This is what Google’s homepage looks like today, Christmas Eve, when you first enter the site:

Click each of the six glowing, colored squares beneath the Google logo, and it changes to this animated musical art with a dark background and holiday icons, which, after all the buttons are pushed, launches into a short rendition of “Jingle Bells”:

From IBN Live, Happy holidays Google doodle plays jingle bells for Christmas:

It’s time for Christmas and Google has come up with an interactive doodle on the eve of Christmas, playing the celebration tune of ‘jingle Bells’. Making the ‘Happy Holidays’ Google doodle musical and interactive, Google wishes us Merry Christmas, bringing us in a festive mood.

The happy holidays doodle has six glowing buttons. Each button plays a sound from the musical notes of ‘jingle bells’, when we click on it. Once we click on all the six buttons, it shows a button with a musical note. When we click on this musical note button, it plays ‘jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way’.

This year’s Google happy holidays doodle is made up of lit up holiday symbols – snowflake, Santa Claus, bell, snowman, candle and a gift box – on a dark background, symbolising the night sky. The Google logo appears as a faint outline behind the holiday icons.

Here’s a demo of the musical Google Christmas doodle:

But wait — there’s more!

Type “let it snow” in the search field, and animated snow will fall across your computer monitor.

Reported by Lansing State Journal, Let it snow! Google rolls out new search engine tricks:

Let it snow?

Just in time for the holidays, Google has rolled out the latest in a string of neat tricks that you can play with the search engine.

For those who haven’t tried it yet, pull Google up on your browser and type in the words “let it snow.” Then enjoy a snow flurry right on your computer screen.

To keep the wintery fun going, Google also added a frosty element to the experience: As the snow continues to fall, your computer screen will fog up.

Click the “defrost” button to clear it, or use a mouse to draw hearts, or initials or whatever else you want in the fog.

You can click defrost at any time to start over again.
