Fourth of July Second Amendment Round-up, 2013 Edition: Gun Rights & Gun Control in America Graphics & Cartoons
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on July 4, 2013
Happy 237th birthday, America!
As was emphasized in last year’s Fourth of July graphics round-up, today can’t be an actual Independence Day, the Fourth of July, without revisiting our nation’s roots and the Second Amendment of the US Constitution. This amendment was determined by our founding fathers to be such an imperative for the citizens of our fledgling nation that it is second only to those freedoms detailed in the Bill of Rights’ First Amendment:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
There are those who wish to re-interpret the Second Amendment, to dilute or remove the provisions of the amendment.
Early American settlers considered the right to arms and/or the right to bear arms and/or state militias as important for one or more of these purposes:
* deterring tyrannical government;
* repelling invasion;
* suppressing insurrection;
* facilitating a natural right of self-defense;
* participating in law enforcement;
* enabling the people to organize a militia system.
Here’s this Independence Day’s Second Amendment/gun rights round-up of photos, memes, and political cartoons:
