Mele Kalikimaka: Obama’s 17-Day Posh Hawaiian Christmas Vacation… Wish You Were Here, America, but Hey, You Need to Get Skin in the Game (video)
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on December 8, 2011
Reminder: Pres. Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy stayed at the White House during Christmas, giving time off to the Secret Service and other aides to spend with their families. They did this out of consideration for their staff’s hard work all year, even though they would have liked to have spent the holidays not in cold DC, but at the Reagans’ ranch in California.
But for President Zero… it’s full entourage plus friends, Secret Service, and extended family, 4,000-plus miles of travel to Hawaii. This, despite Obama’s years living in and being elected to office in Chicago — he has yet to spend any time at Christmas there. I have no problem with Obama taking a vacation — what I do have a problem with are his attacks on struggling Americans and his smug hypocrisy about making sacrifices as he and his family live it up like royalty. And is HE paying for all this, or are the taxpayers?
Not one, but TWO new, fabulously irreverent videos below from Granny Jan & Jihad Kitty — well-deserved mocking of Barack Obama’s perception of “hard work” and his upcoming 17-day vacation in a posh Hawaiian mansion with a private lagoon that costs around $4,000 a day (he usually rents three mansions while there, so I’m guessing that would be $12,000 per day).
Gettin’ some skin in the game, Obama-style.
Just like last year. And the year before that.
It’s darned hard being president… hand me that beach towel and mai tai, OK?
17 Days of Fun, Fun, Fun ~ The Obama Hawaii Vacation
Barack Obama ~ Workin’ Hard for the Folks
Reported at Kansas City Star:
Ah, Christmas traditions: colored lights, mistletoe and criticisms of a president’s vacation plans.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is hammering President Barack Obama for playing golf and planning his usual family Christmas in Hawaii. Obama should spend more time fixing the economy, says Romney, who is using the issue to raise money.
For some Democrats and Republicans, it’s a tired tactic. Every president spends time away from Washington and engages in weekend recreation or relaxation, they note. Former aides to Obama’s predecessor, Republican George W. Bush, say all presidents have a right to such pastimes.
Bush spent 490 days as president at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, and 487 days at Camp David – one-third of his eight-year presidency, according to record-keeper Mark Knoller of CBS News. Like Obama and other presidents, Bush noted that he worked during much of the time he spent outside the White House.
Quick question — of those 490 cited days spent working in Crawford and 487 days cited working at Camp David (that means Bush was away from Washington DC for 977 days out of an approximate 2,920 days), are weekends being included in the mix? Those numbers seem extremely fishy…
Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, said in an Iowa telephone conference call this week that in some respects, Obama’s “idea of a ‘hands-on’ approach to the economy is getting a grip on his golf club.”
“He’s going off for 17 days in Hawaii. He’ll be playing a lot of golf,” Romney said.
Romney used similar language in a new fundraising letter that asks for $18 – one for each hole on a golf course.
GW Bush’s ranch was set up like a smaller version of the White House, much like Lyndon B. Johnson did when he was out of Washington. As I wrote in a previous post, Bush worked through Christmas while at his ranch home in Crawford, Texas, or while at George Senior’s home in Maine. While away from the White House, Bush received daily national security briefings, signed documents, and held teleconferences. He NEVER rented a luxury mansion, but liberals still attacked him like schoolyard bullies for taking any time off at all or for leaving Washington, DC.
What are liberals saying about Obama’s frequent lavish trips, obsessive reelection campaigning that he claims is not campaigning, and this latest 17-day vacation to Hawaii, holed up in a 7,000-square-foot mansion with a gorgeous ocean view? Hmm… silence. Or, weird, insane gushing.
If Bush’s time at the ranch or Camp David is counted not as work, but as “vacation” even though he conducted a tremendous amount of presidential business (not making flowery speeches to woo wealthy donors), then how many days are being tallied for Obama’s two Magical Misery Bus Tours? His mini-vacations with Michelle when he leaves around 9 or 10 am on a Friday? His time spent at Camp David? His historic record-breaking number of rounds of golf? His record-breaking travel for his reelection fundraising, or DNC fundraising, or Democrat congressional or governorship fundraising? Not a week has gone by that I can recall that Obama didn’t find some lame reason to jump on Air Force One and fly across the country.
Or across the ocean.
While Americans still struggle to hang on to their homes, put food on the table, and keep on the electricity.
Mele Kalikimaka, America.
