From Washington Post, Video shows enraged Chihuahua chasing off robbers at Los Angeles-area smoke shop:
ALTADENA, Calif. — Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have released a video of a barking Chihuahua angrily chasing off robbers at an Altadena smoke shop.
The video, released Monday, shows two hooded men, one armed with a rifle, running into the Ace Smoke Shop on July 7 and demanding money.
As the store owner begins putting money in a backpack carried by one of the men, the owner’s Chihuahua begins barking incessantly and jumping at the men, chasing them out of the store and down the street.
At one point, one of the men even points his rifle at the Chihuahua, but the dog is undaunted.
Neither the store owner, nor the dog was injured.
From Los Angeles Times, Chihuahua that thwarted robbers hailed as hero, goes on national TV:
Paco, the barking Chihuahua that foiled a robbery at his owner’s Altadena smoke shop this month, is described by friends and neighbors as a peaceful animal who usually is very docile.
A video of the robbery and Paco’s angry response has become an Internet sensation and the dog appeared Monday on “Good Morning America.”
“I was shocked. Normally, he’s usually really laid-back. He just sits back and takes it easy,” Cecil Griffin, a neighbor, told the show.
The Ace Smoke Shop’s owner said Paco was rescued several years ago and spends his days sitting in the shop and roaming around outside. He’s a familiar face to residents and merchants. They said they were impressed that Paco chased away the burglars — but stressed it was out of character for him.
“He’s very easygoing,” said shop owner Eric Knight. “He’s very friendly.”
The attempted robbery took place July 7 about 7:30 p.m. at the shop on North Lake Avenue in Altadena. The video shows two hooded men, one armed with a rifle, running into the store and demanding money.
Knight quickly begins placing money in a robber’s backpack. As he does, his Chihuahua erupts into ferocious barking at the two men, who beat a hasty retreat, running out of the store with the backpack but taking less money than they could have gotten.
From Gant Daily, Brave chihuahua foils robbery:
Weighing just 6 pounds and no longer than 10 inches, a tiny chihuahua in Los Angeles showed his bravery and bite by foiling two armed robbers.
Police have released a video that showed the diminutive pooch barking and scaring off two hooded armed robbers in Los Angeles on July 7. The dog barked, growled, snapped and chased the two suspects, described as Latino males, out of Ace Smoke Shop.
As the owner of the store complied with the robbers’ requests for cash, the slight dog began furiously barking and eventually chased them out of the store. For a moment it appeared the two suspects would shoot the dog, but both the dog and the owner were unharmed in the incident.
From Metro.co.uk, Chihuahua guard dog foils armed robbers in California:
A pair of armed robbers in California got more than they bargained for when they came face to face with a chihuahua guard dog in the store they were targeting.
The robbers, who had broken into the Ace Smoke Shop in Altadena near Los Angeles, were foiled by the pint-sized pooch – named Paco – who sprang into action as they demanded money from the till.
Undeterred – even when one of the robbers pointed a gun at him – Paco eventually chased the pair out of the shop and across the street.
The men eventually escaped with $200.
The shop’s owner Eric Knight, who was not there at the time of the robbery, said he was ‘shocked’ to see how Paco had reacted, but described his behaviour as ‘amazing’.
Police officers investigating the incident were also amused by video footage of the dog barking at the pair before chasing them out of the door.
The police have now released footage of the robbery, which took place on July 7, in the hope somebody may recognise the men involved.
Paco, a rescue dog, was adopted by a local resident a few years ago. He is well-known in the neighbourhood which is known for its low crime rate.
