne glasses wherever he goes, and never noticing that anything is wrong. The movie was a lot funnier.

The coming election will be fought over Obama’s media-made fantasy that he’s already solved America’s domestic problems, real and imagined. Like the Great Svengali, The One and his cheering mediots will try to mesmerize enough voters to believe that wacky fantasy; they may even succeed, because we have enough slack-jawed deadheads in the country to give President Calamity another four years.

From Gateway Pundit, REWARDING EVIL… Obama Gifts Hamas With Most Sacred Sites of Christianity:

The Palestinian Hamas and Fatah terrorist factions signed a truce on Wednesday May 4, 2011. Neither of the terror factions recognize Israel and neither terror organization has plans to reject terrorist activities against the Jewish people.

In recognition of this terrorist truce, Barack Obama yesterday gave the Palestinian people Old Jerusalem. Old Jerusalem contains the most sacred holy sites of Christianity.

From Atlas Shrugged, NYC Emergency Rally Today: Protest Obama’s Jihad Against Israel:

If you are in the New York area tomorrow, grab your crew and stand for freedom. Stand with Israel. Protest Obama’s jihad against the Jewish people. You. must. Take a stand.

Muslim groups are calling for the mass invasion of Israel today — stand up, get up, it is now or never….. if not you, who?

[...]

Today’s speech by US President Barack Obama is nothing short of an outrage, and one which openly declares Obama an enemy of the State of Israel. The world should be clear – In Israel there will be little to no political debate on this issue – It will be nearly unanimous that the calls of Israel to return to the 1967 borders would mark a grave danger to the state of Israel. As Prime Minister Netanyahu stated, these borders are “militarily indefensible.”

It’s necessary in these times to remember what Abba Eban, when he served as Israel’s Foreign Minister said when he appeared at the United Nations following the Six Day war, in describing the fragility of Israel’s 1949-1967 map as Israel’s “Auschwitz” lines.

“We have openly said that the map will never again be the same as on June 4, 1967. For us, this is a matter of security and of principles. The June map is for us equivalent to insecurity and danger. I do not exaggerate when I say that it has for us something of a memory of Auschwitz. We shudder when we think of what would have awaited us in the circumstances of June, 1967, if we had been defeated; with Syrians on the mountain and we in the valley, with the Jordanian army in sight of the sea, with the Egyptians who hold our throat in their hands in Gaza. This is a situation which will never be repeated in history.”

This proposal is a grave danger to the State of Israel. This President is more concerned with Jews who build homes in the ancient Jewish homeland than he is about Arab Muslims building bombs in Iran.

Our president gave the following holy sites to Hamas:

The Garden of Gethsamene
Chapel of the Ascension
The Tomb of the Virgin
The Tower of David
The Wailing Wall
The Via Delarosa (the final steps of Jesus Christ)
The tomb of Jesus Christ
The Church of St. Anne
The Church of the Flagellation
The Church of All Nations
The site of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

From Legal Insurrection, Why Now, Why Israel?:

Why yesterday for Obama to unload the demand that Israel withdraw to the pre-1967 borders, with some negotiated land swaps?

Contrary to what some are claiming, this is a new formulation. Under the Obama formulation, Israel has a land mass fixed by the 1949 armistice lines, lines which the Arabs never recognized as having any meaning until after Israel acquired more land in 1967. Hamas, which controls Gaza and has entered into a ruling coalition government for all of the Palestinian Authority, does not recognize Israel’s right to exist within any borders.

While previous U.S. administrations acknowledged that the pre-1967 borders likely would be the starting framework for a territorial deal, no prior administration set those borders as the best Israel could do. Issues such as Israeli communities beyond the pre-1967 borders or control of strategic Wests Bank hills and the Jordan Valley, now are open to negotiation on terms set by Obama — in a land swap of existing Israeli sovereign territory. The standard territorial compromises which would afford Israel territorial security no longer are presumed.

From YNet News, Palestinian Facebook group urges rushing of Israel’s borders:

Pro-Palestinian activists have formed a new Facebook group calling for mass marches on Israel’s borders this coming Friday.

