Obama's Magical Misery Tour bus is coming to take you away, dying to make you pay
When did Barack Obama “reverse” the recession? He claimed he did during a speech this week as he and his massive entourage swept through the Midwest.
Was this when he also parted the seas and healed the planet? And when he invented gravy? (Hat tip to an old Bob Newhart Show line, a favorite of mine and my husband’s).
OBAMA CARES, dontcha know, and he’s going to do something about the massive job losses and unemployment in America — right after he gets back from his vacation. Or so has said a Team Obama official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Obama has not yet disclosed his plans, and final decisions on the economic package have not yet been made.
And because vacations are important.

At a town hall meeting on his campaign-style tour of the Midwest, President Obama claimed that his economic program “reversed the recession” until recovery was frustrated by events overseas. And then, Obama said, with the economy in an increasingly precarious position, the recovery suffered another blow when Republicans pressed the White House for federal spending cuts in exchange for an increase in the national debt limit, resulting in a deal Obama called a “debacle.”
“We had reversed the recession, avoided a depression, gotten the economy moving again,” Obama told a crowd in Decorah, Iowa. “But over the last six months we’ve had a run of bad luck.” Obama listed three events overseas — the Arab Spring uprisings, the tsunami in Japan, and the European debt crises — which set the economy back.
“All those things have been headwinds for our economy,” Obama said. “Now, those are things that we can’t completely control. The question is, how do we manage these challenging times and do the right things when it comes to those things that we can control?”
Mr. President, all your predecessors had runs of “bad luck.” All of them. None of them have whined about it or hidden behind it a fraction as often as you have.
A few of the catastrophes that occurred during Bush’s administration:
* Islamic terrorist attack on World Trade Center and Pentagon, 2,996 killed: September 11, 2001
* Indian Ocean tsunami, 230,210 killed: December 26, 2004
* Kashmir, Pakistan earthquake, 79,000 killed: October 8, 2005
* Hurricane Katrina, 1,836 killed, of all recorded Atlantic hurricanes, it was the sixth strongest overall: August 23 – 25, 2005
