Presto-Chango Turkey on Google’s Homepage — Fun, Interactive Thanksgiving Doodle (video)

Posted By on November 22, 2011

Launched prior to Thanksgiving Day, Google has a unique interactive turkey doodle, drawn to resemble a child’s hand-turkey outline, on its homepage.

Presto, chango! Click on any of the turkey’s four feathers, on the bird’s feet or head, and they change in style, theme, and color — as shown below, here’s a football-playing turkey wearing sandals.

Click the turkey’s wing and all the wacky components — from pirate peg leg to roller skates to George Washington-style wig — go through a rapid-fast, lickety-split change. If you correctly match all the parts (there are a dozen “characters”), a puff of magic smoke and a white bunny or a treasure chest or some other surprise will appear, depending on which combination is unlocked.

Fun, silly stuff to waste time on as your holiday dinner cooks. The videos below give several demos of this “quick-change magician turkey.” The second video has had music added.

Google Thanksgiving Doodle Trick

Commentary from Washington Post:

The “Google Doodle” goes gobble-gobble with a turkey designed to look like a schoolchild’s elaborate hand-turkey project.

“Creating hand turkeys remains one of my favorite elementary school memories — glue on the table, colorful feathers stuck to your sleeve and glitter everywhere,” writes “Doodler” Willie Real on the Google Blog. ”This year, you have the option to skip the actual mess involved with making these classic Thanksgiving decorations and craft a unique turkey from the comfort of the Google homepage.”

To indulge your outer child, click on the bird’s crown and you get to choose from a dozen looks — from blond wig to wizard’s hat, from glasses to, fittingly, a football helmet that would do John Madden proud.

Click on each feather and you also get a dozen choices of wildly colorful plumage.

Click on the turkey feet and you can shod the bird a half-dozen different ways — from skates to cleats to peg-leg.

And click on the wing and you get a fast-paced flurry of mix-and-match looks.

From Huffington Post:

Google has used the doodle not only to mark the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, but also as an occasion to showcase its Google+ social networking service, which enjoys prime placement on a logo that’s seen by millions of Google users each day. Just under the turkey, Google has featured a red “G+ share” button that allows users to post a picture of the turkey on Google+, or prompts users to create an account on the social network if they haven’t already. Next to it, there is also a yellow “link” button that allows people to share a link to the turkey they’ve created.

Update: Here’s one of the “Easter eggs” to unlock. Combine/match the following components for the Disco Turkey: Brown Afro hairstyle, all teal/blue feathers, and roller skates. Once the final element is clicked, poof, some magic smoke, and a glitter disco ball will appear hanging from the letter “G” and a magenta headband and vest will be added to the turkey, as shown below.

Hi Vickie, glad to find your blog. I am a conservative too! I actually found it because I was trying to research the google turkey, lol, and that brought me to your site, of all things! Anyway, about the Turkey, I still keep thinking that there must be one more turkey for the white wig! Really lol, as a 57 year old woman who normally doesn’t waste my time on this stuff, and did catch on that there might be more to it early on. I found the football, pirate, and the astronaut by accicent, then went searching the web for the other clues. So, did them all, but I keep looking at the white wig, which isn’t used in the configurations, and can’t help thinking that we are all missing something??? Oh wait, maybe it is Santa Clause! I will go back and try red and white! I’ll let you know if that is it! LOL. In the meantime, I will favorite your blog and stay in touch to learn more about what is going on politically. I myself started a cooking blog, my fave thing to do, so this is great to see a fellow conservative woman giving what for to the screaming liberals. PS, I live in Florida, and am surrounded by liberals, so in the music business, I have been keeping a low profile, cause when you don’t fall in lock step with these lemmings, they grow teeth and turn on you like oscars! If you know what I mean. Well that is it, you don’t have to post this comment, cause it’s long, but just wanted to say hey, and I’ll be popping in from time to time. Love and Blessings, Norine Mungo
