Elisabeth Hasselbeck vs. Bill Maher: She Lets Him Have It for Tasteless Lara Logan Rape Joke (video)

Left-wing zealot Bill Maher... always classy

Kudos to Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the sole conservative on the liberal-heavy “The View” (aka “The Harridan Show”) — she let leftist anger-monger Bill Maher have it yesterday. He had told a tasteless joke about her last year, saying that Hasselbeck should be sent to Egypt in exchange for CBS News correspondent Lara Logan, who’d been brutally, repeatedly raped by an Egyptian mob while covering that country’s riots.

A glimmer of light of humanity could be seen flickering in Maher’s eyes. Bill begged her forgiveness. He admitted that he’ll stoop to the lowest common denominator to get a laugh, and is usually a classless, pompous jerk who has troubling misogynist tendencies.

Dream on.

If you believed that, you may also believe that leftist director Michael Moore now weighs under 250 pounds, sold his mansions and limo, has donated his umpteen millions to the Occupy Wall Street movement, and has invited George W. Bush to dinner.

Bill made excuses for his tasteless joke by saying he has to be “out on the edge.” Wonder how many women’s groups or civic groups would have torn him to shreds had he used a woman of color or a woman from the Democrat party instead of Hasselbeck as his “edgy” punchline for rape?

Elisabeth, you’ve got moxy, girl!

Barbara Walters was far more uncomfortable here than when Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar stormed off the set last year when Bill O’Reilly said that a majority of Americans did not want a gigantic mosque built at Ground Zero in New York City. Or when Behar went on a multi-day rampage against Nevada’s conservative Senate hopeful Sharron Angle, saying Angle was an evil bitch who would burn in hell because she opposed illegal immigration.

Reported by Gossip Cop, Bill Maher and Elisabeth Hasselbeck Get Into Fight on The View:

On Tuesday, Bill Maher and Elisabeth Hasselbeck added to the show’s rich history of heated exchanges.

Hasselbeck was none too pleased with a joke Maher made at her expense last February, in which he suggested sending her to Egypt in exchange for CBS News correspondent Lara Logan, who’d been assaulted while covering that country’s democratic uprising.

“The View” co-host told Maher she didn’t find his joke to be funny, and he explained that it wasn’t meant as a personal attack on her.

But things got even more contentious from there.

“Would you say that again?” asked Hasselbeck.

Maher replied, “If I had a crystal ball and knew I was coming here and had to spend my whole segment talking about it, no.”

When Hasselbeck continued to question Maher about his joke, Barbara Walters interceded, saying, “We’re done, can we move on?”

After the group began to talk politics, Hasselbeck sarcastically said to Maher, “Wow, I actually feel smarter sitting next to you.”

To which he replied, “Really? I feel like I’m in high school sitting next to you.”

Bill Maher Vs. Elisabeth Hasselbeck on “The View” – 11/15/2011

From Wall Street Journal, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Bill Maher Spar Over Lara Logan Joke:

…Logan was brutally assaulted by a mob in Egypt. Hasselbeck said that on behalf of all women she was offended by the joke. It seemed pretty clear, though, that the joke personally bugged her. “You can talk about me or you can talk to me,” she told Maher. She added that she tries to teach her kids accountability.

What was interesting about the faceoff was the body language. Hasselbeck got close to Maher as she confronted him, patting his shoulder and putting an arm behind him. Maher, who makes a living pushing buttons, seemed somewhat chastened, and even said he might not have told the joke if he had known it would cause him so much grief on the show.

On Letterman, Maher said that he actually likes Hasselbeck.

“We have this relationship on TV where we play like we hate each other,” Maher said. He then joked about the married Hasselbeck: “It makes the sex hotter.”

Of course, Maher didn’t crack a joke like that to Hasselbeck’s face when he had a chance on “The View.”

Post-script…

Particularly gag-worthy was Maher’s glamorizing of the crime-laziness-and-filth-infested Occupy Wall Street movement, coupled with his deliberately ignorant and erroneous assessment of the tea party movement (he said it was about Obama’s birth certificate and him being a socialist, neglecting to mention any of the smaller government, adherence to the Constitution, and less taxation issues that were the catalysts for and are the foundation of the tea party’s mission). And how about the growing number of “rape-free zones” at the OWS tent encampments, Bill, or the pressure that’s being put on women who are sexual assault victims at the Occupy events to not report that they’ve been raped and to refuse to cooperate with police?

Maher may be able to find a nice “edgy” rape joke in there somewhere.

You might recall that Hasselbeck wouldn’t back down on the hate/conservative women rape piece that had been posted by Playboy in 2009, contacting women’s groups about their silence about the misogyny.