The group – “Third Palestinian Intifada” – urges Arab activists in neighboring countries to storm Israel’s borders in reaction to the recent “Nakba Day” events and ensuing casualties.

Several Facebook groups urge a third mass popular uprising against Israel, and one of them sports a “Friday of response” page, bearing the date May 20. The page, which currently has 100,000 “Like’s”, does not however give any details on how or exactly when these marches should take place.

From RedState, President Obama Again Demonstrates his Utter Ignorance of the Israel-Palestine Situation:

President Obama addressed the nation – nay, the WORLD! – today on the subject of the “Arab Spring” events in the Middle East and North Africa, on the death of Osama bin Laden (has it yet been mentioned what a GutsyCall™ that was on Obama’s part?), and, above all, on the Israel-Palestine “peace process” that in reality is no such thing.

In his remarks on Israel-Palestine, the foreign affairs naif who currently occupies the White House clearly demonstrated his ignorance of the Levant’s geopolitics, its recent history, and the character, statements, and actions of some of its inhabitants.

[...]

The rejection of Israel’s right to exist is often associated with the more extreme elements of the Muslim Brotherhood-spawned terrorist organization Hamas (and, in the north, Hezbollah). However, despite the lack of acknowledgment from political leaders and media alike, this is a standard position for all Palestinian leaders, as well as for significant populations within the states that make up the wider Arab world. Part of the reason this goes unnoticed or ignored may be the fact that many people see what they want to see with regard to Palestine and its people’s plight; however, a far greater part is the refusal by media outlets and government officials alike to take note of, and to report, statements made by Palestinian leaders in their own language, to their own people.

Additionally, the opposition to Israel’s existence and the glorification of martyrdom can be found in such obvious places as Palestinian schoolbooks and state television programming — if one is willing to look for it. The glorification of suicide bombers (or “martyrs”) and the veneration murdering Israelis as the ultimate goal to strive for in life – on children’s programming – is standard fare on both Hamas and Fatah-funded state television. The sermons and speeches aimed at adults are far worse. However, as long as these statements and demonizations are delivered in Arabic, and words of peace and pragmatism are uttered in English (or in Arabic to Western reporters’ interpreters), the latter is all that is reported, and the rest is summarily ignored.

From Ace of Spades HQ, Yup, Obama Hates Israel:

Very neat article at NRO pointing out the nuances of Obama’s words for Israel — compared to his words for Palestine.

It’s all pretty neat, but these word-choices matter: These words have been chosen carefully. Including the passive/active voice and declarative or commanding tenses. This is essentially a publicly-delivered diplomatic cable.

There are other neat things, but the best observation, to me, is the fact that when Obama speaks of Israel, he speaks in terms of concrete demands that he, Obama, is laying upon Israel.

When he turns to the reciprocal concessions most urge on Palestine, however, he stops speaking in the command tense, stops speaking of demanding this or that, and simply says that Palestinians will do better if they stop killing Jews.

Not that they must stop killing Jews, mind you, like Israel must stop building settlements; just that hey, it would be better, you know? Or not, you decide.

For contrast, the writer quotes Bush, who was pretty command-tense with Palestinians: They must crack down on terror and dismantle the terror infrastructure.

Perceptive. Obama makes demands on Israel, but makes promises to the Palestinians. Tells you pretty much where he’s coming from.

From Voting American, Obama’s Jihad against Israel and America:

Why the shocked look America? We have all watched as this Treasonous President has systematically been dismantling America’s economy and military defenses all the while dividing the American People over Race and Ideology. His announcement yesterday comes as no surprise to this writer as he attempts to surrender Israel to the mercies of an Islamic Jihad calling for the Death of Israel and America.

[...]

President Obama, in a sweeping address tackling the uprisings in the Middle East and the stalled peace process, on Thursday endorsed Palestinians’ demand for their own state based on the borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war.

The break with longstanding U.S. policy is likely to aggravate the Israelis, who want the borders of any future Palestinian state determined through negotiations. The declaration comes ahead of a meeting in Washington between Obama and visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

A must-read at Talk Wisdom, here’s the first paragraph… Glenn on Israel, Islam, plus a Liberal Democrat Guest on Show”:

WOW!!! Glenn Beck’s show tonight was truly awesome! He started out his show discussing his trip to Israel and further pointing out how Israel is “being set up” and why.

