Liberal Lies & Vitriol: MSNBC’s Ed Schultz Edits Perry’s “Big Black Cloud” Comment about Economy to Paint Him a Racist

Posted By on August 20, 2011

Fresh off his suspension in May after calling conservative commentator Laura Ingraham a “slut,” MSNBC’s resident leftist loon and misogynist Ed Schultz is at it again. This time, the leftist dough boy tried to make a phony racist connection between what presidential candidate Rick Perry said (deliberately edited) about our gloomy economy, take it out of context and make it sound like he made a racial slur against Barack Obama.

Those scummy progressives at MSNBC must have been really hootin’ it up after that contrived-editing hatchet job aired. We did it, fellas! Made Perry sound like a racist, ha ha!

Lying and manipulating the facts are perfectly acceptable to liberals if it promotes their cause. It’s all for the “greater statist good.”

Liberalism… it’s a disease.

From American Spectator, A Big Black Cloud:

Texas Governor Rick Perry spoke earlier this week of a “big black cloud that hangs over America.” He was clearly referring to the nation’s mammoth debt. But the ever-vigilant MSNBC host Ed Schultz scented racism in the remark, saying that that “big black cloud Perry is talking about is President Barack Obama.” Schultz later apologized for his bungled interpretation, admitting that he did not present the “full context” of Perry’s comment.

The blunder illustrates the extent to which Rick Perry’s entrance into the presidential race has addled the liberal media. To Schultz, Perry is a racist who “comes from the radical country club that loves to remind white America that President Obama is other: not like you.” To other members of the liberal chattering class, he is a “Manchurian candidate,” “secessionist,” and dangerous theocrat for having prayed in public recently.

From The Blaze, Ed Schultz and Team Use Deceptive Editing to Make Rick Perry Look Like a Racist:

It seems MSNBC will stop at nothing in defense of President Obama. This time, the creative team at “The Ed Show” edited a clip of Rick Perry to make it seem as though he made a racist remark about Barack Obama. Of course Ed Schultz didn’t skip a beat, latching on and editing a Perry clip mid-sentence in order to accuse the Texas governor of making a racist remark about America’s first black president.

In the clip, Perry states, “I’m a pro-business governor. I don’t make any apologies about it, and I will be a pro-business president. Getting America back to work is the most important issue that faces this country, being able to pay off $14.5 trillion or $16 trillion worth of debt. That big black cloud that hangs over America.”

So what did the “The Ed Show” host do? If you guessed he insinuated that the “black cloud” Perry spoke of is Obama, and it has something to do with his race, then you’d be correct.

From Jason Bradley, Big Government, That Didn’t Take Long: Left-Media Concocts Phony Racism Charge to Perry:

The media doesn’t have time for Perry to come right out and say he is a neo-confederate racist, so they took the liberty of speeding things along until that time comes, courtesy of Ed Shultz. (Larry O’Connor for Breitbart.tv)

Of course, they had to get creative with the editing of Perry’s speech. For MSNBC viewers, I’m sure it went over well. To the rest of us, it was criminal, especially considering that the video clip was so altered it resembled nothing of the original meaning and content of the governor’s speech.

If you look closely at that video, you’ll notice that the sound ends after Perry says, “That big black cloud that hangs over America,” but he’s still speaking.

Want to know what he said that Schultz and MSNBC intentionally cut out?

“That big black cloud that hangs over America, that debt that is so monstrous.”

Perry wasn’t suggesting, implying, or “inferring” that the “big black cloud that hangs over America” is President Obama.

He clearly – both before the phrase “big black cloud” and after – said he was speaking about America’s debt.

Yet Schultz and his staff edited Perry in mid-sentence to make it appear the Texas governor was making a racist remark about Obama.

In any other industry in this nation, such intentionally dishonest and misleading behavior would be met with the harshest of consequences. (News Busters)

Some glorious fisking of Schultz here from The Sundries Shack:

If you’re one of the unfortunate half dozen or so people who watch Ed Schultz’ television show on MS-NBC, you’ll know that he is about as in the bag for the Democratic Party as one can be without actually being in a large burlap sack with the DNC logo printed on it. Normally, he’s the garden-variety “in the bag” sort of pundit. You know the type — his show points inevitably map to the bullet points on the latest Democratic strategy memo; every single person to the right of your average 60s hippie protestor is a hood-wearing, baby eating, puppy-stomping fascist; and racism lurks behind even the most innocuous metaphor.

Once he was caught lying, Schultz made a weak-butt attempt at apologizing for his deplorable deception, for his slimy manipulation to deliberately deceive liberal viewers.

Well, not really.

John Seidl reported on the aired apology – Schultz Apologizes For Editing Perry Clip Out of Context…Sort of:

But as the apology continued it became clear that Schultz wasn’t going to apologize for suggesting that Perry is racist or for accusing Perry of race-baiting. Instead, he doubled down: “The full context of all these other statements show who he really is.”

Mediaite may have summed up the apology best: “While Schultz tried to downplay the apology by cushioning it in attack, detractors will be sure not to forget the incident, particularly considering that the apology, while swift, was likely far too vague and incomplete to absolve him.”

Even left-leaning Jon Stewart was disgusted by what Schultz did… reported at The Washington Post, ‘The Daily Show’ defends Rick Perry: ‘The real bigot here is Ed Schultz’:

…Schultz later apologized for his interpretation, but “The Daily Show” couldn’t resist pointing out how ludicrous it was. Jon Stewart started out the ribbing with a montage of clearly innocuous statements featuring names of colors before declaring: “The real bigot here is Ed Schultz.”

Stewart also noted that, to be fair, “debt” was only two words after “cloud” in Perry’s comments.

“That’s the thing about clouds,” Stewart joked, “some people see a racist dog whistle, while some people see George Washington wrestling a leprechaun.”
