Chicken Wing Cupcakes Newest Food Fad for Super Bowl Munching (video)
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on February 5, 2012
I’ll be honest… as weird as this new food fad sounds, I’d be willing to try this newest food craze for Super Bowl munching that was launched by a New York bakery: the Chicken Wing Cupcake.
Selling at $3.50 each (not too expensive by New York’s standards), and for the sheer novelty of it, why not? These cupcakes have been covered by much of the national media and as a result, the phone has been ringing off the hook at Coccadotts Cake Shop to order them.
Super Bowl Sunday is the second-biggest food consumption day in America, second only to Thanksgiving.

From USA Today, Latest Super Bowl party treat: chicken wing cupcakes?:
Everything about the Super Bowl is big, including the parties millions of Americans will attend Sunday. But here’s a new party treat that will make you the talk of your Super Bowl XLVI bash: Chicken Wing Cupcakes.
Yes, a New York state bakery named Coccadotts Cake Shop is selling a combination of cornbread and bleu cheese frosting — with a big ol’ chicken wing on top. Said Rachel Coca-Dott, owner of the bakery in Colonie near Albany:
I was thinking about the Super Bowl. What goes with the Super Bowl but chicken wings? And I said, ‘Oh, a chicken wing cupcake, Rachel?’ And I tried five or six recipes and the last recipe when I was ready to call it quits I think we kinda nailed it on it.
Something about this possibly vomit-inducing snack has struck a chord with the national media. ABC’s Good Morning America did a piece on them Friday morning. The bakery’s taking orders for the concoction on its Facebook page.

From ABC News, Chicken Wing Cupcakes: Latest Super Bowl Gluttony:
Planning a Super Bowl party this weekend but finding that, between desserts and appetizers, you have too many items on your party menu?
A New York bakery has the solution for you: throw the dessert and the appetizer into one special treat for your fellow football fanatics.
It’s the Chicken Wing Cupcake, and it’s become a customer favorite at the Coccadotts Cake Shop in upstate New York, just outside Albany.
The cupcake itself is made of cornbread then topped with bleu cheese frosting and accented by an actual chicken wing on top.
The flavor boundary-bending concoction is the brainchild of the bakery’s owner, Rachel Coca-Dott, who opened the store five years ago.
“I was thinking I didn’t want to go with our typical chocolate or vanilla cupcake,” she told ABCNews.com today. “I was thinking what’s the biggest favorite at our house for the Super Bowl, and the chicken wing came to mind.”
“I tried like five different attempts to get the cupcake right and was pretty ready to throw in the flag at that time, but the last attempt was a success,” she said. “It was just a little tweak of the recipe.”
Americans are expected to consume 1.25 billion wings Super Bowl weekend, or four for every man, woman and child in the U.S., according to the Wall Street Journal, proving Coca-Dott was on to something indeed.
