Obama Quietly Sending 100 Combat Troops to Uganda to Hunt Rebels, Krauthammer Wants to Know Why Now? (video)

Krauthammer quote: “There’s a requirement here for intellectual honesty.”
During a panel discussion on Fox News yesterday, Pulitzer Prize–winning syndicated columnist and political columnist Charles Krauthammer critiqued and criticized Obama’s decision to deploy our troops to Uganda to hunt rebels in the Lord’s Resistance Army. Krauthammer, who said our involvement may be warranted for moral reasons, questioned the president’s nonsense that this sudden military action is for US security. He also wanted to know why this military action was announced quietly on a late Friday afternoon with no discussion when there was no escalating crisis.
No question that there is great need in Uganda, but the warring attacks, non-stop bloodshed, and horrific death and suffering in the country have been going on for two decades. Why is the president sending US troops there now? Why did he not prepare American citizens for our military’s sudden involvement?
Krauthammer pointed out that previous US military actions that were meant to be humanitarian efforts didn’t end as planned, like in Somalia. He said that in Uganda “these are petty, small tribal wars, huge casualties” and that for a “world super-power” to become involved and not be aware of what it can lead to can be a serious mistake.
Just how many wars are we now in? I’ve lost count. For a newly elected Commander in Chief who received a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for having done absolutely nothing but speaking a good game about ending US involvement in other countries’ wars, Obama seems to be everything and more that anti-military liberals lambasted and hated about George W. Bush.
Not a whole lotta peace goin’ on here.
As Michelle Malkin wrote yesterday in reference to the Occupy Wall Street vagrants, “All those Occupiers holding their ‘End the War!’ signs better march on over to the White House.”
Charles Krauthammer: US Troops to Uganda NOT a National Security Issue
From AFP, Uganda welcomes US troops to hunt rebel leaders:
KAMPALA — Uganda and its neighbours hailed Saturday a US offer to send combat troops to help battle a brutal regional rebel force whose leaders are international war-crimes fugitives.
“We welcome this gesture — it has been well overdue,” said Uganda’s acting foreign minister Henry Okello Oryem.
US President Barack Obama said Friday that 100 troops would help Uganda track down Lord’s Resistance Army rebel chief Joseph Kony and other senior LRA leaders, but warned they would not lead the fighting themselves.
“For 20 years, the government of Uganda has been pleading with our American and European friends to help in the LRA problem, because these are international terrorists,” Oryem said.
“We wanted our friends to help in providing technical support — such as intelligence — because they have the best.”
Fighting between the rebels and Ugandan forces in a 20-year war claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people and saw nearly two million displaced.
From Ace of Spades HQ, Depressed, Distracted President Orders US Combat Troops To Al Qaeda Hotbed of… Uganda:
Not an Al Qaeda hotbed, as it turns out. The rebel movement, the “Lord’s Resistance Army,” is classified as a terrorist organization, but they’re a Christian-cult militia terrorist organization which apparently attack the ruling government.
Am I saying terrorism is okay if you’re Christian? No. I’m saying they don’t attack us, and we seem to be fighting four or five wars at the moment.
The 100 troops will not just be in one country, either.
From Maggie’s Notebook, US Forces in Uganda: American Boots on the Ground In Uganda – Next Up Congo, South Sudan, Central African Republic:
One hundred “combat-equipped” U.S. Special Forces have boots on the ground in Uganda, or will very soon. The mission: kill or capture Joseph Kony, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) Leader and senior leaders of the LRA. While the ‘killing and capturing’ is going on, our troops will be there ONLY in an advisory capacity, and will be there for only for a “few months.” Just like we would be in Libya for only a few weeks. In May 2010 Congress passed legislation calling for aid for Northern Uganda. Over a year later, Obama, in a letter to Speaker John Boehner, said the Congressional action “crystallized” a U.S. commitment. Our Defense of Marriage Act is a lawful act, but apparently “crystallized” nothing in the mind of the President as he has announce the law will not be enforced. Same with our immigration laws. They haven’t “crystallized” in the mind of Obama or our Department of Justice. Just saying…
Posted a few weeks ago by The Lonely Conservative, Thousands of Ugandans Left Homeless, Children Killed By Climate Terrorists:
Al Gore must be so proud of the climate thugs who murdered children and forcibly removed thousands of Ugandans from their homes, all in the name of saving the planet.
Armed individuals acting on behalf of the “New Forests Company” trying to earn carbon credits – which are being routinely changed to cash through fraudulent schemes in many countries of the world – came to a village in Uganda, shot a couple of children, and flattened the village.
Code Pink — why aren’t your screaming banshees in front of Pres. Obama’s home today?

Code Pink protested against war and against our brave troops when Bush was in office, but where are they today now that Obama has ordered troops into Africa?
