Horrified students being evacuated from their Chardon, Ohio high school after a gunman opened fire, killing one student and wounding four others
Every parent’s, teacher’s, school administrator’s, and police officer’s nightmare: a tragic high school school shooting today in Chardon, Ohio has left at least one student dead and four others injured. Surviving students who were shot were airlifted to the hospital. Two of the male victims are listed in critical condition.
Students who witnessed the shooting said that the gunman, who has given himself up to police and is in custody, is a student at the high school. School was in session during the shooting.
Details on this shocking shooting and the motive for it are still forthcoming. One detail that has been released is that a school assistant football coach was able to chase the shooter out of the building, no doubt preventing many more injuries and deaths. The suspect fled on foot, and was taken into custody near his car, which was parked a half-mile from the suburban Cleveland school, according to the FBI. Because he is a juvenile and has not yet been charged, the shooter’s name hasn’t been released to the media.
Prayers to all the families and members of the small community who have had their lives turned upside-down today, and especially to the parents of the child who was murdered in cold blood at school, where it is suppose to be safe. My heart breaks for you — God bless you during this horrible time.
In a city that is best known for its maple syrup industry, Chardon will now be tragically linked to other American school shootings, such as the deadly massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999.
