Another Obama Failure Joins Solyndra: Las Vegas Solar Panel Company Amonix, Inc. Laying off Hundreds of Workers, Received $5.9 Million from Government

Yet another Team Obama-endorsed/funded company is hitting rock bottom.

Hot on the heels of taxpayer-funded, electric car battery manufacturer Ener1 filing for bankruptcy a few days ago, Evergreen Energy crashing and burning, and bankrupted Solyndra being investigated by Congress, now Amonix, Inc., a solar panel company in Las Vegas, has suddenly laid off two-thirds of its work force to avoid going bankrupt.

Amonix received $5.9 million from Team Obama’s stimulus/porkulus bill. All of these defunct green-energy companies have received millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars.

If Barack Obama was coaching an NFL team with this consistent losing record, he would have been booted from the locker room to the curb by now.

The Obama Tiki Curse strikes again…

From Global Warming.org, Drip, Drip, Drip: Yet Another Green Energy Stimulus Recipient Hits the Skids (the third this week!):

Earlier this week, Stimulus beneficiary Evergreen Energy bit the dust. Then, Ener1, a manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles and recipient of Stimulus largesse, filed for bankruptcy. And today, the Las Vegas Sun reports that Amonix, Inc., a manufacturer of solar panels that received $5.9 million from the Porkulus, will cut two-thirds of its workforce, about 200 employees, only seven months after opening a factory in Nevada.

From Investors.com, Ener1 Bankruptcy Is Latest Obama Green Jobs Flop:

President Obama’s green jobs effort has suffered two more black eyes, as one federally backed company filed for bankruptcy and another laid off two-thirds of its workforce.

Ener1, which got a $118 million federal matching grant to develop electric car batteries, filed for Chapter 11 on Thursday. The Indiana-based company has been in dire condition, having been delisted from Nasdaq last November.

Meanwhile, solar panel maker Amonix laid off 200 people on Wednesday. It had received a $6 million tax credit in 2009 to build its Las Vegas facility.

They are the latest embarrassments in the White House’s efforts to boost the green technology industry. Loan recipients have gone bankrupt, green jobs numbers have stalled and sales of electric cars have been sluggish.

Much like defunct Solyndra, Ener1 was once a White House darling. Vice President Joe Biden toured Ener1′s Indiana facility last year. The administration put it as No. 67 on its list of “100 Recovery Act projects that are changing America.”

And look where it is now, Joe.

From 8 News Now, NLV Solar Panel Plant Lays Off 200 Workers:

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — As President Barack Obama’s message of clean energy still resonates in the Las Vegas valley, a solar plant in North Las Vegas is laying off several hundred workers.

The employees of an Amonix contractor say they just got the word on Monday and pink slips Tuesday.

The contractor says they’re re-tooling to produce new technology, and that is the reason for the layoff. Amonix says it’s cycling out its old systems and doesn’t need as many employees. They went from about 300 workers down to 100.

Just seven months ago, Governor Brian Sandoval, Representative Shelley Berkley and North Las Vegas Mayor Shari Buck talked about the hundreds of clean energy jobs that would boost the economy.

Some employees say the announcement came out of nowhere.

“(I’m) praying that we get called back to work,” said laid off worker Louis Cattuah. “(I) filed for unemployment — take whatever that is and just keep praying and look forward.”
