Weiner’s Seat Could Go Conservative: NY’s 9th District Special Election Tomorrow, Not Looking Good for Dems… Pro-Israel GOP Candidate, Bob Turner, Talks with Radio Host Mark Levin (video)

Obama and PM Benjamin Netanyahu... the shameful treatment of Israel and the poor job performance of Pres. Obama could turn disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner's vacant District 9 seat over to Republicans

Tomorrow, New York’s 9th district in Brooklyn and Queens will be holding a special election that could have stunning historic results.

The congressional seat hasn’t had a Republican in it since 1923, way back when Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge were in the White House. Andrew Petersen was the last Republican to hold the seat.

Ready for that to change, New Yorkers?

Surprisingly, even former Mayor Ed Koch and Assemblyman Dov Hikind of Brooklyn, both of whom are Democrats, are publicly backing Republican Bob Turner because of their unhappiness with Pres. Barack Obama’s policies toward Israel. The president’s arrogant, hostile treatment of visiting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stunned and disgusted millions of Americans, as did his recent comments about Israel returning to its 1967 borders. When the outrage grew and Jewish donors stopped contributing to the Democrats (likely mostly the latter), the Vacationer in Chief did some major damage-control back pedaling. It was also discovered last month that the White House has cleansed many mentions of Israel from parts of its website.

This congressional seat in New York is competitive like it’s never been before — per polls, due to President Obama’s terrible job performance and audacious policies against Israel have prompted many Democrats to throw their support to Turner. The seat’s former occupant, Democrat Rep. Anthony Weiner who resigned in disgrace after his embarrassing, infamous Weinergate Twitter/email sex scandal, has also turned off many registered Democrats. A Democrat replacement is not turning out to be the slam-dunk guarantee of a Democrat victory that the Democrat party and the New York Times had thought it would be — a number of polls show Turner leading against Democrat, career politician David Weprin.

It’s foolhardy to assume anything yet on this seat, since so many negative ads against Turner have been bombarding New Yorkers with the war chest money of the DNC. So, it’s imperative that all conservatives, all moderates, all Republicans, and all voters in District 9, regardless of their political affiliation who are sickened by how the Obama administration is treating Israel, MUST turn out at the polls tomorrow.

From New York Post, Dems are O so afraid they’ll win:

Top Democrats have privately told GOP leaders that they want David Weprin defeated in tomorrow’s special congressional election for the Anthony Weiner seat in order to send “a wake-up call to President Obama,” a national Republican strategist contends.

Strategist John McLaughlin, a key figure in businessman Bob Turner’s hotly fought and closely watched battle with Queens Assemblyman Weprin, said he’s been startled at how many prominent Democrats say they want the Republicans to win the contest in the heavily Democratic Queens-Brooklyn district to put pressure on the White House.

“It’s really something. We have a lot of Democrats coming to us saying, ‘We hope Turner wins because if Obama doesn’t change his policies, we’re afraid we’re going to lose in 2012,’ ’’ McLaughlin told The Post.

“They’re supporting us as a way to send a wake-up call to President Obama and their party so that there are huge implications nationally from this election,’’ McLaughlin continued.

Former Mayor Ed Koch and Assemblyman Dov Hikind of Brooklyn, both Democrats, have publicly backed Republican Turner because of unhappiness with Obama’s policies toward Israel.

But many other Democrats have far broader concerns as they privately express the fear that the Obama administration’s record of high unemployment, nonexistent job growth and an uncertain business climate could lead to massive GOP victories in next year’s national and state elections.

Nervous city Democrats, meanwhile, have already begun pointing fingers at Rep. Joseph Crowley, the Queens Democratic chairman, as the one most responsible should Weprin, son of former Assembly Speaker Saul Weprin, lose.

“Crowley wanted a candidate who wouldn’t threaten to run against any of the other neighboring Congress members if, as everyone expects, the seat is abolished next year in congressional redistricting,’’ said a prominent Democratic activist.

