Age of Civility Hypocrisy: Dem Steny Hoyer Says House Republicans Want to “Shoot Every Bullet They Can at the President” (video)
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on July 29, 2011
Based on how viciously top-level Democrat congressman Steny Hoyer oppugned the House Republicans this week regarding the debt ceiling negotiations, claiming they want to “shoot every bullet they can at the president,” we can assume with fair accuracy that any kind of civility or non-violent rhetoric from the Democrats’ side of the political fence in Washington is as likely as, well, as former White House Chief of Staff now Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel permanently removing the F-word from his vocabulary.
The tawdry age of civility, Democrat-style. It’s all downhill from here…
From Jim Treacher @ DC Trawler, The Daily Caller, Steny Hoyer celebrates the New Civility by claiming House Republicans ‘want to shoot every bullet they can at the president’:
“I think we’re playing Russian Roulette, frankly, with the nation’s creditworthiness, and unfortunately all the chambers seem to be loaded in the House side. They want to shoot every bullet they can at the president.”
Because nothing eases tensions and brings people together quite like claiming your opponents are assassins.
And the libs cry: “But he was speaking metaphorically!” That’s not what you said about Palin and “Don’t retreat, reload.” That’s not what you said about her Magical Voodoo Map that supposedly made Jared Lee Loughner go crazy and shoot a bunch of people. That’s not what you said when Michele Bachmann talked about making sure people were “armed and dangerous (with information on energy taxes).” You claimed all that stuff, and more, was toxic hate speech.
Funny how it’s only “violent rhetoric” when liberals think they can use it politically against conservatives.
In other Lefty Projection News, Harry Reid thinks Tea Partiers aren’t real Americans, and Ed Schultz thinks John Boehner is a drunk. If you want to know what’s in these guys’ hearts, just listen to what they say about their opponents. Especially when they’re backed into a corner. Whoops, is that “violent rhetoric”?
From Doug Powers @ Michelle Malkin’s blog, So How’s Steny Hoyer Doing With That ‘New Tone’ He Promoted?:
In January, Congressman and first runner-up in the 1986 Fred Gwynne lookalike contest Steny Hoyer called on Americans to tone down the “intense political rhetoric”:
“Far too many broadcasts now and so many outlets have the intent of inciting people to opposition, to anger, to thinking the other side is less than moral. I think that is a context in which somebody who is mentally unbalanced can somehow feel justified in taking this kind of action. I think we need to all take cognizance of that and be aware that what we say can, in fact, have consequences,” Hoyer said.
By way of Jim Geraghty at NRO, here’s Steny Hoyer this morning:
“I think we’re playing Russian roulette with the nation’s credit-worthiness. Unfortunately, all the chambers seem to be loaded on the House side. They want to shoot every bullet they have at the president.”
I’ve had colds that lasted longer than Hoyer’s “new tone”…
From NewsBusters, Hoyer on Morning Joe Says GOP ‘Want to Shoot Every Bullet they Have at the President’:
National Review’s Jim Geraghty notes today that House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer hasn’t gotten the memo on the new tone in Washington. “I think we’re playing Russian roulette with the nation’s credit-worthiness, and unfortunately, all the chambers seem to be loaded on the House side. They want to shoot every bullet they have at the President” said Hoyer on Wednesday’s “Morning Joe.”
Not one member of the panel appeared to notice Hoyer’s choice of words. The same morning program on which Newsweek’s Tina Brown suggested that House Republicans were suicide bombers failed to point out the insinuations of violence being made by the second-ranking Democrat in the House. It is also noteworthy that the media made sure to call attention to Sarah Palin’s use of relatively innocuous target symbols during the 2010 campaign, but did not take this opportunity to highlight a similar use of language.
So much for MSNBC’s hand-wringing about the need for a “new tone” in Washington.
If Hoyer’s inexcusable rhetoric, and MSNBC choosing to ignore it, was intended to inspire sympathy from the American public for poor Obama, it isn’t working — POTUS approval numbers have dropped to new, uncharted lows… Obama breaks 50 percent disapproval barrier:
A new poll shows President Barack Obama’s disapproval rate among political independents has broken above 50 percent, even while he is using the debt ceiling debate to seek approval from those critical swing voters.
Support for Obama among independents has fallen from 42 percent in May to 31 percent, and disapproval has risen to 54 percent, according to a late July poll of 1,500 registered voters by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.
The drop in support among independents is critical because both parties have a roughly similar number of die-hard supporters. The 2012 election prize will go to the candidate who draws more independent voters, and Obama’s decline in that crucial demographic has dragged his ratings down among registered voters, according to the Pew poll.
“The sizeable lead Barack Obama held over a generic Republican opponent in polls conducted earlier this year has vanished,” Pew announced today. “Currently, 41% of registered voters say they would like to see Obama reelected, while 40% say they would prefer to see a Republican candidate win in 2012. In May, Obama held an 11-point lead.”
Reminders of some other uncivil “attack and divide” rhetoric against Americans from the president himself — links compiled by Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit:
** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
Video flashback from 2009 — his fellow Democrats give Steny Hoyer a hard time at a Utica, NY, press conference. In typical liberal fashion, Hoyer gives talking points answers and changes the subject when he can’t address his constituents’ concerns.
