Moron: Minnesota Rep. Ellison Goes on 1-Day “Hunger Strike” to Support Occupy Wall Street

Posted By on December 17, 2011

Democrat Rep. Keith Ellison went on a hunger strike this week to show his support for Occupy Wall Street... a 1-day hunger strike

Democrat Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota is the first Muslim to be elected to the United States Congress — he was originally born and raised a Roman Catholic before converting to Islam while he was attending Wayne State University in Detroit. He is also the first African American elected to the House of Representatives from Minnesota.

And to the best of my knowledge, Ellison is the first congressman to go on a laughable, publicity-driven 1-day hunger strike in support of Occupy Wall Street.

As Bugs Bunny would say, “What a maroon!”

H/t to Sister Toldjah, via Washington Examiner:

…Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., embarked on a 24-hour hunger strike in solidarity with four Occupy DC protesters who have gone without food since Dec. 8 to advocate for D.C. voting rights.

Ellison, the first Muslim to serve in the House, met with the hunger strikers Thursday and pledged to read their declaration – which calls for full voting rights for District residents as well as legislative and budget autonomy – on the floor of the House of Representatives to enter it into the congressional record.

What a dope.  Who the heck puts a time frame on a hunger strike? Aren’t they supposed to be indefinite until your “demands” have been met/”point” made?  Bryan Preston is on the same page:

One day is not a hunger strike. It’s a diet. Maybe a fast. Not a hunger strike, in which one commits slow suicide to make a political point.

Rep. Ellison may identify with OWS because he’s one of the poorest members of Congress — Minnesota Public Radio reported this in 2009:

The Center for Responsive Politics analyzed the financial disclosure forms for all of the members of Congress and ranked them by wealth. The analysis found that DFL Rep. Keith Ellison is ranked 514th of the 538 members of Congress in terms of wealth. The report says his average net worth -$-21,497. The maximum net worth is $5,999. The minimum net worth is $-48,993.

Negative $48,993? Talk about grotesquely, ignorantly overextending oneself.

Ellison needs to get some investment pointers from Queen Nancy Pelosi. Or protest against her for being one of the loathsome 1% in Congress. Whichever.
