The “Obama Curse” Like Brady Bunch’s “Bad Luck” Tiki Necklace: Toledo Restaurant Cited by POTUS Last Week, Now Going Out of Business

1970s 'Brady Bunch' Hawaii episode flashback: Bobby gives Greg a cursed tiki necklace for good luck, just before Greg has a serious surfing accident
Michelle Malkin and others have called it the Reverse Midas Touch — I think POTUS Obama is more like that cursed bad luck tiki necklace from the Brady Bunch’s season 4 family romp in Hawaii in 1972.
The cursed tiki necklace in the old sitcom was made in Hawaii and all who wore it experienced bad luck. Barack H. Obama was born in Hawaii.
Just a coincidence? Harrumph — I think NOT.
Latest “BHO Curse” casualty: A restaurant in Toledo, Ohio is closing its doors after 70 years — and just a week after Barack “Tiki Curse” Obama had mentioned it as an indirect beneficiary of the GM Chrysler bailout.
From Cleveland.com, Ohio restaurant referenced by Obama is closing:
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio restaurant mentioned last week by President Barack Obama as an indirect beneficiary of the government’s Chrysler bailout will go out of business Sunday after a more than 70-year history.
Co-owner Richard Lawrence of New Chet’s Restaurant in Toledo says business has fallen victim to the economy and the workplace smoking ban approved by Ohio voters in 2006. He told The Blade newspaper of Toledo on Wednesday that auto industry cutbacks also hurt.
Lawrence says he used to deliver up to $300 in food per week to Chrysler Group LLC’s Jeep plant in Toledo, but now that’s down to about $100 worth.
From Washington Times, Toledo restaurant touted by Obama to close:
An Ohio restaurant that President Obama touted last week as having benefited from his expansion of the auto industry bailout is going out of business after 70 years of serving residents in Toledo.
The owner of Chet’s told the local newspaper the eatery will shut its doors for good Sunday due to the slumping economy and a smoking ban.
Mr. Obama had cited Chet’s in a recent speech to Chrysler workers, arguing that his administration’s decision to double down on the taxpayer bailout of GM and Chrysler not only helped the U.S. automakers but surrounding businesses.
“This plant indirectly supports hundreds of other jobs right here in Toledo,” he said in remarks at a Toledo Wrangler plant last Friday. “After all, without you, who’d eat at Chet’s or Inky’s or Rudy’s?”
Co-owner Richard Lawrence told the Toledo Blade there wasn’t enough business to sustain a cooking staff. Chet’s dates back to 1939.
Mr. Lawrence said it was “busier than heck” during Mr. Obama’s visit, however.
Round-up of Obama Tiki Necklace Curses:
Pres. Barack Obama predicted an Indianapolis Colts win against the New Orleans Saints at the 2010 Super Bowl XLIV. The Colts lost.
In December 2010, he congratulated the Philadelphia Eagles for giving quarterback Michael Vick a second chance — they lost the game to the Minnesota Vikings.
Obama also predicted that the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team would win the NCAA championship — the team lost in just the second round.
He flew to Boston in January 2010 to rally voters for Democrat Martha Coakley against Republican Scott Brown for the Massachusetts Senate seat. Coakley lost.
He campaigned vigorously in Virginia during the fall of 2009 to help Democrat R. Creigh Deeds win the governor seat. Deeds lost.
The president also campaigned through New Jersey to help Democrat Gov. Jon Corzine in his bid for re-election last fall. Not once, not twice, but three times Obama trekked over to the Garden State for stumping. Corzine lost.
Obama campaigned multiple times, almost non-stop, for a number of Democrat candidates during the 2010 election period — many, just by the skin of their teeth (and the revving up of many fat-cat union thug machines) survived being booted from office, Sen. Harry Reid being the most vulnerable. Obama’s endorsement efforts did not pan out for many Democrat leaders. Including in Illinois — the Democrats were stunned when they were shellacked and lost their majority in the House.
More evidence of Obama/Tiki necklace curses…
Obama, with Oprah Winfrey and FLOTUS there a few days earlier (and Michelle spinning troubling tales about sitting on her daddy’s lap), dropped everything to fly out to Copenhagen to push for the Olympics to come to Chicago in 2016, even though a majority of Chicago citizens wanted nothing to do with the make-politicians-rich, money-sucking sports event nightmare. In the end, the Obama Tiki Curse took over — Obama’s pitch was more about himself than about the Olympics — so, no Olympics for Chicago.
Velma Hart, who eloquently shared during an Obama townhall meeting last September her financial fears and told the president she was tired of “defending him” — lost her job as chief financial officer for Am Vets.
An elementary school in New Jersey named for POTUS, the Barack H. Obama Elementary School, has been closed down… thanks to fiscal mismanagement and non-achievement. Imagine that.
A statue of Obama as a child has been removed from a park in Indonesia… although that wasn’t a preemptive measure against the Obama Tiki curse, but instead, was in response to a protest against Obama by the Indonesian citizens.
Blogger Doug Powers’ advice following the news about the Ohio restaurant, the latest casualty — Restaurant Obama Cited Last Week as Bailout Beneficiary Going Out of Business:
File that one alongside a teacher the White House used as a symbol for jobs saved by a $26 billion jobs bill who was subsequently laid off.
Moral of the story: If the administration approaches you and wants to use you or your business as an example of how massive government spending has saved the economy, politely decline the offer, go home for the day and come back when the coast is clear.
