About Time: Octomom Fertility Doctor’s License to Be Revoked, Didn’t “Exercise Sound Judgment”
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on June 2, 2011
She’s been the fodder of late-night talk show jokes and the horror of conscientious, outraged parents everywhere — Nadya Suleman, aka Octomom, who gave birth to eight children in January 2009 via in-vitro fertilization. Not only did Suleman already have six children (bringing the total to fourteen), but she was unemployed, unmarried, living on welfare assistance programs, and based on a few interviews I’ve seen of her, mentally unbalanced.
She has been seen shopping at expensive California boutiques, has appeared in a 1-hour TV documentary in Britain (she’s tried to get a reality show of her own with her brood in it), and has a fixation on actress Angelina Jolie, which is reportedly why Suleman wanted such a large family — to imitate the large family Jolie has with actor Brad Pitt. Suleman has even gone so far as to have undergone facial surgical procedures, including lip augmentation and rhinoplasty, to make herself look more like Jolie. The home in which she lives in California was in foreclosure last year, and she held a well-publicized garage sale to raise money. The bank and house owner Amer Haddadin forgave the $450,000 balloon payment and reworked her house payments. But as of this week, Suleman is again not making her monthly payments.
Now that you know some of the Octomom backstory, here, finally, is some justice: the Beverly Hills fertility doctor, Dr. Michael Kamrava, who assisted the infamous Octomom in giving birth to eight babies, will have his license revoked.
Forever.
About time.
Reported by LA Times, ‘Octomom’ doctor’s license to be revoked, state medical board rules:
The medical license of the Beverly Hills fertility doctor who assisted Nadya Suleman in conceiving octuplets will be revoked next month, the Medical Board of California announced Wednesday.
The panel ruled that Dr. Michael Kamrava “did not exercise sound judgment” in the transfer of 12 embryos to Suleman. Kamrava was accused by the attorney general’s office of being grossly negligent in his treatment of Suleman and two other female patients: a 48-year-old who suffered complications after she became pregnant with quadruplets and a 42-year-old diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer after receiving fertility treatments.
“Public protection is paramount,” the board said. “The board is not assured that oversight through probation is enough, and having weighed the above, has determined that revocation of respondent’s certificate is necessary to protect the public.” The revocation takes effect July 1.
The medical board rejected many of arguments submitted by Kamrava’s lawyer, including the suggestion that Suleman failed to follow through in terminating an excessive number of fetuses. “To assign even a scintilla of responsibility to a patient who becomes pregnant and then elects not to follow through with a procedure that may jeopardize her (and possibly her family’s) prized objective is troubling and telling,” the board said.
The board also rejected the argument that publicity regarding Suleman’s case would serve as a deterrent to Kamrava transferring excessive numbers of embryos in the future. The board pointed out that Kamrava acknowledged being distracted by bad press after Suleman’s octuplets were born. He cited that as a reason for his failure to follow up on abnormal test results for the patient whose diagnosis of ovarian cancer was delayed.
“The board is not persuaded that relying on the public or the media to fulfill or supplement the board’s public protection role is sound policy.”
From Hollywood Gossip, Dr. Michael Kamrava Loses Medical License For Inflicting Octomom Upon World:
Dr. Michael Kamrava will lose his license to practice medicine for one reason and one reason alone. He created the child-rearing mess that is Octomom.
California yanked the medical license of the Beverly Hills fertility doctor who implanted 12 embryos into “Octomom” Nadya Suleman three years ago.
Effective July 1, the state’s Medical Board will take away his right to practice forever, a more severe punishment than the doc’s expected five-year ban.
From Babble.com, Strollerderby, Octomom Nadya Suleman’s Doctor Has License Revoked: And She’s Not the Only Reason:
After it was discovered that a Southern Californian woman was impregnated, carried and birthed eight babies, the poor judgment of Nadya Suleman wasn’t the only thing blamed for such a bold birthing move. Also taking the heat, and for good reason, was her fertility doctor –Dr. Michael Kamrava. On Wednesday, the Medical Board of California announced that his license would be revoked next month. And it wasn’t just because of Nadya Suleman.
The Medical Board did feel that Kamava “did not exercise sound judgment” when he transferred 12 embryos to into Suleman. But other instances played a part in having his license revoked and that he wasn’t just “grossly negligent in his treatment of Suleman” but in two other cases as well.
One 48-year-old woman had complications when she became pregnant with quadruplets after seeing Dr. Kamava. And one 42-year-old woman was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer after going through fertility treatments with Dr. Kamava. In the latter case, Dr. Kamava confessed that he was ‘distracted’ by the bad press after the Suleman scandal and that made him miss the woman’s abnormal tests which resulted in a late detection of the patient’s ovarian cancer.

And while the California Board is at it, the state needs to garnish his earnings to support Octomom’s children.
I like it!
good posting Vicki….. and its about dang TIME!
