Didn’t Indonesia love Barack Obama at one time?
That is, before they tore down last year that bronze statue of him as a boy that had been erected in a Jakarta park.
This “hardline” Islamic Indonesian protest against Pres. Obama’s visit occurred earlier this week. The word “tolak” seen on many of the protest signs is an Indonesian word that means “push away” or “reject.”
Obama Visit to Indonesia Protested by…’Hardline’ Islamists
Reported by The Blaze, Obama Visit to Indonesia Protested by….‘Hardline’ Islamists:
Thousands of members of Hizbut Tahrir were outside the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta Sunday, protesting the scheduled visit of President Barack Obama to the nation he lived in for several years as a child. Hizbut Tahrir is described by the Associated Press as a “hardline Muslim group.”
AFP reports that around 2,500 protesters shouted “Reject Obama” and “America is Terrorist” outside the US embassy while brandishing banners with slogans such as “Reject Obama, Reject Capitalism, Reject Imperialism”. AP reports that outside of Jakarta, another protest of about 800 people was held in Indonesia’s second-largest city of Surabaya.
President Obama is scheduled to attend the 18-nation East Asia Summit in Bali, where the administration has focused on the summit’s security agenda which includes halting the proliferation of nuclear weapons. AP reports that Hizbut Tahrir has accused the U.S. of having a hidden agenda to urge other countries to unite against China to guarantee U.S. domination in the South China Sea.
“We strongly oppose America and Obama coming to Indonesia,” the group’s spokesman Mujiyanto told AFP. “Obama is a murderer of our Muslim brothers in Palestine and Afghanistan, a thief of Indonesia’s natural resources, and an imperialist who seeks to take over the world and will do anything for US interests.”
