I’ve been scoping them out on YouTube, and my favorite Christmas TV commercial this week is a new one that comes from the United Kingdom.
A heartwarming, brilliant gem… simply perfect.

Summary of the 2011 Christmas commercial from John Lewis:
Our advert follows one little boy who is impatiently counting down to Christmas. We see him tapping his fingers, gazing out of the window, even trying to cast a spell on a clock to make time go faster, but to no avail. The track ‘Please, Please, Please let me get what I want’, was originally recorded by the Smiths, and has been rerecorded by emerging artist Slow Moving Millie.
A John Lewis 2010 Christmas commercial, featuring Elton John’s “Your Song,” sung by Brit Award winner Ellie Goulding — this lovely little advert was filmed on location in Scotland, including various places in Edinburgh.

For those who don’t live in the UK and aren’t familiar with John Lewis department stores — not to be confused with liberal American politician/civil rights advocate Rep. John Lewis of Georgia:
John Lewis is a chain of upmarket department stores operating throughout Great Britain. The chain is owned by the John Lewis Partnership. The first John Lewis store was opened in 1864 in Oxford Street, London.
The chain is known for its policy of “Never Knowingly Undersold” which has been in use since 1925.
There are currently 36 stores throughout England, Scotland & Wales, including six new ‘At Home’ stores, with a further four opening in 2012. The store in Cardiff is the largest currently operated by the Partnership outside of London.
On 1 January 2008, John Lewis Oxford Street was awarded a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty the Queen as suppliers of haberdashery and household goods. John Lewis Reading is also the holder of a Royal Warrant from the Queen as suppliers of household and fancy goods, received in 2007.