“Hate of Israel” seems a bit over the top. My perception of the Obama speech is different than the way the right sees it. This article from NPR made the situation much clearer, without the right-wing rhetoric and bias:

    http://www.npr.org/2011/05/20/136495202/background-israels-pre-1967-boundaries

All of the post-Six Day War boundaries are illegal, not recognized by the UN, and the source of contention for the Palastinians. What Obama is saying “Go back to your legal , pre-1967 borders, but you guys must work this out as best you can. The US will HELP, but don’t depend on us to fight your war for you.” Of course it enraged Netanyahu…..he wants the US to send tons of more money and soldiers (which we don’t have) to blast the Palastenians into oblivion once and for all.

We have enough problems with our own borders, why should we be involved to a large scale in theirs? Besides, this border conflict will never be resolved. Both sides say gave the land to them. Only God can resolve this.

Jews in Israel would disagree with you. Obviously, you have no historical understanding of nor concerns about the ongoing attempted genocide of Jews in Israel by Islamics. I’ve written about this before. History speaks for itself. NPR is filled with left-wing “rhetoric and bias”, as I’ve also written before, so citing it as a non-biased source is ridiculous. I agree with you that we have horrific problems with illegal immigration and violence at our borders, despite the claims made by the president (which I’ve written about countless times), but supporting Israel is also an imperative. Obama has broken existing agreements that the United States had made with Israel, likely damaged the quest for an Israeli/Palestinian deal, and quite possibly has moved the region closer to a new Middle East war.

Dispelling the myth that post-Six Day War boundaries are illegal: http://www.think-israel.org/grief.occupationmyth.html

I notice you didn’t mention that we should cut the billions that Obama will be giving to Egypt that was announced this week, nor mentioned the billions we give to Pakistan and many other countries, nor mentioned the bizarre war on which we’re spending billions in Libya. Only our ally Israel is on your “must cut” list. Liberals have demonstrated their dislike for Israel for years – you are no exception.

  6. Joanie says:

You are correct that I do not understand much about the conflicts in the area. I doubt few Americans truly do. Things seem to shift with the wind and both sides convolute who’s right and who’s wrong with every skirmish.

Wait!. . . . .I just went outside. It’s 75 degrees……there’s a soft breeze blowing…… my flowerbeds are in dire need of grooming…… it rained and rained for 3 weeks, felt like March, not late May……. took an extended road trip with my daughter to Oklahoma, came home with bronchitis, feel much better now – thank you Z-Pac,……now the weather and my chores are way more important than trying to save the world.

LOVE our discussions, have enjoyed my time here, but goodbye for the summer. Will see you in October (unless something Earth-shattering occurs). Have a good summer Vicki!

    • admin says:

You as well, Joanie/Janet, you have been a spirited debater (although your nasty comments on Palin have had to be deleted, so knock it off) – but wait, you said 75 degrees??? And rain for 3 weeks? We had rain this past week – for about 3 hours.

How perfectly lovely the weather sounds – we had a mild break in our normal temps in AZ this past week, but it is suppose to be close to 90 today. Back to normal, back to 8 months of summer. *sigh* Love our winters here, detest our summers.

Hope to see you back here on the site in the fall – you’ve added quite a bit to the discussions and to me having to delve deeper into issues that I have deep concerns about. It’s been a good experience and a real blast, LOL. :)

Take care, have a fun summer (how cool that you were able to spend so much time together with your daughter on your road trip), and God bless.

  7. Obama’s only option is to make this demand because he knows it is the only option Hamas will accept. Israel capitulating (which will NEVER HAPPEN) is his only chance to make history.

The only way to ignore the reality of Israel’s vulnerability, even with the present borders, is to deny it. That’s what every Muslim does.

    Great round-up of information.

  8. Laurie says:

Israel agreeing to 1967 borders would mean the end of Israel.

If there is a vote in the UN and they agree on 1967 borders and the US does not veto it there will be a war in the Middle East the likes of which we have never seen.