From The Gothanist, Weiner’s Seat Is Looking Red: District 9 Special Election Is Tomorrow!:

The special election for New York’s ninth congressional district (a.k.a. Anthony Weiner’s old seat) is tomorrow and children? It is shaping up to be a doozy. Because of the district’s demographics—no Republican has ever been elected to the House in the largely Democratic stronghold that covers parts of Brooklyn and Queens—many thought this would be an easy victory for Democratic Assemblyman David Weprin. But with less than 24 hours till the polls open, Weprin is trailing Republican Bob Turner by six points in yet another poll. Luckily for Weprin, robo-Andrew Cuomo is ready to make some phone calls today!

Republican candidate Bob Turner discusses with conservative talk show host Mark Levin about the shameful treatment of Jews and Israel by this administration.

From Politico, The bottom line in NY-9:

There are always many explanations for electoral outcomes, many of them true at once. Democrat David Weprin could still pull it out in Anthony Weiner’s old district in Brooklyn and Queens, but with another poll out tonight showing Republican Bob Turner ahead in the heavily Democratic district, there’s clearly something unusual afoot.

If Turner wins, some in New York will cite Weprin’s weaknesses as a candidate; some in Washington will point to the high profile of the Israel issue. The new Public Policy Poll backs the role of the latter:

The issue of Israel does appear to be having a major impact on this race. A plurality of voters- 37%- said that Israel was ‘very important’ in determining their votes. Turner is winning those folks by an amazing 71-22 margin. With everyone who doesn’t say Israel is a very important issue for them Weprin actually leads 52-36. Turner is in fact winning the Jewish vote by a 56-39 margin, very unusual for a Republican candidate. This seems to be rooted in deep unhappiness with Obama on this issue- only 30% of voters overall approve of how he’s handling Israel to 54% who disapprove and with Jewish voters his approval on Israel is 22% with 68 of voters disapproving. That has a lot to do with why Turner’s in such a strong position.

[...]

If Turner wins on Tuesday it will be largely due to the incredible unpopularity of Barack Obama dragging his party down in the district. Obama won 55% there in 2008 but now has a staggeringly bad 31% approval rating, with 56% of voters disapproving of him. It’s a given that Republicans don’t like him but more shocking are his 16% approval rating with independents and the fact that he’s below 50% even with Democrats at 46% approving and 38% disapproving. Obama trails Mitt Romney 46-42 in a hypothetical match up in the district and leads Rick Perry only 44-43.

From Los Angeles Times, Republican could swipe Weiner’s former seat:

The sex scandal that rocked New York’s 9th Congressional District this year is tame compared with those that launched “The Jerry Springer Show” to daytime TV fame.

But when Democratic former Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned from his seat after he was caught sending sexually suggestive messages to women over the Internet, Republican Bob Turner, the Springer show creator, was waiting in the wings to fight for the post.

The district has not been represented by a Republican since 1923. But Weiner’s departure, coupled with voter discontent over President Obama’s handling of the economy, could change that Tuesday when the district votes in a special election to fill the seat.

“If Turner wins, it’s going to be perceived to be, and in some sense really will be, a referendum on Obama,” said Douglas Muzzio, professor of public affairs at Baruch College in New York.

As Obama struggles to gain footing on a wobbly economy, his party has begun a frantic effort to avoid the embarrassment of losing the seat.

David Weprin, the Democratic candidate and a state assemblyman, led Turner by six percentage points just last month, according to a poll by Siena Research Institute in Loudonville, N.Y. Siena released a new poll Friday that showed Turner with a six-point lead.

From National Journal:

…The race for former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s seat has given Democrats the biggest headache. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee late last week poured in $500,000 in a last-gasp attempt to hang onto a seat that has been in Democratic hands for decades. Before Weiner represented the Queens- and Brooklyn-based district, it was the home turf of now-Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
