Nanny State Government’s Blitzkrieg on Kids’ Lemonade Stands (video)
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on July 3, 2011

The Maryland state government wanted to fine these children $500 for not having a permit for their lemonade stand
What is it with the government during the Era of Hopenchange™ crashing its oppressive wall of bricks onto children’s lemonade stands with outrageous penalties and fines? I wrote about this happening to a 7-year-old girl back in August 2010 in Oregon — there is a more recent occurrence in Bethesda, Maryland. The government shut down the kids’ stand because they didn’t have a permit and until outcry ensued, faced a whopping $500 fine. So what if the children were raising money for pediatric cancer research?
Likely more homemade lemonade stands are under siege in America that we don’t know about.
Crikey sakes alive.
WMAR ABC2 News: Maryland County Shuts Down Lemonade Stand
ReasonTV honors the Nanny of the Month for June — runners up include the new graphic, possibly counterproductive warnings on cigarette packs and San Francisco’s Animal Control and Welfare Commission wanting to ban the sale of pet fish, as well as goldfish and guppies, and ultimately, all pets — winner was the Lemonade Oppressors.
H/t to Sister Toldjah for this video.
From Big Government on Reason TV’s Nanny of the Month award:
…Top dishonors go to the sour bureaucrat who put the squeeze on a group of kids for running a lemonade stand. Sure they were raising money for a worthy cause (pediatric cancer research), but they were doing it without a permit, and that’s why they got slapped with a $500 fine.
Presenting Reason.tv’s Nanny of the Month for June 2011: Jennifer Hughes of Montgomery County, Maryland’s Department of Permitting Services!
The episode sparked so much outrage that the county eventually backed off, but this is no isolated incident. Across America, the permit police are cracking down on pint-sized peddlers of liquid freedom.
At least the kids weren’t selling bunnies. Then they would be facing a gargantuan $90,463 government fine instead of just $500.

But, I thought you WANT the states and local government to have more power.
BTW, actions such as this have been going on for years and years, but of course it wasn’t important to you conservatives unless you could somehow make it seem to be Obama’s fault.
You’re mighty paranoid – nowhere is your beloved empty suit Obama blamed for this (unless, down deep, you suspect him and his tax-hungry cronies, and I wouldn’t blame you for that). Maryland state government imposed this on the children – regardless of their party affiliation (and I believe it is Democrat), this would be utter nonsense. Your first sentence is hilarious. Non-liberals want the federal government to have less power, as stated in the Constitution – even when a Republican is in charge. Doesn’t mean that we want local or state governments to be totally stupid on lemonade stands. And of course this kind of thing has been going on in different shapes and forms for years. Just as ludicrous, if a Republican did it or a Democrat, although you’re not criticizing it, I noticed. There were plenty of criticisms from conservatives about Bush when he was in office – liberals are FAR less objective and naive about Obama and liberal politicians. As I’ve noticed with you, Joanie.
I deleted your snotty Bachmann/Palin comment a bit ago – I thought you got the message last week when you posted nasty posts against conservatives and Palin and I didn’t post them. But no. You’ve been warned one time too many, ignored this blog’s rules – you can write comments to your heart’s delight, but from now on, you’re banned from this site. I won’t even read them, since you stopped having any thoughtful offerings a long time back and time is too short for me to waste on your attacks. Daily Kos will love you, however.
Adios.
